The band wasn't newly recreated for this project of Bruno and Anderson. They are members of Bruno's band, the Hooligans, including the two backing singers, who also play instruments. Anderson .Paak also has a very talented backing band, The Free Nationals. I wouldn't be surprised if Anderson's band members played on some of the tracks of the Silk Sonic album and will perform live as part of the Silk Sonic band as well.

I’m surprised that you made no mention of the chord progressions and chordal extensions displayed here! As a jazz pianist and composer, that was what I noticed first! This song is ironic with the numerous lyrics, but with the complex melodic lines and lush harmony... genius! I haven’t heard minor 9th chords in pop music for 50 years! This is fire!

I think producing songs to fit different genres and eras doesn't mean the song isn't original. I also think the way Bruno (specifically) tries to incorporate his sense of humor into the songs he writes and produces is very original.
