Pierre Kirby was 'delivering yachts:' he was a pirate, people. He made the movies on a lark and returned to the real adventures on the sea until he ended up in Davy Jones' Locker.
Hi kids, and welcome to another episode of Will it Fit! Today, we’ve got an entire goddamn hour of old-school Cinema Snob episodes! We’ll be using olive oil and popcorn butter to fit this guy in! Not sure how I’m going to stick the metaphysical concept of time up my ass? Well, it’s not my first time! And remember, it _always_ fits!
I loved him that way. His persona there perfectly fit the movies he was reviewing. They are also shoddily made and kinda off putting. When you watched him for the first time you wondered "who is this kooky nerd what the fuck is this I'm watching", the same feeling like when you are watching some really obscure movies. The shitty camera, constant whistling background noise, poor lighting, slightly creepy visage, snobby acting, it all added to the character. I think his editing and inside jokes were also much more clever. Like here he used the copy and paste technique, typical for these Hong Kong films when "talking with Karpov" about the characters and when he complained about voice-over, he was actually talking over the movie. Real shame he gradually turned into Nostalgia Critic clone. Also, I wonder what kind of looser will read this all this shit.
@@petrolak He's still doing exploitation movies. He's just branched out into different, more well-known types of exploitation. Christploitation, actionsploitation, cheapo-kid-moviesploitation, Tyler Perrysploitation, he's still true to form. You could also argue that he graduated from reviewing exploitation movies to CREATING exploitation movies.

In my memory, I thought Pierre Kirby was comfy chair era Snob, but instead I was blindsided by Floor Snob. I haven't seen him sitting on the floor in over a decade. Just wild, it's legit inspirational watching him make videos with dog shit audio, even dogger shitter video, while sitting on the floor. HIs little two camera gimmick was so gd charming because you know he had to get up, stop the video, movie his camera, sit back down, and do the second camera trick. Beautiful. RUclips is so beautiful.
40:34 - 41:01 I know this scene is supposed to be tragic, but they somehow made this scene unintended comedy. Seriously, I laughed till I cried. Girl: "Uncle Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I want you to staay with miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. I want to stay with yoooooooooooooou!!!" Uncle Lee: "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER! GO AWAY, I HATE YOU! NO GET AWAY, NO!" Girl: "Uncle Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" *BOOM*
From wikipedia: Gunfight at Red Sands is also noteworthy for being the first Italian Western to feature an Ennio Morricone score. Harrison turned down Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars and recommended Clint Eastwood for the role. Harrison joked that was his greatest contribution to the cinema.
1:20- At least they fixed that later on. 56:04- Until after this review was released. I'm still waiting for Brad to review the final Pierre Kirby movie, Crackdown Mission.
I think Thunder of Gigantic Serpent is trying to do a Mothra thing, where it's not going out its way to kill innocent people, it just does while trying to rescue its owner. It just doesn't really look like that when it could have just gone under the bridge. :p Also even without the Pierre Kirby scenes, there's still a lot of people being bloodily shot up in a movie about a giant snake that likes playing with a beach ball.
"Pierre Kirby, now around him there was lots of speculation. Good looking, could act and reasonably good at martial arts. The guy sailed into Hong Kong on a yacht with a few very nice Singaporean ladies in tow. Said he made most of his money delivering yachts between different destinations in South East Asia (nice work if you can get it - but legitimate?) So why the speculation? Well, Pierre went off to deliver a yacht to the Philippines - never came back. Next, the story circulates via Pedro (guy who ran all the movie editing for IFD / Filmark) that he was attacked by pirates, resisted and was thrown overboard. Again, it does happen in that region. So, six months on and this guy Edowan Bersmea is in the Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong to meet someone and spots Pierre in the crowd. Shouts to him, guy turns and heads out - never to be seen again." ~ MKPReviews->INTERVIEWS!->Good ‘Guise’ Wear A Black Eye Patch (Cinema Nocturnia) If only someone would make that into a movie, then the legacy of Pierre-fucking-Kirby could be brought into the lives of everyone
Sky Larker Did they ever find a body? If they did, then my condolences to the Kirby family. I'm not saying he's alive but who knows......people have faked their deaths quite well throughout history.
Sky Larker That's the part of the mystery. I want to think that he's alive but I'll leave it at that for the sake of his sister and family. It's a shame. I think if he'd been dealt a different hand he would've gone on to be a great action star.
Ponder von Lampgurgle Well, I suppose I can try and write a script, for you guys and all fellow fans and supporters of The Cinema Snob (Brad Jones). Hopefully it comes out alright. I'll let you guys know how it progresses, but it may take awhile, if you guys have any ideas be sure to let me know... I'll start writing right away.
It's a shame that we never got to see Pierre Kirby in an American movie (American Commando 2 and 3 don't count) because he would complete the roster for my pet project, The Expendables 4 with Arnold, Sly, Bruce, Norris, Lundgren, Harrison Ford, Jason Stathem , John Cena, Chuck Norris, Reb Brown and archival footage of Snipes, Michael Keaton, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, all the actors who played James Bond, Robert Downy Jr, Cynthia Rothrock, Lucy Lawless, Van Damme, Segal, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Antonio Banderas, Denis Quaid, Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Samuel L Jackson, John Travolta, Jason Blade, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Demi Moore, DiCaprio, Kurt Russell, Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, Brando and Charlton Heston!
What's sad is the disc with Ninja Untouchables is arguably one of the best in that cheapo (and obviously dubbed from EP VHS or worse) kung fu set. NU is the most watchable/hilarious of the Godfrey Ho/Joseph Lai chop jobs included (yes, it has several more, talk about getting your money's worth!) and the other movie on the disc, Monkey With 72 Magic, is pure madness even by fantasy kung fu standards.
I love how he says "I've read a lot of reviews of Godfrey Ho???" How many people are actually aware of the existence of this filmmaker and have actually searched this shit out to even write a review???
There is a channel with almost all of his movies right here on youtube, its called “godfrey ho cinema” and it has quite a lot of views, there is also another channel called “wu tang collection” where they have plenty of martial arts movies, some good, some bad, not as bad as GODfrey ho tho
There's also a RUclips channel called Sh*tcase Cinema and the reviewer there has covered several Godfrey Ho films that featured Richard Harrison in the lead.
Wikipedia says that Kirby died in 1990. Weird that there's a page about him in Finnish and German, but not English.... Man it's been a long time since I last heard the name Keith Coogan. I gotta watch Ski Hard/Downhill Willie again someday.
Yep. Found that pretty mystifying too when I read it. Who knows what happened? He could've been battling pirates with sweet martial arts moves his last minutes alive for all we know.
***** That sounds even cooler. :D My German has degraded quite a bit due to not using it for the last 15 years, but the Finnish wiki adds yet that Kirby's party was transporting a boat to the Philippines at the time they were lost (which I think wasn't in the German one, other than that they appeared to be pretty much the same.) Not a terribly significant piece of info but I thought I'd mention it since there's not a whole lot information on either articles.
German Wikipedia reads: "Kirby starb 1990 bei der Überführung einer Yacht mit Freunden auf offener See." He died in 1990 while on a yacht with friends. Probably attacked by pirates somewhere in Oriental seas I guess.
I just watched the first episode of mission impossible and I swear to god I saw a dude that looked just like him. Its like 45 mins in and he doesn't have any lines, but its a pretty good close up and Its a dead ringer for Pierre. I know its 1966 but holy shit they must have been related somehow if its not the same guy.
And the first two Super Sentai franchise entries were made by the late, and forever great, Shotaro Ishinomori. However, I can see why some could make the Godfrey Ho comparison when it comes to Power Rangers, seeing as Saban outright stole most of it's footage from the 16th entry of the franchise (Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger), and has continued to do so ever since. He also tried pulling this shit with Kamen Rider Black and Kamen Rider Ryuki (Which is incidentally a sin he shares with Godfrey, who stole footage from Kamen Rider Super-1), and thank fuck he failed miserably in that attempt to make another fake franchise.
John Miller Godfrey Ho movies and 1970's toku are similar because they have the same special effects, same fighting coreography and over the top characters.
The one thing that always confused the hell out of me about the Godfry Ho stuff is why do they also dub the footage he shoots? Does he just not own a boom mike?
Sincado Oh okay. I saw one internet posting of his death being in 88 but I found a couple more that mention 90. So 90 it is. Damn internet. Still not 100% accurate. I do feel it was very tragic. I think Pierre had what it took to make it big if he wanted to.
I always thought Randy Savage was kinda cool but he can't beat Pierre Kirby! BTW the clothes in AC3 look so very 90's, was that movie really shot in '88?
Was there another episode where Brad eventually sees the light that Pierre Kirby is the greatest action star that ever lived? It seemed to be a rather abrupt transition. ;)
Hell no. But he needs something to make him as badass as Chuck Norris. How about he was infused with the power of Poseidon when he was dumped into the sea, and he subsisted on eating sharks for weeks before he returned ashore. Sound good?
E Quinn Yeah that sounds way too vague so I guess it's either drug-related or he faked his own death and now sails the high seas, free as the wind and owing no man.
The snake is called 'Moslor'. You can read the subtitles when the girl says it. They are in Greek, but if you've studied math even on high school level, you should be able to read it.
Pierre Kirby was 'delivering yachts:' he was a pirate, people. He made the movies on a lark and returned to the real adventures on the sea until he ended up in Davy Jones' Locker.
Weren’t ninjas considered thieves and hired assassins? I guess he was a sea ninja, too.
That's an interesting theory, I like it.
This is a untouched video that not even cinema snob knows about!
i honestly do miss the old episodes...underground reviews at its best and its pierre kirby!!!!
Agreed. Old Snob videos are my RUclips comfort zone.
The low quality with everything just fits so well, gimme that audio static

Like David Bowie in Fire Walk With Me.
It's so strange seeing a young, facial-hair-less Cinema Snob sitting on the floor in someone's basement...
