Rest In Peace, Giovanni Lombardo Radice. The hardest dying man in show business.
RIP
Now we should all keep a clear look out........He may just sit back up, in the background of another characters shot.
This interpretive dance version of the Court of Owls storyline from the Batman comics is taking some WILD liberties.
Well, this review feels timely after the news about Giovanni Lombardo Radice.
Wait, what are you talking abo-
*Googles up his name*
Oh...
Dang it! He was a very underrated actor and seemed like a very, very nice human being. As Brad says, he’s the best part of any film he’s in. Ciao Giovanni, you were loved.
RIP Giovanni Lombardo Radice.
Perfect i have solved my case of stagefright by taking a sip of hot cocoa in a empty christmas mug every time Snob said Caligula in the beginning of the video. And as a member on the patreon page wrote rest in peace Giovanni Radice.
RIP Giovanni, Italian horror B-movie legend 🦉
Im so bummed now just finding out about Giovanni Lombardo Radice he was my favourite actor, we used to communicate on myspace he sent me a email on my birthday for years he was really nice to his fans, RIP
Rest In Peace the Legend. Lovely guy :(
One of my top favorite Italian flicks. Doesn't matter how many times you watch it, you're still entertained.
O RLY
@@realDonaldTrump420 Can't you spell?
Nice to know ppl still give a hoot about these old slasher flicks
@@zetetick395 Hoot -- I see what you did there. ;-)
@@pandaloon6083 You clearly have a talon for spotting these things... 🤭
Still have the vhs. How I love this one. RIP GLR.
Can we have an F for Giovanni Lombardo Radice, a.k.a. John Morghen, who sadly left us just four days ago at the age of 68?
F to pay my respects
F!
Any movie with Barbara Cupisti, well, I'm there. The most underrated beauty of Italian Cinema...
Always great to see this movie get recognized. Truly deserved. RIP GLR.
I watched this movie last month for the first time, no regrets!
3:22 Simon Boswell is definitely a great talent. His music score for Richard Stanley's Dust Devil (1992) is fucking incredible!
With a script co-written by George "Big Ape" Eastman, and one of the producers being Joe "Porno Holocaust" D'Amato, how could this possibly fail?!?
Holy sh*t I never thought I'd find somebody who'd appreciate Simon Boswell's score for _Dust Devil_ as much as I do. That movie is also one of my favorite of all times! Not much in terms of scare, but the aesthetics are incredible!
@@TraTranc Underrated as hell flick! Very trippy, very haunting, and very bloody!
@@jacobmatthewcrawford2120 some of those shots in the desert are mesmerizing.
i LOVE this movie. the kills and the music are AMAZING. RIP the hardest dying man in show biz. he had A LOT of great deaths.
It’s a shame we lost Giovanni, one of my favorite sleaze flicks of the Italian variety.
A great review of a classic '80's slasher!
Michele Soavi [ pronounced like miKELLeh, or MiKAYlee SwahVAY ] has always one of my favourite directors. It's good to see his wildly underrated films getting some love. I highly recommend la Chiesa [ aka the church ] and Dellamorte Dellamore [ aka Cemetery Man ] .
Huh, I had always seen scenes from Stage Freight but after this review I really do need to check this one out
Also I am surprised no one has done a stage version of this movie; I can see this being very ambitious and fun too
OOOH, STAGE FRIGHT!
I just knew that sooner or later that you were going to cover it eventually, given how many references you made in your previous videos.
StageFright and Michele Saovi are both wildly underrated - thanks for doing this. I think everyone knows about Dellamorte Dellamore at this point, so let me suggest The Church as a followup. Regarding the alternate title, some astrology-types say that the owl is associated with the star sign Aquarius - that is the best correlation I can find for the it.
I don't know, but I think, that the movie's title is derived from the aquarium scene in the hospital, wherein the nurse is feeding those small fish to the big fish. Wallace, the infamous actor is the big fish; our cast are the small fishes; and the theatre is the aquarium.
@@pandaloon6083 Yeah, I think the aquarium scene is a visual gag, punning on the original title of the movie (Aquarius)
- I suppose pretty much the whole film takes place in a theatre, which is kind of an 'actors aquarium'
Some good ol Horror Italiano, thanks for it too Brad!
Thank you again for an awesome video. You really shot this review "between the eyes"
Rip giovanni lombardo radice
More than 20 years ago I alongside a couple of friends attended an event called "Kettensägenmassaker" (what is german for "chainsaw massacre") in Düsseldorf.
It was a huge party in an industry complex, where they played horror-themed music like White Zombie, Turbonegro, Misfits etc.
They also projected horror movies on one giant wall of the hall.
I was the designated driver that night and after a while got pretty bored being the only sober person in a room full of drunk people.
So I got a coke, lit a cigarette, sat to a wall and watched this movie from start to finish, mind you without the actual soundtrack, but accompanied by loud metal music.
I've seen it a couple of times since then and love it dearly, but for this memory alone Aquarius holds a special place in my movielovin' heart.
R.I.P. Giovanni Lombardo Radice 😢
Respect to Lloyd.
Great review and huge thank you for not calling Stage Fright a giallo even once. Some fuckers think any movie from Italy where somewone gets mutilated is a giallo. Huge number of RUclipsrs and even some books call Stage Fright a giallo even when the murderer is presented clear as day in the first act. Did those hacks think story like this would be told in those yellow-cover books in the 60's.
I agree, obviously Giallo is quite a broad genre in terms of how you can manipulate the basic structure and tropes, but a general rule of thumb it's a murder mystery where we usually don't know the identity of the killer until the final act, and more often that not, not until the last 5 minutes! Stagefright literally follows the American 80's slasher plot structure in every aspect, except it does it way better! Therefore to call it a Giallo is just stupid, it's an Italian slasher in the same way Absurd is. My mate does that mind you, he's got a fondness for Italian Horror, but he always calls The Beyond his "favourite Giallo" and it takes every fibre of my being to say "It's not a Giallo ffs!" Very irritating! 🤣
I love this movie so much! Very underrated. I’ll never forget that one scene where all the dead bodies were set up on the stage.
That owl gave me everything
I remember renting this movie in VHS, in the mid 90's :)
Brad... what... what have you DONE?! Surely you must have realized that "Owligator" hadn't been done. The most effortless and pleasant to say mashup... and now it's in Post-Production. Brought to you by the BRAIIINNNSSSS behind Corona Zombies 1&2!
This is probably my favorite Italian slasher
I was watching a production of 'Noises Off' and thought, "What if this were not an amusing farce so much as an horrific blood bath? And that's how it all started!"
Never saw this film but heard about it. Now I intend to watch it! Thanks for the review!
The Night Owl
The Night Man's crime fighting alter ego.
The fans demand the final Pierre Kirby review.
Rip Giovanni Lombardo Radice a.k.a John Morghen. The Italian Sean Bean.
Thank you for covering this Snob. I'm still mad that I discovered it so late in my life.
Syfy needs to get on Sharktopus vs. Owligator.
Now, onward to Tubi to watch this. Thanks again, Snob!
Staying Alive reference? Automatically makes the review better.
What would have been even better is some song by Def Leppard.
This and theater of blood are my favorite movies centered around slashers in movies or plays, btw you should totally review theater of blood at some point
That really was well shot. You can tell even from this trunciated version.
This is a beautifully shot and well scripted 80's slasher. Not too much sleaze or any other kind of cliché that you will in other 80's films. 👍🏻
Some surprising emotion elicited in the shower scene. Laurel and Main Girl have tension throughout the movie. When the killer picks her up, she looks at Main Girl, who in turn looks back pleadingly. Will Laurel scream, beg for her help, and thereby reveal and endanger Main Girl? A final bitch move on her part? The sympathy we feel for Laurel is countered by the realistic, but somehow cruel, desire for her to remain quiet on for Main Girl's sake. In some respects this harkens back to the earlier kill on the stage: everyone is genuinely concerned for Corinne...until they learn that only Corinne knows where the key is hidden. Sympathy shifts to ugly self-interest in a hurry. Although I'm not a horror fan, I suspect that Stagefright has more layers than most slashers, am more confident that it has more style than most slashers, and am certain that it is a good, entertaining slasher.
I've seen Evil Dead: The Musical. There was a stage production in Medford, Oregon. The blood poncho was the best three dollars I ever spent.
This video made my day even better, thanks! And The Ritz is great, i laughed my ass off first time i saw it.
Nah, what really made Irving snap was sitting through the Smurfs movies 😆
Rest in peace Giovanni Lombardo Radice
Only heard of this movie a long time ago, and seen bit of it in other videos. Definitely looks like a underrated gem of 80's Slashers ala "The Burning". I also wonder if the killer, Irving Wallace, was the inspiration for "The Court of Owls" from the Batman comics.🦉
Been following you for years Brad, keep up the good work!! 👍 (commenting just to help with the Algorythm :P)
Greatest slasher movie of all time
15:32 oh my god, after so many years we’re going get a Pierre Kirby Movie Review next week!?
GET READY FOR THE SHOW!!!!!!
R.i.p Giovanni Lombardo radice
I couldn't believe I would be afraid of an owl.
Speaking of Bo Svenson, I watched him in 1988's Primal Rage. If 28 Days Later happened in late '80s Miami, you'd have Primal Rage, and I'm surprised by how tall Bo Svenson is.
Is there a Playlist of the Snob doing all 6 Zombie Movies?
How's the future kitty RUclips stars Brad. ❤️
RIP GLR! What a great movie
God, could you imagine Silence of the Lambs, but when Clarice meets Hannibal for the first time, instead of pan down the other cells, Hannibal leapt onto the screen to the sound of a sax blast.
That’s the only thing that could have made SOTL even better 🎷
Ngl, the scene where the woman gets strangled & stabbed on stage got my shook. I've seen many slashers that do scenes like that but dayummmm
One of the actresses in this is Mary Sellers who was also in the Italian horror Ghosthouse. You could have fun reviewing that wacky flick.
22:55 So the Killer was Anakin Skywalker !
I honestly hate the trope of cops or government agents supposedly protecting someone and what they really do is hanging out in a car outside the building, either getting easily picked off by the Killer or being completely oblivious to the carnage inside the house. Its so aggrevating.
RIP Giovanni Lombardo Radice. Also, was that a picture of Eastman @14:10?
im not sure how I feel with the background of the snob being the same as all the other video brad does it look ''less snoby''. But hey I still love your stuff !!
I'm glad the cat voice has stayed
I love the Free Beer joke.
The play in this film is what Michael Keaton SHOULD have been directing in Birdman.
If only Willy was around for "The Beyond" maybe Dr. John would have had a higher kill count.
Hi brad.
Sorry I missed this review!
Is that a photo of the Antropophagus 'imself at 14:10?
It's been awhile since I've watched Cinema Snob. It seems he dropped the character, or at least made the character more like himself. Honestly, I don't mind this change.
Cool review as always Snob 💯
I love this movie!
~Aquarius: The Night Owl~ sounds like a better title for this Grindhouse cult classic
I tried watching this myself, and man I swear this movie WANTS you to hate it. I kept waiting for it to get good, like the opening scene, but damn it’s one of the rougher slashers I’ve watched.
That owl mask is really creepy
Was going thumbs up another good snob video. But it's well as the time I'm typing this sitting on 666 thumbs up.
The play director reminds me of Lucy's boyfriend on Twin Peaks (y'know, the gadabout with the affected English accent)...........At the very least he could be his brother. 🤔
- Michele Soavi (the movies director) did a whole set of great Horror pics, starting with this then doing The Church / The Sect / Cemetary Man etc over the next few years, each one quality!
The sleazy director taking charge reminds me of Tony the pimp taking charge in Demons. Not nice but they're not cowards.
14:12 Isn't that a picture of George Eastman in his Anthropophagus make-up?
Enjoyed the Hootie the Owl joke.
19:55 looks like a room Rebecca would be tamed in.
I'm sad the Caligula Series didn't get an In Spaaaaace entry
Oh hey, I've actually seen this one.
This one also reminds me of John Waters. He did something similar in Cecil B Demented years later.
I am surprised he hasn't done this movie before.
11:22 I didn't expect to hear a line like that, 4 days after The Late Late Show ended.
14:40 This movie invented Escape Rooms!
22:12 Lady, you had a gun, and he appeared 1 foot in front of you! Why didn't you shoot him?!
SO, this wasn't one of those Italian horror movies that turned into porn, was it?
BRAVO!!!👏👏👏👏👏
This one is a classic. One of the better Giallo.
...I thought it was a little weird that the Snob was doing a Hitchcock film.
Sting is in it under a different name. Wonder why he didnt point that out.
there's also a 2014 remake of stage fright.
All about the owl and then your watch The Secret of Nimh and you'll see that 🦉 crush a spider with his claws and eat a moth.
Where the High Tops / Stage fright crossover?
Now I miss Lloyd...
I was hoping for "Death By Jazz Hands".
2:25 Chaplin?
4:39 Was this going to turn into something like "Behind The Green Door"?
11:10 Wasn't she his underaged sex slave who didn't know it in that movie?
