Watching Xenosaga basically fade from existence is such as sad thing. This series made a big splash when it released -- everyone knew the game with the winged blue haired robot girl, and it turned out the story and gameplay were great for the time, too. The 3rd game when it came out was beautiful on all fronts, and incredibly ambitious! Nowadays, it almost feels like the series never existed, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a game go this hard with its themes. But I'm glad Takahashi is still around and I'm looking forward to Xenoblade 3.
Xenogears is by far the most amazing story i have ever witnessed in any platform and it is a shame that the project that would've turned it into 6 games (xenogears being episode 5) never came to fruition.

Xenosaga 3 for me was something special. The trilogy was wrapped up beautifully. The music, each character arc and story were exceptional. The deeper you get into the plot the more rewarding it is. Truly ambitious but delivered in spades.
Same. It’s the one that had the strongest impact on me. Left me literally speechless at the end, staring at the screen in silence. Torna was a close second.
The funny thing with X is, that if you just play through the story, it's your least favourite Xenoblade. If you play all the side content, it's your favourite. The lore and world building are way deeper than all the others. There's a lot of important details you have to seek out, and that's what makes it amazing.
X is different, story ends on a cliffhanger though. Also the menus and interface were at times hard to see. But yeah, it has possibly better exploration than any game I have ever played.
@@hepwo91222 And it's still unsurpassed. I personally never had a problem with the UI, and I don't have a huge tv or anything. I think it's biggest problem is the story pacing. In the first chapters almost nothing is revealed, and in the end you get bombarded. It's still one of my favourite premises in any game, though. Btw I played it a bit later, and hearing people talk I expected a much worse cliffhanger. But the main conflict of the game got resolves, the end just set up a new one for the next game. As someone who's played trails, this was nothing :D
no it´s not. I did everything, put more than 250 hours into it, all trophies, best skell weapons, holo figures, complete monster list but it´s not enough to be my favourite. It is way better than Xenoblade 2 (for me a lot of jrpgs are better than that trash) but lacking in story and characters. World and traveling was awesome. Combat was really unbalanced thanks to the Skells and very very grindy. The online features also were very unnecessary.
I'm playing it right now and omg, I feel like I missed so much on my first playthrough which took me 80 hours already. I'm at 100+ now and I'm shook by all the things to unlock thrrough side quests
Man though I can't imagine Xenogears getting remade to the level of FF7R though. Xenogears is freaking huge! It has perhaps the most dense story I have ever played in a video game; in a good way too. It has some convoluted aspects but the characters deliver so hard and so does the narrative.

Saga would be more complicated, as it was being developed as a, well, saga from the get-go, and thus they'd need to make brand new games besides remaking the original 3, but gears would be a bit easier, as they only need to flesh out the parts they had to skim through in the original plus add more dungeons. Tho reworking the story to make the side characters more relevant outside of their personal arcs would be nice, if you know you know
If Xenogears had been given the time and budget it deserved to see it made to its full potential, it probably would have been the greatest video game of all time. I'd love nothing more than to see it remade.
Iirc it had the time and budget but the team wasn't expirenced enough when it comes to planning according to the lead developer, when they worked on xenoblade chronicles Nintendo gave them a expirenced project planer and they pretty much made exactly the product they wanted to create and by now they gathered the experience they need.

So in my first playthrough of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I didn't get KOS-MOS until right before I beat the final boss but the second playthrough I got KOS-MOS before I even got Morag
Scale in PS1 games also were not hindered by graphical advances like games are today so Playstation 1 games just had alot more volume and scope to them in terms of their writing, story and worlds. Xenoblade looks huge from the outset but if you think about it, it only has like 5 major city hubs, compared to most PS1 rpgs which had massive worlds spanning multiple continents and like 30 or even some times 40 different towns and NPC hubs. The pS1 was truly unrivaled and i think was the peak of rpgs in my opinion. It allowed developers to really create an "epic" with no restrictions or limitations.
While I haven't played all of them, actually glad to see that Xenosaga 2 is in last place here. Ugh... that combat system, and the side quests were a series of chores
Who remembers playing Xenosaga when it first came out and having to wait forever for the squeal to drop after the end of the first game? That was so brutal for me.
I mind getting Xeonsaga 2 and being obsessed with the game as a kid. I waited years and years to find the prequel or the eventual sequel only to find that Scotland only got 2. To this day I’m still a tad bitter about it. 😅🙃

All I will say is this...I'm a fully grown man who has been playing video games for 3+ decades, and I'm not ashamed to say that at the end of Xenosaga 3, I may have gotten a tad emotional. For me, that's a testament to the story and characters. Even with the problems of Xenosaga 2, that series is still among my all tike favorites, probably only behind Chrono Trigger(which is my favorite game of all time). Shion saying goodbye to KOS-MOS for the final time will get me every time. Shame those games(and Xenosaga) never got the respect they deserve.

I grew up with the Xenosaga series and love Kos-mos. I’m currently trying watch Xenogears gameplay. I definitely wanna play Xenoblade Chronicles in the future but man, that’s a really long game lol
@@pedrobeckup456 I agree. I picked up XC3 and you know what, I friggen love that game. I won’t download the final DLC until I play 1 and 2 so I know the other characters role in the grand scheme of the storyline.
It's very hard for me to really pick favorites over each other because I love all three franchises for other things. So if I had to rank them, I'd put one for each franchise in the top three. And for me personally this top three would include Xenosaga Episode III, Xenogears and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Of course with the previously set rule, Xenogears wins this spot by default because it's the only "gears", but it also deserves to be in the top 3 easily. Next to Xenosaga it has the deepest story but without even the need of three games building up the world. And on top of that the music and characters are awesome. It is one of these golden-age JRPGs that everyone has to play and an absolute classic. As said in the video, Xenosaga Episode III just excels the other Xenosagas at everything. And on top of that it has the best JRPG cast I've ever seen. I just love these characters. In my opinion they are even above Xenogear's cast, which was already incredible. The only other JRPG that I see rival Xenosaga's cast is the one of the first Nier, but for very different reasons. Episode III also manages a miracle in how it does the impossible and gives this epic trilogy a not only worthy but great ending. It was the ultimate swansong to the series ans the PS2 after Monolith got bought by Nintendo and is the graphically most impressive PS2 game of all. It's one of my favorite games of all time. Picking Xenoblade 2 over 1 may be a bit controversial. And the reasons are very personal. At first the emphasis on the huge open world and exploration was a big let down for me, along with the switch of platforms. Xenoblade 2 was much more a turn back to what I loved about the Xeno-series. And I know graphics aren't everything and Story is more important, but a big appeal of Xenosaga was always how good the character models looked and the first Xenoblade was such a step back from what was achieved on PS2 already. With Xenoblade 2, character models finally looked just as good as on PS2 again, but the whole exploration part and all the stuff that Xenoblade does so good comes on top of it. (Good thing that the Definite Edition solves most of the problems I had with the first Xenoblade. I'm still currently playing that ^^) And so, because I love Xeno games so much for their deep character-driven stories, I pick those three games.
Really feel like I need to give Xenosaga 3 another try. I hated it when it first came out, the lengthy cutscenes within the first few hours made me drop it. But *everyone* else ranks it higher than 1 and 2 - there's gotta be a reason for that.
Completely disagree with saying the Xenogears cast is better than the Xenosaga cast. I felt the saga cast was easily the best in all of videogames and a huge step up from gears. I personally like the story of saga better also but that's atleast a bit closer to me. My order would honestly be a lot different from this personally but it was a good watch.
@@Norel_Nieves proof you guys aren't fans. Shion and Allen are the blood line which leans to Citan. There is a purposeful connection to all Saga characters to gears in the official works
though I love the story and lore of Xenogears are unmatched, characters are one thing where I wouldnt give it such praise. Except the villains. Graph, Id, Miang and Krellian ar all top tier.
Fellow Xenogears lover here. My ranking of personal enjoyment is: Xenogears > Episode 1 > Episode 3 > XC1 > Episode 2 > XC2 > XCX. I love all the games however.
In the unlikely event that Xenogears ever gets a remake, I hope they don't move to a real-time battle system like in the FF7 remake, as well as it was done, I think it would take away from the fun of Xenogears combo-based combat.

It'll age like milk. The chronicle games have new combat system flavors and so they gain extra appeal. But in the years to come the standard system will change and that system too will feel dated, slow and the world poor. Just as the Saga and Gears games were fated to. But the stories of chronicles are no where near the league of the saga or gear games. And that is forever.
I love the xenoblade chronicles games and honestly my only issue is my god I wish they were also on PC to really push those graphics to what they deserve to be
So i've only played XenoGears and XenoSaga1, I have to say Xenogears is one of my all time favorite game's period! Right there with Legend of Dragoon and FF7. I've always considered picking up Xenoblade and may end up doing so soon. None the less i can say for sure if they ever rereleased Xenogears with updated graphics....i'd likely buy it twice.
Finally playing through xeno 2 and I feel like the story telling was really interesting even if it wasn't following all the main characters. I really liked what it did honestly. Like the game is obviously flawed and is both as bad and not nearly as bad as people made me believe.
I was lucky enough to get Xenogears when it first came out. Even with all of its flaws, it was still one of my favorite games growing up and kind of spoiled me for story depth and complexity. So many other games just felt… lesser after I experienced the intricate relationships, deep philosophical and religious themes, and fun, but not over complicated combat. You have bad guys who all have their own problems and goals, character arcs, and distinctive personalities. The hero has a good reason to refuse the call to action (because of all the trauma he went through). The romance is actually meaningful and well developed-not just the product of “well, you have two attractive people standing next to each other; let’s have them hook up at the end!” It’s far from perfect, but it’s still a great game well worth your time if you like giant robots, deep plots that go well beyond a simple surface analysis, and being allowed to turn your party into DBZ fighters who leap into the air and ki blast foes to death.
I have yet to play Xenoblade 2, and Xenoblade X but here's mine: 5. Xenosaga Episode II - I like the game overall and don't remember any of the issues with the combat or art style that others have pointed out. Mostly I wish the game wasn't so myopic in telling Jr's story; in the context of the whole series it feels really weird. The music also had some very strange tracks that I don't personally enjoy going back to much though they are interesting and adventurous. 4. Xenosaga Episode I - Overall a really solid journey, really sets the stage for an epic story in a way that keeps the intrigue and hooked me in. The music that was here was pretty good, but not Mitsuda's best IMO. Walking through the 'dungeon' areas to the sounds of footsteps was...a curious choice. 3. Xenoblade Chronicles - Amazing experience with a fascinating story but what kept me hooked for sure was the joy of exploring the different parts of the world, the fun and vibrant cast, and the top top tier OST. The battle system was an even better version of FF XII's (a game I also really like) MMO/Single-player RPG hybrid. A special game that I am glad people now respect and recognize. 2. Xenosaga Episode III - From the moment I heard the final boss music of this game before I even played Episode I I knew it would be epic and worth every bit. And it was. A steep curve to start to reboot your sense of the world, it's story, and the terminology, but once you're in it shines with a brilliant OST, the best battle system in the series (esp the E.S. battles), and a true feeling of satisfaction at it's conclusion. Brilliant. 1. Xenogears - You hit the nail on the head in your take. Despite it's 2nd disc shortcomings the experience looms so large in it's story and scope of it's characters journeys that it overcomes that jarring shift between discs. It's an experience I'll remember forever and has for me the single greatest OST of any game I have ever played. I go back to it regularly to relive the sensation of that games world. They can remake it or not, it won't matter to me as I'll always have the original gem.
Dude, why did you have to use such spoiler-filled footage for XC1? You could've easily just used footage up until Eryth Sea but apparently you had to include scenes with Seven.
Good list, but recently replaying xenogears just puts it a step below how I remembered it. 3/4 of an exceptional cast, traded for a perfect story. I also believe the combat is worse than that of xenosaga 3 or xenoblade 2, but I'm fairly certain that wasn't a larger focus in the listing. Finally, disc 2 is rather iconic for how unfortunately skimmed over it was, almost completely due to the game's deadlines. The takeaway: xenogears' rushed development and lack of refinement in the second disc unfortunately means it's not as polished as most of the other titles... therefore, it could be moved lower than the likes of xenoblade 1 and 2. (I still absolutely adore it, and regard it as a masterpiece, like all of the xeno games)
Yeah, I agree, love Xenogears, but it's unfinished, not reaching its full potential. Wish there was a finished version in a remake. Keep the turn based combat, graphics, music, everything, just expand on that visual novel in the last disc where it lacks much gameplay and I would be thrilled.
im curently working on the series backwords, iv finished Xenoblade Chronicles X 1 and 2 and curently playing torna, then im gone play saga that iv never played befor then tackle xenogears agen, got stuck in it back in the day and never finished it so im looking forword to it, but man the games are black holes when it comes to time :) love it
Xenosaga III. So much fun, gets better and better more you get into it. Ties the whole series together beautifully. One of the very best. Sad you have to have a ps2 to play it. I miss you Rubedo.

Xenogears is the only title that we can battle in mechs. Understand xenogears is square enix property thats why monolith can't develop a battle system with mechs ? With that major element mission no future title can ever surpass xenogears.

Thanks Erick. Torna could have easily been treated separately but my main considerations were that Xenoblade 2 was a complete game without it, and Torna was a much smaller experience on terms of length and scope. If it was separate, I would probably rank it around the XS1 mark.
I hope xenogears have a remake or at least a remastered but with additional story or remake the part which was the disc 2 that was being rushed. Such a shame
This is far and away my favorite series! Definitely agree with Xenogears being #1, but am always surprised when Xenoblade is ranked ahead of Xenosaga. I've only completed an estimated 80% of XB1, but it's loaded with open world elements and bland sidequests, with a story that doesn't seem as grounded as Gears/Saga. But the commercial results seem to speak to my preference being in the minority (or Blade's marketing being way better, at least.) I still feel their market analysis is mistaken and remasters would make a ton with today's level of recognition. Looking forward to the day when I can properly complete the Xenoblades and form a complete opinion. I wish there was a way to import my saves from the Wii version to the Switch HD.^^
I'm really glad knowing that I'm not the only one who thinks xenogears story is the best jrpg story of all time. I mean even in the anime you cant find any story as deep and as brilliant like this one.
I’ve only played xenoblade 1, xenoblade 2, xenogears, and a little bit of Xenosaga 1 and xenoblade x. Xenoblade 1 is my favorite game of all time, and xenoblade 2 and xenogears are also really good. I’m not sure how I feel about Xenosaga 1 and xenoblade X, but from what I’ve played, I don’t like them as much as the others
The highs of Xenogears are some of the highest points in gaming history. It definitely has some flaws but the things it does well are unmatched. XC1 might be an overall better product when weighing pros and cons but it doesn't hit the heights that Gears did. Tough to say what matters more.

i just started playing xenoblade chronicles 3D again, going to try and beat it this time. its actually quite nice and sucks me in on the 3ds and the 3d effect is really nice i think. it adds depth to the environment and all the players health bars and the damage numbers are nice in 3d and the test boxes in 3d are nice too. you really get used to the somewhat small screen of the xl and still get the huge epic scope if you play in a room that is not super bright and wear headphones. the graphics are actually quite detailed on things if u move in close on them and move the camera, i was surprised at the little effects and detail.
Xenogears even after about 20 years since I played the first time still is my favorite RPG, the only rpgs that comes close for me(out of all that I have played) is Suikoden 2 and FFIX. I really want to try Chrono Cross, I'm having a felling that it'll join this three masterpieces

@Shaman Xeed I played for the first time a few months ago, the game definitely is really good (only did the B ending) but what turns me off is the english dub, I know the PSP version has a undub patch, but that was a port of the inferior japanese release of the PSX game, and as far as I know the image is stretched which can affect the use of CRT shaders (on retroarch that is)
@@rudidellama3718I played Chrono Trigger before Xenoblade 1 but I ended dropping it and didn't beat. So I beat Xenoblade 1 and became an RPG fan, then I finally beat Chrono Trigger. But yes, it is not as mind-blowing after that, it depends on the experience of each one with the games, who played in the 90s might like it even more
@@pedrobeckup456 Its old comment of mine, I did end up replaying Trigger and actually playing Cross later, I'll say that Trigger really hold up very well, feel like a timeless game in a way, but not in my personal best (most comes down to taste I suppose) Funny that you said Xenoblade 1, I tried years ago the Wii version and dropped half way through, last year I tried the Remake and enjoyed quite a bit, didnt fall in love or anything, I actually enjoyed alot more X, that game was something else even if the story is alright
X is my personal favorite, but honestly all the games are the best and X being at the top is mostly due to it being my first Xeno game. I sadly never got to play gears and saga myself, and was stuck watching the cutscenes instead, but the stories of both of those are fantastic.
If you own lunar complete edition on ps1 and have the making of lunar disc. There was a trick to hear xenogears awesome music. Play the making of lunar disc for like a second then open your play station while the disc is spinning. Take it out and replace it with the xenogears disc. It'll now play music and scenes from xenogears without loading the game! I did this trick alot back in the day just to hear that beautiful song.
Yeah, I'm not sure how I'd imagine a remake would go without Takahashi, since Square Enix owns XenoGears, and Takahashi now works under Monolith Soft for Xenoblade. I refuse to play a redo of the game that wasn't directed by him, since without Takahashi it's not a Xeno game. Just what did Square Enix do to FF7 smh
Yeah, my list is very different from yours for some picks. Particularly with Xenosaga Episode 3 and XCX. Xenosaga Episode 3 had some interesting events, but I didn't enjoy the game as much as the first - my issue is that the story didn't flow, it was a series of contrived events. The first game had a MUCH more organic feel to it, the characters were far more relatable, and I really wanted to dig into that universe. But it felt like they didn't really know how to follow it up in the sequels, the writing lost its voice. Also, I didn't think the art style of the third game was as good as the first, it also has lower production values. Xenoblade Chronicles X was a compelling concept, it has the best graphics of any Xenoblade/Xenosaga game to date, and the gameplay DESTROYS the other games. XCX is also one of the four games I played over 200 hours on with a single save - the other games being Witcher 3, Dragon Quest 9, and Breath of the Wild. I loved the pacing of this game more than anything, there was always something to do, something to discover - and alongside Crusader Kings 2, Witcher 3, Dragon Quest 9, and Breath of the Wild, is one of my top 5 favourite games of the past decade. Xenogears is my favourite game of all time.
@@lindenstromberg6859 I agree entirely on XS3 being overly contrived or forced. I think few people see that as a problem because so many Marvel and blockbuster films these day do the same thing, almost like they wrote them backwards instead of having a character driven plot.
The six episodes was cocktail napkin planning. The three Xenosaga games (including the missing year) would have been the first two games out of the six.
Man, I'll have to give Xenoblade 2 another shot. I played up until I reached a town in some cave, but the gatcha system for the blades was a complete turn-off, for me. Now, try to imagine if Takahashi was able to completely fulfill his ambitions with the Xenogears series (with a good translation),
I feel like the game would be better off with a 'pity system' where either 100th rare core or the 50th legendary core guarantees a random blade, since there's no multiplayer there shouldnt be any reason whybits as harsh as it is

Suikoden 2, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, thats just from 90's what comes on top of my head.

I think it's biggest problem is the story pacing. In the first chapters almost nothing is revealed, and in the end you get bombarded. It's still one of my favourite premises in any game, though.
Btw I played it a bit later, and hearing people talk I expected a much worse cliffhanger. But the main conflict of the game got resolves, the end just set up a new one for the next game. As someone who's played trails, this was nothing :D
no it´s not. I did everything, put more than 250 hours into it, all trophies, best skell weapons, holo figures, complete monster list but it´s not enough to be my favourite. It is way better than Xenoblade 2 (for me a lot of jrpgs are better than that trash) but lacking in story and characters. World and traveling was awesome. Combat was really unbalanced thanks to the Skells and very very grindy. The online features also were very unnecessary.
I'm playing it right now and omg, I feel like I missed so much on my first playthrough which took me 80 hours already. I'm at 100+ now and I'm shook by all the things to unlock thrrough side quests

Man though I can't imagine Xenogears getting remade to the level of FF7R though. Xenogears is freaking huge! It has perhaps the most dense story I have ever played in a video game; in a good way too. It has some convoluted aspects but the characters deliver so hard and so does the narrative.
Don't forget we honestly lack a nice chunk of the game with the rushed disc 2.

Saga would be more complicated, as it was being developed as a, well, saga from the get-go, and thus they'd need to make brand new games besides remaking the original 3, but gears would be a bit easier, as they only need to flesh out the parts they had to skim through in the original plus add more dungeons. Tho reworking the story to make the side characters more relevant outside of their personal arcs would be nice, if you know you know

If Xenogears had been given the time and budget it deserved to see it made to its full potential, it probably would have been the greatest video game of all time. I'd love nothing more than to see it remade.
Iirc it had the time and budget but the team wasn't expirenced enough when it comes to planning according to the lead developer, when they worked on xenoblade chronicles Nintendo gave them a expirenced project planer and they pretty much made exactly the product they wanted to create and by now they gathered the experience they need.
and the theme songs in the very original xenogears - it's so beautiful, I still sing them sometimes after 20 years.
Xenogears has probably the best storyline from all JRPGs I have played.
For the game itself, albeit being unfinished, it is still a very solid JRPG.

Xenosaga I for me. The game always has special place in my heart.
So in my first playthrough of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I didn't get KOS-MOS until right before I beat the final boss but the second playthrough I got KOS-MOS before I even got Morag
Scale in PS1 games also were not hindered by graphical advances like games are today so Playstation 1 games just had alot more volume and scope to them in terms of their writing, story and worlds. Xenoblade looks huge from the outset but if you think about it, it only has like 5 major city hubs, compared to most PS1 rpgs which had massive worlds spanning multiple continents and like 30 or even some times 40 different towns and NPC hubs. The pS1 was truly unrivaled and i think was the peak of rpgs in my opinion. It allowed developers to really create an "epic" with no restrictions or limitations.

Why I played it on Emulator, having cheats and speed up function really helped
Who remembers playing Xenosaga when it first came out and having to wait forever for the squeal to drop after the end of the first game? That was so brutal for me.

All I will say is this...I'm a fully grown man who has been playing video games for 3+ decades, and I'm not ashamed to say that at the end of Xenosaga 3, I may have gotten a tad emotional. For me, that's a testament to the story and characters. Even with the problems of Xenosaga 2, that series is still among my all tike favorites, probably only behind Chrono Trigger(which is my favorite game of all time). Shion saying goodbye to KOS-MOS for the final time will get me every time. Shame those games(and Xenosaga) never got the respect they deserve.

I'm only here to make sure Xenogears is #1
It's very hard for me to really pick favorites over each other because I love all three franchises for other things. So if I had to rank them, I'd put one for each franchise in the top three. And for me personally this top three would include Xenosaga Episode III, Xenogears and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Of course with the previously set rule, Xenogears wins this spot by default because it's the only "gears", but it also deserves to be in the top 3 easily. Next to Xenosaga it has the deepest story but without even the need of three games building up the world. And on top of that the music and characters are awesome. It is one of these golden-age JRPGs that everyone has to play and an absolute classic.
As said in the video, Xenosaga Episode III just excels the other Xenosagas at everything. And on top of that it has the best JRPG cast I've ever seen. I just love these characters. In my opinion they are even above Xenogear's cast, which was already incredible. The only other JRPG that I see rival Xenosaga's cast is the one of the first Nier, but for very different reasons. Episode III also manages a miracle in how it does the impossible and gives this epic trilogy a not only worthy but great ending. It was the ultimate swansong to the series ans the PS2 after Monolith got bought by Nintendo and is the graphically most impressive PS2 game of all. It's one of my favorite games of all time.
Picking Xenoblade 2 over 1 may be a bit controversial. And the reasons are very personal. At first the emphasis on the huge open world and exploration was a big let down for me, along with the switch of platforms. Xenoblade 2 was much more a turn back to what I loved about the Xeno-series. And I know graphics aren't everything and Story is more important, but a big appeal of Xenosaga was always how good the character models looked and the first Xenoblade was such a step back from what was achieved on PS2 already. With Xenoblade 2, character models finally looked just as good as on PS2 again, but the whole exploration part and all the stuff that Xenoblade does so good comes on top of it.
(Good thing that the Definite Edition solves most of the problems I had with the first Xenoblade. I'm still currently playing that ^^)
And so, because I love Xeno games so much for their deep character-driven stories, I pick those three games.

Really feel like I need to give Xenosaga 3 another try. I hated it when it first came out, the lengthy cutscenes within the first few hours made me drop it. But *everyone* else ranks it higher than 1 and 2 - there's gotta be a reason for that.
Completely disagree with saying the Xenogears cast is better than the Xenosaga cast. I felt the saga cast was easily the best in all of videogames and a huge step up from gears. I personally like the story of saga better also but that's atleast a bit closer to me. My order would honestly be a lot different from this personally but it was a good watch.

No other cast has ever impacted me like Saga's. To this day, saga 3's ending is the only story to ever actually make me start crying
though I love the story and lore of Xenogears are unmatched, characters are one thing where I wouldnt give it such praise. Except the villains. Graph, Id, Miang and Krellian ar all top tier.

Fellow Xenogears lover here. My ranking of personal enjoyment is: Xenogears > Episode 1 > Episode 3 > XC1 > Episode 2 > XC2 > XCX. I love all the games however.
In the unlikely event that Xenogears ever gets a remake, I hope they don't move to a real-time battle system like in the FF7 remake, as well as it was done, I think it would take away from the fun of Xenogears combo-based combat.

It'll age like milk. The chronicle games have new combat system flavors and so they gain extra appeal. But in the years to come the standard system will change and that system too will feel dated, slow and the world poor. Just as the Saga and Gears games were fated to. But the stories of chronicles are no where near the league of the saga or gear games. And that is forever.
I love the xenoblade chronicles games and honestly my only issue is my god I wish they were also on PC to really push those graphics to what they deserve to be
So i've only played XenoGears and XenoSaga1, I have to say Xenogears is one of my all time favorite game's period! Right there with Legend of Dragoon and FF7.
I've always considered picking up Xenoblade and may end up doing so soon.
None the less i can say for sure if they ever rereleased Xenogears with updated graphics....i'd likely buy it twice.

Finally playing through xeno 2 and I feel like the story telling was really interesting even if it wasn't following all the main characters. I really liked what it did honestly.
Like the game is obviously flawed and is both as bad and not nearly as bad as people made me believe.
Nothing beats the original. Which speaks volumes when it in itself was incomplete. Great Vid, subbed.
I was lucky enough to get Xenogears when it first came out. Even with all of its flaws, it was still one of my favorite games growing up and kind of spoiled me for story depth and complexity.
So many other games just felt… lesser after I experienced the intricate relationships, deep philosophical and religious themes, and fun, but not over complicated combat.
You have bad guys who all have their own problems and goals, character arcs, and distinctive personalities. The hero has a good reason to refuse the call to action (because of all the trauma he went through). The romance is actually meaningful and well developed-not just the product of “well, you have two attractive people standing next to each other; let’s have them hook up at the end!”
It’s far from perfect, but it’s still a great game well worth your time if you like giant robots, deep plots that go well beyond a simple surface analysis, and being allowed to turn your party into DBZ fighters who leap into the air and ki blast foes to death.
I have yet to play Xenoblade 2, and Xenoblade X but here's mine:
5. Xenosaga Episode II - I like the game overall and don't remember any of the issues with the combat or art style that others have pointed out. Mostly I wish the game wasn't so myopic in telling Jr's story; in the context of the whole series it feels really weird. The music also had some very strange tracks that I don't personally enjoy going back to much though they are interesting and adventurous.
4. Xenosaga Episode I - Overall a really solid journey, really sets the stage for an epic story in a way that keeps the intrigue and hooked me in. The music that was here was pretty good, but not Mitsuda's best IMO. Walking through the 'dungeon' areas to the sounds of footsteps was...a curious choice.
3. Xenoblade Chronicles - Amazing experience with a fascinating story but what kept me hooked for sure was the joy of exploring the different parts of the world, the fun and vibrant cast, and the top top tier OST. The battle system was an even better version of FF XII's (a game I also really like) MMO/Single-player RPG hybrid. A special game that I am glad people now respect and recognize.
2. Xenosaga Episode III - From the moment I heard the final boss music of this game before I even played Episode I I knew it would be epic and worth every bit. And it was. A steep curve to start to reboot your sense of the world, it's story, and the terminology, but once you're in it shines with a brilliant OST, the best battle system in the series (esp the E.S. battles), and a true feeling of satisfaction at it's conclusion. Brilliant.
1. Xenogears - You hit the nail on the head in your take. Despite it's 2nd disc shortcomings the experience looms so large in it's story and scope of it's characters journeys that it overcomes that jarring shift between discs. It's an experience I'll remember forever and has for me the single greatest OST of any game I have ever played. I go back to it regularly to relive the sensation of that games world. They can remake it or not, it won't matter to me as I'll always have the original gem.
Dude, why did you have to use such spoiler-filled footage for XC1? You could've easily just used footage up until Eryth Sea but apparently you had to include scenes with Seven.
Good list, but recently replaying xenogears just puts it a step below how I remembered it. 3/4 of an exceptional cast, traded for a perfect story. I also believe the combat is worse than that of xenosaga 3 or xenoblade 2, but I'm fairly certain that wasn't a larger focus in the listing. Finally, disc 2 is rather iconic for how unfortunately skimmed over it was, almost completely due to the game's deadlines.
The takeaway: xenogears' rushed development and lack of refinement in the second disc unfortunately means it's not as polished as most of the other titles... therefore, it could be moved lower than the likes of xenoblade 1 and 2.
(I still absolutely adore it, and regard it as a masterpiece, like all of the xeno games)
Yeah, I agree, love Xenogears, but it's unfinished, not reaching its full potential. Wish there was a finished version in a remake. Keep the turn based combat, graphics, music, everything, just expand on that visual novel in the last disc where it lacks much gameplay and I would be thrilled.

Xenosaga III. So much fun, gets better and better more you get into it. Ties the whole series together beautifully. One of the very best. Sad you have to have a ps2 to play it. I miss you Rubedo.

Xenogears is the only title that we can battle in mechs. Understand xenogears is square enix property thats why monolith can't develop a battle system with mechs ? With that major element mission no future title can ever surpass xenogears.

Thanks Erick. Torna could have easily been treated separately but my main considerations were that Xenoblade 2 was a complete game without it, and Torna was a much smaller experience on terms of length and scope. If it was separate, I would probably rank it around the XS1 mark.
I hope xenogears have a remake or at least a remastered but with additional story or remake the part which was the disc 2 that was being rushed. Such a shame
This is far and away my favorite series! Definitely agree with Xenogears being #1, but am always surprised when Xenoblade is ranked ahead of Xenosaga. I've only completed an estimated 80% of XB1, but it's loaded with open world elements and bland sidequests, with a story that doesn't seem as grounded as Gears/Saga. But the commercial results seem to speak to my preference being in the minority (or Blade's marketing being way better, at least.) I still feel their market analysis is mistaken and remasters would make a ton with today's level of recognition. Looking forward to the day when I can properly complete the Xenoblades and form a complete opinion. I wish there was a way to import my saves from the Wii version to the Switch HD.^^

Xenogears lacks polish but the passion behind it's creation more than makes up for it.
The highs of Xenogears are some of the highest points in gaming history. It definitely has some flaws but the things it does well are unmatched. XC1 might be an overall better product when weighing pros and cons but it doesn't hit the heights that Gears did. Tough to say what matters more.

i just started playing xenoblade chronicles 3D again, going to try and beat it this time. its actually quite nice and sucks me in on the 3ds and the 3d effect is really nice i think. it adds depth to the environment and all the players health bars and the damage numbers are nice in 3d and the test boxes in 3d are nice too. you really get used to the somewhat small screen of the xl and still get the huge epic scope if you play in a room that is not super bright and wear headphones. the graphics are actually quite detailed on things if u move in close on them and move the camera, i was surprised at the little effects and detail.
I meannnnnn Xenogears was literally the original blueprint for FF7 so it'd be pretty fitting if it got the same remake treatment as the FF7 Remake

@Shaman Xeed I played for the first time a few months ago, the game definitely is really good (only did the B ending) but what turns me off is the english dub, I know the PSP version has a undub patch, but that was a port of the inferior japanese release of the PSX game, and as far as I know the image is stretched which can affect the use of CRT shaders (on retroarch that is)
@@rudidellama3718I played Chrono Trigger before Xenoblade 1 but I ended dropping it and didn't beat. So I beat Xenoblade 1 and became an RPG fan, then I finally beat Chrono Trigger.
But yes, it is not as mind-blowing after that, it depends on the experience of each one with the games, who played in the 90s might like it even more

Funny that you said Xenoblade 1, I tried years ago the Wii version and dropped half way through, last year I tried the Remake and enjoyed quite a bit, didnt fall in love or anything, I actually enjoyed alot more X, that game was something else even if the story is alright
X is my personal favorite, but honestly all the games are the best and X being at the top is mostly due to it being my first Xeno game. I sadly never got to play gears and saga myself, and was stuck watching the cutscenes instead, but the stories of both of those are fantastic.
Xenogears deserves some polish yes but please do not remake it like FF7. Keep it turn based with the same combat system.

If you own lunar complete edition on ps1 and have the making of lunar disc. There was a trick to hear xenogears awesome music. Play the making of lunar disc for like a second then open your play station while the disc is spinning. Take it out and replace it with the xenogears disc. It'll now play music and scenes from xenogears without loading the game! I did this trick alot back in the day just to hear that beautiful song.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I'd imagine a remake would go without Takahashi, since Square Enix owns XenoGears, and Takahashi now works under Monolith Soft for Xenoblade. I refuse to play a redo of the game that wasn't directed by him, since without Takahashi it's not a Xeno game. Just what did Square Enix do to FF7 smh

Yeah, my list is very different from yours for some picks. Particularly with Xenosaga Episode 3 and XCX.
Xenosaga Episode 3 had some interesting events, but I didn't enjoy the game as much as the first - my issue is that the story didn't flow, it was a series of contrived events. The first game had a MUCH more organic feel to it, the characters were far more relatable, and I really wanted to dig into that universe. But it felt like they didn't really know how to follow it up in the sequels, the writing lost its voice. Also, I didn't think the art style of the third game was as good as the first, it also has lower production values.
Xenoblade Chronicles X was a compelling concept, it has the best graphics of any Xenoblade/Xenosaga game to date, and the gameplay DESTROYS the other games. XCX is also one of the four games I played over 200 hours on with a single save - the other games being Witcher 3, Dragon Quest 9, and Breath of the Wild. I loved the pacing of this game more than anything, there was always something to do, something to discover - and alongside Crusader Kings 2, Witcher 3, Dragon Quest 9, and Breath of the Wild, is one of my top 5 favourite games of the past decade.
Xenogears is my favourite game of all time.
XCX I want to see expanded on - I really couldn't get enough of the concept of "What if a city from Earth landed on an alien planet?"

@@lindenstromberg6859 I agree entirely on XS3 being overly contrived or forced. I think few people see that as a problem because so many Marvel and blockbuster films these day do the same thing, almost like they wrote them backwards instead of having a character driven plot.
As a time traveler from the future. Xenowars is the best game hands down. Although people did enjoy the Xeno-Warriors spin off game...
Xenogears deserves a proper remaster.
The six episodes was cocktail napkin planning. The three Xenosaga games (including the missing year) would have been the first two games out of the six.

Totally agree. I can't wait for the next. I don't mind if it isn't another Xenoblade. I would love them to try something new.
Man, I'll have to give Xenoblade 2 another shot. I played up until I reached a town in some cave, but the gatcha system for the blades was a complete turn-off, for me.
Now, try to imagine if Takahashi was able to completely fulfill his ambitions with the Xenogears series (with a good translation),
I feel like the game would be better off with a 'pity system' where either 100th rare core or the 50th legendary core guarantees a random blade, since there's no multiplayer there shouldnt be any reason whybits as harsh as it is
@@ZeroAoAnimations There is a pity system that does exactly that. In fact it takes much less cores to get a guaranteed one. It literally only takes 2 legendaries or 4 rares.
