That's a great sounding Texan. I have a '64 in sunburst. Also a great guitar. They don't all sound that good, but when you find a good one.....Oh My! The long scale gives them a bit different timbre and a bit more power than the J-45s and J-50s of that period.
I'm sure you know this, but 'Blackbird' was played on Macca's 1967 Martin D-28, though for picking, the intro to 'I've just seen a face' was played on his Texan.
I agree with Mark Thompsons comment ☆☆☆☆☆ Its funny when the texan is mentioned . Pauls always comes to mind. But...another texan comes to mine, and its that of frampton cones alive fame, different year tho. I seem to notice the bass strings on this example doesnt have the boomy bass sttings of pauls and peters
Nice playing! First time I saw "Yesterday" played flat-pick style, (usually 2-finger style). You also did it tuned "concert pitched", not drop "D", which "Sir Paul" often does with his Texan so he could thumb the bass strings easier. But, I often do concert pitch for that song for the lack of another guitar at the moment for the drop tuning. Great guitar you show cased! I didn't know about the adjustable ceramic saddle. Interesting. Note: The longer headstock allows the A & G strings to be straighter going to the tuning pegs which means less likely to go out of tune compared to their Gibson counterparts.
Other top Artists besides just Paul using the "Texan" include Peter Frampton, Noel Gallagher, Jimmy Hendricks, and Kurt Cobain besides others....Great sounding instrument in it's time and still is today....
I'm told by a few people mine is a 64 Texan, but still trying to verify the year. I have a lot of conflicting information to identify the year. It still has the plastic adjustable bridge that Gibson used for a couple of years in the early 60's (I'm told possibly 62 - 63?). But the SN is six digits (214xxx) which one site says were used in 67-68 (I think that is incorrect). The tuner knobs are white which another site stated were only used through 66. I really think the plastic Bridge is the tell, anyone know if they were used in early 64? I've seen photos of other supposedly 64s online, one with a SN before and another after mine, but both had the Rosewood bridges (which may have been replaced). Thanks
Hey Mark, first of all great playing always, would love to hear you do a little Dust In The Wind by Kansas, I haven't been a long time subscriber and may have missed you doing it, will look at some old videos & see if I can that one, love watching your guitars of the day, you & Jen have a great night, BadBill
Hi Mister Tester - follow and really dig your A-Fridays, , , especially when you don't punch those creatures too hard ;-) But did you know Paul played the (controversial) plastic bridge version - w. adjustable porcelain. Yeah ! everybody bashes them, , , , while blissfully sailing away to tuned down Yesterday. Ha. . Roll'n'Rock on there
Astute observation. I've been playing a '63 Epiphone Texan for - well, all my life, really, my father bought it new when I was 4 yrs. old, and I turn 60 this year, and it's the only guitar I've ever played. I've always noticed that gap. It is weird, but is part of the Magic of that Guitar. I think it's The Best Acoustic Guitar. I put my fist right through the back of mine, in a blind fit of rage, then threw it across the room where it crashed into a corner and sat there, all smashed. I thought it was finished. Like I'd killed my best friend. Well, I picked it up, removed and set aside the pieces of wood - including the label on the inside - and gave it a strum. It STILL sounds Great! I love my Guitar.
Please could you tune it down one step and replay yesterday with the G shape as Paul did? This obviously affects the tension and resonance, would be more authentic and better test the likeness. I am in the top 1% of Beatles fans on Spotify so please do as I say.
TupolevPilot Watch the video and look up the history of Epiphone and you'll know why... in the early years they were actually more popular than Gibson for a while.
Epiphone is still putting out quality gear. I own a 2014 Casino and a 2015 Sheraton II. After being setup correctly and with a few basic upgrades, they sound and play great. More times than not I'm reaching for the Sheraton over my Gibson 64' 335 and 66' 345. Don't get me wrong here, my 335 and 345 are my babies as well. :)
Yep, Kurt's was a 61'. Earnie Bailey (Kurt's tech) installed a Bartolini 3 AV pickup in it as well. Kurt preferred the Texan over his 53' D-18* *Not to be confused with his late 58' D-18e that he used during the infamous Unplugged recording. Hope this helps. Cheers
I had an Epiphone early 70s vintage. It fell apart in less than a year, the neck just came out of the guitar, unrepairable. The guitar was not abused. I give all of my guitars nothing but love. Never bought another one.People run down Gibson, but I have not had an issue with any of the Gibsons I've owned, five of them, just sayin. I'm thinking it was probably a one off thing, but it did spoil my taste for the brand.
Can't you tell Joe bonamassa to quiet down with his blues riffs while you're talking
1: "Blackbeard." 2: "Scrambled Eggs."
iluvj50 proper fan!
Pete Clarke yeah, man! I love the beetles 😂😂

Robert Petrie more than them 2

This is a must have acoustic for somebody's acoustic arsenal especially vintage acoustic collection or arsenal.
My uncle has a 66 texan he bought new in 67 and it is a great guitar
Can't play this guitar without doing Yesterday or any Beatles song, that is one beautiful guitar

Some Epiphone love! Much appreciated.
Anymore Guild acoustics? Would love to see more of, thank you in advance.
That is literally my dream guitar

Now that Mark has sharpened up his McCartney licks, he's going home to work that magic on Mrs. A
Beautiful job man! I've been on a Stills kick for a while now.....any different Martins around? How about a Gretsch White Falcon? Thanks.

Actually, Paul is tuned a full step down as opposed to dropped D.
amazing songs. why are they so amazing...
Beautiful playing, Mark.
Mark, you are one helluva great guitar player. You should make a record. Loved this episode.
Class guy when he says "Peace" at the end of all his videos. Thanks, Mark.
Other top Artists besides just Paul using the "Texan" include Peter Frampton, Noel Gallagher, Jimmy Hendricks, and Kurt Cobain besides others....Great sounding instrument in it's time and still is today....
That looks like it was made yesterday! Which in a bad way makes it look like a modern day Epiphone from China! Cleanest guitar I've seen them do.

I HEARD THT SONG YESTERDAY
Sweet guitar!!
Sounds great.
Damn Mark that version of Yesterday was seriously wicked good. Also I think you said it was STRATURDAY TOMORROW!!! ✌️💚🍁😗💨💨💨👍
"I'd buy that for a dollar." ~ Robocop
I'll trade a jail house baloney sammie for it. Green of course.
Nice playing btw
A friend of mine has one of 1962, it has a extra fret after the nut.
There you have it!
Nice job playing Yesterday in F! Never seen it done that way, always see it down-tuned. Well done
the original son is played in F so yeah...
Guys I searched the site with no luck. Do you have a '62 and/or '64 Gibson J160e sunbursts (John's)?
I'd kill to have this one!!😍😍
Loved that, sounded great. I'm sure you just sold that guitar . Somebody should love and appreciate that
The whole no leather jacket thing makes me uncomfortable
wow no wonder Gibson bought them, a lot of competition there ... what a sound !!
Keep playing Mark...that was awesome!
These bad boys are hit and miss. I've played really shitty ones, and some that have blown me away.
But that seems to be how it goes with most things.
Kalamazoo made....pretty much a Gibson....great guitars if you can find one...
Gotta love those Epiphone Texans
Please Jen, What's The Video Editor Software.
"Bravo....encore"!
YESTERDAY I THINK WAS RECORDED ON A GUITAR LIKE THIS - MAYBE HEY MARK WILL MENTION THAT
Very nice Mark 👍🏻🎸
Hey Waldo! You forgot to tune you guitar down a while step for 'Yesterday' man!!!
Blackbird was played on a Martin D-28... but good playing :)
Well preserved. Not one finish check.
as soon as he said it was pauls guitar I think everyone new what he was going to play first :)
I bought one, Yesterday
And Yesterday!
Mark! No zippers! haha love the vids keep up the good work!
I thought blackbird was played on Martin D-28

More Epi's please!
going for the Billy Squier look I see.
Damn Mark's got some chops.
Weird. The string spacing off at the saddle. The gap between G and B strings is disproportionate to the others.

Band or Artist themed GotD would be swell
Lol, love you Jen!
That's one sweet Epi......
omg just like Paul's!
fret buzz somewhere there
How much is it
please do Gretsch Falcon
If your playing Paul's tunes wouldn't that be a pleat run in stead of a pic? Just saying she sounds sweet either way my friend
Blackbird... Nice...
You guys should play some tony sly
For Chinese made guitars these Texans are really great 👍
Pablo Escobar Chinese made??
Seekeroftruth Yes Epiphones are made in China
They were not made in china in the 60`s.They were American made back then in the same factory as Gibson
This one was made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
@@grandnaguszek7417 U got a long way to go
Ever get any vintage archtops
No frampton? Wow..

TupolevPilot it is now but it wasn't at the time this instrument was produced
theaxedude1 why wasn't it just called Gibson? Was epaphone a different company?
TupolevPilot you really should watch the video...

@@shakeyperspective3981 I've got a '63, and I think it's the best acoustic there is.
@@JimDangerZone Very nice! I think Paul's was a '63 if I'm not mistaken. Excellent tone and playability.
@@shakeyperspective3981 His was a '64.
@@JimDangerZone I was thinking I had read years ago that his was a late '63. Thanks for the correction.
