I remember seeing this on a local UHF station in the 80’s. They had a special promotion where you got 3D glasses in the newspaper. They used some weird ass yellow and purple 3D glasses instead of the usual blue and red. They aired this movie on Saturday night, and then Sunday afternoon they had a 3D Kung-Fu movie which used the same glasses. I just realize some readers might non know about UHF Stations or Newspapers, and now I feel old.
The Kung-fu movie was "Dynasty", which now has its own PROPER Blu3D release, just like the Mask. (You did buy a 3DTV back in the 10's, didn't you, or at least kept your PS4?)
The red/green glasses were only for TV broadcast, assuming you lived within a hundred miles of the then hard-to-find 7-Elevens.
I'm old enough to remember using tin foil to enhance the rabbit ears.
Ah back when my TV had 3 channels, and my Dad yelling at me was the remote.
I remember that exact same promotion and 3D glasses. Weren't the 3d glasses decorated similar to the mask? I remember staying up late with my dad on.that Saturday to watch the movie.
I have always wanted a dark and gritty remake of the 90’s Jim Carry movie, turns out I already had it all along lol

I'm surprised that Corridor hadn't done a r-rated edit of Jim Carrey's Mask to make it more like the comic.
tbh, I see some of scenes where he first puts on Loki's mask as quasi-horror, but then they kinda over ride those with the fact the mask comes off I suppose.

I wish we could bring back this kind of marketing. I remember when the first Hostel movie came out the TV spots talked about paramedics being called to the theater.
I love the mental image of an 11-year-old-Brad loaning his 6th grade teacher old black and white movies on VHS. There's something about that anecdote just that makes sense.
When I was a kid in the mid-1980's one of my local TV stations showed this on TV in 3D. They gave away the red/blue 3D glasses at local 7-11's. I remember kinda liking it and thought the 3D parts were actually not that bad.
One of those floating skulls subsequently made it to solo stardom as the Skull of the Marquis de Sade, with Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing
I did a brief write-up about The Mask, along with other Canadian contributions to horror cinema, for Nerdbot back in 2018. Haven't thought about this movie since then.
I really liked the Mask in 3D on MST3k, or Kingavision. The effects were pretty great through most of it, they got a decent print. I feel kinda the same as you do, that it's repetitive but the surreal bits and atmosphere help quite a bit. Could've probably cut it down to an hour long Twilight Zone and it'd be AWESOME.
This film looks awesome
I kinda enjoyed the movie on this season of MST3K. The 3D effects worked surprisingly well and the weird acid trip nature of the 3D sequences really gave the movie a unique feel. Worth a watch riffed or unriffed especially if you can find a decent 3D print of the movie like the MT3K gang did.

I find it interesting how that mask looks like the mask from the comics that inspired the 1994 The Mask. And that mask was explicitly addictive and turned the wearer into a murderer.

Speaking of forgotten 60's films, you should look up *The Cabinet of Caligari (1962)* starring Dan O'Herlihy (speaking of *Halloween III)* It has some really effective scenes that would look fantastic in Real 3D. TCM has a wonderful widescreen HD print they occasionally show.

Hi, Brad. There is a modern 3D blu-ray released for this movie. You have to have a 3D tv and 3D blu-ray player to watch it.
The fact that you have a Sleepaway Camp movie poster, i envy you Brad. That poster is pretty intense with its warnings.

This movie is really similar to The Mask comics, and the 1994 movie a little bit.
I have never really heard of this movie. It does look interesting, a dark and creepy metaphor for "Drug Addiction" with some great acting and moody atmosphere. While a bit hoaky at times, it does play it straight. But this is from seeing the footage here, I may need to give this movie a full watch if I ever come around it.
Also, seeing this movie's "mask" was designed, I wonder if it helped inspire the "Dark Horse" comics which later became the hit Jim Carrey movie.
