Xenogears is the best game in the history. Xenosaga is the best movie-jrpg and very unique in terms of setting. Xenoblade X is the best open world Xenoblade 1 has really good story and masterpiece soundtrack Xenoblade 2 is basically Xenogears(story and depth) + Xenosaga (Countries and Politics) MonolithSoft is one of the best developers
In terms of Xenoblade, here are my thoughts, I would say Xenoblade 1 has the best story and most believable cast of characters. It's world is fantastic and awesome, but not exactly believable in the sense that it feels the most like a video game others if that makes sense. Not a lot of the way the world and "countries" are set up sound like they'd actually function for as long as they did. But, I can suspend my disbelief in their case. X is the middle ground, imo. I think the world is overall believable, and most of the characters are as well. (Minus Murderess) In terms of gameplay though, it was far and away the best in the series. It's story was good for a game that went so heavy on gameplay and exploration. And it made sense for the themes of the game. Xenoblade 2 has the most believable world like, I believe it could FUNCTION without stretching for logic much, but the least believable cast and voice actors by far. Way too anime for them to be believable,(perhaps excluding Morag) and it's done poorly anyway. Also the least compelling story of the three. I've never played the Xenosaga series mind you, but I've played the Xenoblade series a shit ton.
Worth noting that Xenosaga 2 wasn't actually made by Takahashi, but Namco took control of the series after Xenosaga 1 underperformed in sales. To no surprise 2 was a complete mess and so they brought Takahashi back for Xenosaga 3. He also made Xenosaga 1+2 for the DS which fixes many of 2's issues. So 1+2 contains the definitive version of Xenosaga 2.
Nintendo seems to have a history of bringing the best out of development studios. Monolith, Rare, Retro Studios, Argonaught Software, Hal Laboratory among others. Maybe more companies should take their advice on game design.
so so so true. I really hope Mononlithsoft does what what Bluepointgames did and that is remake Xenoblade chronicles 1 with just better graphics and some small fixes and changes here and there, I guarantee you it would sell like crazy.
I got Xenoblade Chronicles on launch day in North America. Got Xenoblade Chronicles X launch day as well. Didn't get Xenoblade Chronicles 2 yet. I don't have a Switch yet. I should purchase it anyway.

agreed. While you can...ahem...recreate the other games on your computer without issue for pretty much all systems, xenoblade X is stuck for most people on the WiiU, and to this day, that console secondhand is still too expensive to justify purchasing for one game alone(since most other games have been thus far ported and the zelda games were just HD remakes). I wanted to play X when it came out, and I just couldn't justify buying a WiiU for one game alone, especially not one that wasn't a multiplayer game(I played smash on the 3DS). I think they will probably undo the censoring, and ship out the port job to another company so that they can work on another game, be it xeno or otherwise. I would think that is how it will go.
it would be difficult, XCX was made for the Wii Pad its a whole hell of a lot more than just a map. Also the MiiVerse community for XCX was the best and RIP MiiVerse. Odds are you'll get a XC HD remake before XCX.
Honestly that’s a good opinion. As much as I love Gears I think the blade games are better packages overall but nothing can top that story save maybe XC3
If Nintendo could somehow gain the rights to Xenosaga and Xenogears, only then could Monolith Soft can truly connect the universes together and not have to rely on faint references to the other games, in order to tell a story. If anything, I think a remake of Xenogears would provide some closure for Takahashi, as some Perfect Works edition, with additional content that could allude to the other Xeno games, all the while completing the story he wanted to tell with Xenogears, in the first place.

I want a remaster of the og xenoblade. I played it on 3ds but I want to experience its magic without the low polygon count, gross textures, etc. It deserves it so much
I love the story and characters of Xenosaga trilogy so much, it's a shame they never were able to finish the 6 games they planned. Im happy that their Xenoblade games are doing quite well.
Oh please please please forget all that other stuff and remake Xenogears. It is so tragic they weren't able to finish to completeness. That game deserves one above all others.
I just finished Xenoblade Chronicles on the 3DS like 2 weeks ago and it's an experience I will never forget. I've been planning on getting a switch and a copy of XC2 for quite some time now, now watching this video and hearing Shulk again hypes me so frigging much. Thank God for this the Xenoblade series.
I absolutely adore Monolith Soft's games. You can feel how much passion and care they put into them, so I'm really glad they're finally starting to get the recognition they deserve after all the struggles they went through. I can't wait to play Torna and see what Takahashi and Saga will do next!
Monolith Soft JP is easily my favorite developers and Xenoblade is easily the best game series out there right now. And yeah both other 2 Xenoblade games would be a wet dream port to the Switch. Especially Xenoblade Chronicles X would fit the system so well.
Yeah I scored my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles during its scarcity for normal price. My local Gamestop called a Gamestop a hr away and they had one copy left. So they held it for me and I immediately drove there to get it, well worth it!!!
One of Nintendo’s best for sure. They just don’t know how to make a bad game. Tied with gamefreak and intelligent systems for my favorite Nintendo developer.
This was great! I love me some Xeno games! I can't wait for whatever comes next from Monolith Soft. Weather it's a new IP, Xenoblade Chronicles X2, or Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I'll definitely buy it! I'm hoping for XCX2... and if we get a XCX port on the Switch I've decided after watching this video that I want to play it again on Switch. I love the music and world of XCX so much. I could listen to it or explore it any time!
Thank you for this video, it was amazing and brought me back to the magic that was Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It was my first JRPG that I have ever played and I have since hunted down a copy of Xenoblade Chronices for Wii, Fire Emblem Awakening, and can't wait to try Chrono Trigger (all thanks to the Switch for getting me back into gaming) and will be playing them all shortly. I love love love this video and hope that you do many more. It feels wonderful to know the history of the developer that has created an experience that has moved me the way that XC2 has and builds an even deeper bond with the experience. Would thoroughly enjoy a video about Hideo Kojima and the MGS series and of course, the story of his relationship with Konami through the years. Again thank you and well done!
I so love this series! I absolutely love Monolith Soft games. It just helps to know this companies back story. No wonder it’s such an excellent series. The developers strive for and deliver excellence.
Xenoblade Chronicles don't have just the most impressive world on the Wii, I would say it got the most impressive world of it's generation and rivals many games even today.
Monolith soft has some deep history this was so enjoyable to watch thank god for Operation rain fall we need to know what's next for Monolith i'd be amazing if we got Xenogears Remastered or even Remake probably XCX-2 or even that new Medieval ip their creating they make rich titles.
As much I would like to see a Xenogears remake I seriously doubt Square Enix will do it. They're already having trouble with FF7 remake and they won't give it a proper budget since its not one of their big IPs. Not to mention its heavy religious references won't bode well with those sensitive SJWs and religious groups that might take offense. Xenogears was controversial 20 years ago and was almost not brought to the West. It would be even be worse today.
8:13 I enjoyed playing Super Robot Wars OGS EF. Was afraid of playing it in public tho as it can get abit racey. Also, now it makes sense why KOS-MOS was in the game. Thanks for the info! Edit: please do Retro Studios next. I seem to (vaguely) recall Johnny Metts telling a story of how hookers and parties are involved somehow at the formation of the company.
Amazing! This was super interesting, comprehensive and well done! Chronicles 2 is my first experience with monolith soft and I absolutely adored it. I look forward to more from them!
Great video! I'm glad this series is back. Can you do a video on one of Nintendo's second party developers? Maybe Intelligent Systems or Next Level Games?
After just finishing my second playthrough of XC2, I can confidently say that it's one of my favorite games of all time. I don't agree with some of the design choices, some side quests are sort of dull, and the story has a middle that slows down too much, but these are such small flaws in the face of an overall incredible and heart felt story that has so much love and thought put into it, a world that is both gorgeous and fun to explore, and combat that is so refined and addictive, that time passes much too quickly while I'm playing. I'm really hoping that, with the success of this game, Monolithsoft is further encouraged to be just as creative with their next Xenoblade game.
Wonderful review of the history of a talented team. I was too young to understand all the concepts of xenogears. But I knew the character and world building and it’s development was truly special. I’m surprised I still have a Xenogears Brady games strategy guide. It’s so hard to part with. I actually just bought a switch lite and planning to purchase Xenoblade definitive and xenoblade 2.
The xeno franchise is probably my all time favorite next to .hack and final fantasy and the devs at monolith soft are amazing i mean having the courage to stick to there guns and produce content that s meaningful to them and not some get rich stick to the meta cookie cutter game that alot of devs are doing today
I want a localized HD remake of Soma Bringer...and maybe an HD remake/remaster of Disaster: Day of Crisis ( yes, I really wanted that game released in the US... ). I wouldn't mind re-buying Xenoblade Chronicles X for Switch if they port it either, as the Wii U gamepad can get uncomfortable after a while.....also, sequels to XCX & Soma Bringer. IF they work with Namco-Bandai & do an HD remake/remaster collection of the Xenosaga trilogy, then I hope they also make episodes 4-6 ( and if any of that happens, my sister will probably be after a Switch :P she loves the Xenosaga games & would love to see the other half of the planned story ).
Rather than Xenosaga's other parts, I would much rather see them work with Square Enix and do a HD remake/remaster of Xenogears as well as making its other 5 parts (4 prequels + 1 sequel).
Great video! I'd say though, that the music was a little loud, kind of making it hard to focus on your voice some times. I still got shivers from seeing the mech in Xeno X rising flying from Colony 5. That's an awesome sense of scale!
LOVED xenosaga, while not perfect, the story and world (universe) was so amazing. Really wish the series was able to end on its’ own terms rather than being cut short.
I bought XC1 at release. Played through Satorl Marsh 3 times (1st on Wii, 2nd on Dolphin emulator, 3rd on 3DS). My 3DS melted on my third attempt (don't ask) along with the save data. I'm now on my 4th attempt and made it through 1/2 the game, finally, which is past Prison Island. At this point, I can easily say XC1 has a much better story then XC2. I also think XC1's world is more cohesive, they flow better and do not seem disconnected unlike XC2's. I finished XC2 last year, so my opinion is not at all due to nostalgia. My only regret is not playing this on Dolphin emulator with HD texture packs. I feel like I'm missing out on the immersion playing it on the small 3DS screens. But it's more convenient, so I'll more likely finish the game sooner than later.
I've played xenoblade 1 and 2 and have wanted to properly play the rest of the series for years. Monolith is definitely one of my top favourite developers
Xenoblade 1 is the best game ever made. Xenoblade X has the best and most beautiful open world ever. Xenoblade 2 sits just behind Xenoblade 1 as the second best game mankind ever created. Xenosaga and Xenogears are phenomenal as well. Thank you for this video. Thank you Monolithsoft for the joy of experiencing your games, I have never seen anything come close.
I havent played any of the xenosagas, or xenoblades...i just have too many games on the go, but i have played xenogears, and adored it so, so much Ps: the Nintendo//Monolith partnership is truly a boon. Id love nothing more than hearing news about Sakaguchi hooking up with that operation, itd be perfect for an SNES kid like myself...I loved Breath of the Wild's expansive world, courtesy of that partnership, and i know that the xenoblades have been wildly accepted, and i havent fully ruled out the possibility of finally playing the switch, and 3DS wii/wiiu ports, someday
Xenosaga 1-3 HD on switch was sadly shutdown due to it might not sell well. Even tho they tought about it but didn't make the cut. Maybe if we really buy and support the Remake of Xenoblade Chronicles remaster for Switch. Wich comes out this year.
You know, I'm pretty sure it isn't a popular pick, but it sure is an interesting one: Team Shanghai Alice (also known as ZUN), the creator of Touhou Project. It both baffles and inspires me that one singular man continues to create games and music simply because he loves to do it. Maybe covering him at some point would be pretty legit. Although, the Touhou community is a pretty massive can of worms, given ZUN's policy of free reign on fan works!
You’re dorky... but fun. I like it. Nice work! My hope is that they some day... somehow... do an HD re-release of Xenosaga. That game influenced my young, squishy, malleable teenage brain in ways that impacted my life forever. More in the religious aspects and storytelling concepts and less in a Jung-ian way (it’s pronounced Yung, by the way. ;P). Keep making great vids, man!
oh yes, i would love to hear more about falcoms history, they are geniuses, trails of cold steel is one of the best jprgs i have played (and i played a lot) the best part for me is: falcom and monolith still live in their golden era with countinuesly high quality output instead of square enix that had their best days over 20 years back...
KOS MOS is very cool. Loved this android alot in Super Robot Taisen OG Saga. Even Exceed Was great. Sadly we still got no DS English patch for xenosaga1+2.
Dude thank you so much for making this informative video and taking the time and effort to do so! I have only played Xenoblade Chronicles 2. None of the other Xenoblade games, let alone all Xeno games. I know how it pronounced in Japanese as well, but I actually say it the same way as you. Lol. At least most of the time. I'm not always thinking or caring about being consistent when it comes to the pronunciation of that. It's super miniscule and I question why people might feel the need to criticize you on that. Anyways, I know this video is over 6 months old, but again thanks. It's always nice to learn more about the things we love, whether it is by our own personal research or someone kind enough to make a video or something else about it. I might look into the other games to see if I can fit them into my busy game schedule. I have lots I need to play still... Old and newer ones....

Monolith Soft JP is easily my favorite developers and Xenoblade is easily the best game series out there right now. And yeah both other 2 Xenoblade games would be a wet dream port to the Switch. Especially Xenoblade Chronicles X would fit the system so well.
Fantastic video! The Xenogears songs during the video was a nice touch. Also, "the studio was back in gear, xenogear" was LOL!! Nicely done!
It makes me so happy to see the xeno series and monolith thriving. Xenogears is on of my favorite games ever.
Was that a xenogear music?!!! Instant Like
It was actually called Monado, Beginning of the World, and then it was a last-minute decision to change it to Xenoblade
I remember looking forward to Soma Bringer.
Shame its Japan only
There's a fan translation somewhere in the net. That's how I was able to play it.
Yeah I scored my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles during its scarcity for normal price. My local Gamestop called a Gamestop a hr away and they had one copy left. So they held it for me and I immediately drove there to get it, well worth it!!!
Monolith Soft is my fav Dev. Im glad you did KYD for them.
Great video! Thanks a lot for the nice discovery of this studio and your channel. :)
One of Nintendo’s best for sure. They just don’t know how to make a bad game. Tied with gamefreak and intelligent systems for my favorite Nintendo developer.
I completely agree. They truly are the Holy Trinity of Nintendo
Nah Gamefreak is honestly meh. The real Nintendo "triforce" should be: Monolithsoft, Retro Studios, and Intelligent Systems.
Man, you are what a true gaming journalist is supposed to be like. Thanks.
Now we're getting a remake of Xenoblade 1.
Hope they continue to make great games.
Ruby Cirha Amen to that
Really Nintendo is lucky they got the deal they had. Now they have a hand in one of the JRPG greats!
So much feels on your video dude, great job, the music and your speach was great. Thanks :)
I was just talking with a friend about the history of all the Xeno games, then this video comes up in my feed, perfect timed recommendation RUclips!
Thank you for this, been a huge fan of everything Xeno since Xenogears, still one of my all time fav games in terms of story.
Great video! I'd say though, that the music was a little loud, kind of making it hard to focus on your voice some times.
I still got shivers from seeing the mech in Xeno X rising flying from Colony 5. That's an awesome sense of scale!
Rodolfo Romero oh, man you have no idea. Xeno X is incredible
Don't apologize! Zeeeeee-nooooooo! We know Xeno is primo, bro.
6:05 when I heard those notes, I almost fucking broke down, having crazy nostalgia
LOVED xenosaga, while not perfect, the story and world (universe) was so amazing. Really wish the series was able to end on its’ own terms rather than being cut short.
Well it can if we get a Switch remake. Hopefully Nintendo, Namco, and Monolith will be cool with continuing the series on Switch!
subbed, great voiceover, and nice humor. Great channel
Thanks for the video and congratulations!
Absolutely loved the video, I love the whole Xenoblade series and this was a great insight behind the games I love
This video got me hooked, it was so beautifully put together, thank you for a great presentation!
I've played xenoblade 1 and 2 and have wanted to properly play the rest of the series for years. Monolith is definitely one of my top favourite developers
the only xeno games ive played are the xenoblades, and xenoblade 1 and 2 are tied as my favorite rpgs ever by far
Thank you so much for the info!
I believe this guy has done so many researches to make every single video. Your videos are very useful. Keep it up bro! 👍
Enjoyed the video and subscribed to see what other content you put out. Cheers.
Love this Video! Just finished my first Xeno Game, XB2, and instantly fell in love with it :)
Wtfff they made baten kaitos??!? Thats crazy man. I played that game when i was a kid. Needless to say that i had no idea what i was doing
I havent played any of the xenosagas, or xenoblades...i just have too many games on the go, but i have played xenogears, and adored it so, so much
Ps: the Nintendo//Monolith partnership is truly a boon. Id love nothing more than hearing news about Sakaguchi hooking up with that operation, itd be perfect for an SNES kid like myself...I loved Breath of the Wild's expansive world, courtesy of that partnership, and i know that the xenoblades have been wildly accepted, and i havent fully ruled out the possibility of finally playing the switch, and 3DS wii/wiiu ports, someday
this was really great , the music que is really nice. this video deserve more attention i think :)
And we got also Torna and xenoblade definitive edition.
Probably my favorite game developer.
I actually cried listening to the music in this video. So nostalgic!
I just love Monolithsoft
Love the Xenogears intro music!
My favourite game of all time.
This is the monado's power.
Blade Master Over drive I'm really feeling it!
Are you holding back on me again BOY
Lets not loose our heads though!
Now it's show time
Now it's Reyn time!
Xenosaga 1-3 HD on switch was sadly shutdown due to it might not sell well. Even tho they tought about it but didn't make the cut. Maybe if we really buy and support the Remake of Xenoblade Chronicles remaster for Switch. Wich comes out this year.
Awesome video! I love the first Xenoblade game. Didn't know that Monolith Soft started as a project from a married couple. keep up the good work!
If there's any more videos like this, you just gained a subscriber
Don't forget that Xenoblade Chronicles was originally called Monado: Beginning of the World
You know, I'm pretty sure it isn't a popular pick, but it sure is an interesting one: Team Shanghai Alice (also known as ZUN), the creator of Touhou Project. It both baffles and inspires me that one singular man continues to create games and music simply because he loves to do it. Maybe covering him at some point would be pretty legit. Although, the Touhou community is a pretty massive can of worms, given ZUN's policy of free reign on fan works!
Awesome video John
This video won my heart and you, a new subscriber.
Agreed. We need Xenosaga on Switch so we can have most of the series on one system!
Nihon Falcom would be very interesting.
oh yes, i would love to hear more about falcoms history, they are geniuses, trails of cold steel is one of the best jprgs i have played (and i played a lot)
the best part for me is: falcom and monolith still live in their golden era with countinuesly high quality output instead of square enix that had their best days over 20 years back...
Oh, also. I subscribed!(:
Can you do a Know Your Developers on Nintendo Software Technology (NST). I would love to see that. :)
Also can you put that Xenoblade Chronicles X and Skyrim comparison video in the description?
