Looks great Carlos , I had a nice trailer as well but move and got rid of it. I don't like the way prices are just going higher and higher but with out a good competitor its all about demand. I would recommend a trailer for those who like to do quick solo trips it worked for me last year. Thanks for the post buddy
I actually found the hobie cradles worked great on my malone trailer. I drilled out 2 holes per mounting slot and used "U" shaped bolts facing downward to bolt them securely over the crossbars. This added strength to the crossbars and it's also removable. The one thing I don't like about the cradles is the pads that come with them don't slide well. I might try covering them in marine carpet to aid pushing/pulling the boat off. Great video thanks for sharing.
This will very likely be too late to help you Carlos, however if anyone else has a collapsed crossbar, contact Malone and send them a photo of your problem. Apparently a few of these got out of the factory with the incorrect bars which are not as strong. I had a similar problem and just received a new set of bars no charge, including freight. About those tail lights... replace them with LED lights. I found a set on EBAY at $23.00 including shipping. Be sure to ask if they have the DOT embossed in the lens or they are not legal. And yes, add the Bearing Buddies model # 1980A (hub I.D. 1.98" no threads) Aside from the lights, this is a great trailer. If you become interested in doing the PVC conduit supports (i.e. You Tube's MoFishYaker) under the Pro-Angler; it just so happens the "Uni-Strut" is exactly the same dimensions as the Malone brackets that hold the crossbars; and you can use the same U-bolts. Makes for an easy job to convert to tubes and brings the boat down to an acceptable level for launching. Visit the Hobie forum to see there are lots of folks doing this and the Hobie rep says it is an accepted way to transport and store your Pro-Angler. Bought my Malone Trailer from Austin Canoe and Kayak www.ACK.com they have great prices and no charge for freight when I bought mine.
Good video but I would point out that the wing support puts all the weight in one small spot in the middle of the bar. If you got rid of the mount and just rested the yak on the bars (with a pad and or stops) the weight would be better distributed and likely not bend anything. I would agree, great trailer but it has some design shortcomings. The high Thule bar set up is one of them.
You have a lot of good info here. I just bought a used one and this vid helps me big time. All this makes sense. Just wondering what the deal is with the bearing buddies modification? What will happen if you don't do that? Will the bearing freeze or lock up if you don't do this?
+Mondo Aguadam The buddy bearing caps just help in maintenance of the bearings. It gives you the ability to add grease without taking the hubs off the axle. If you don't have to use them. Just follow the manufacturers recommended service interval and you should be fine. Grats on your new trailer!
Carlos, now that you've had this trailer for a couple of years what are your overall thoughts and are there any additional comments you would add? Thanks
+Bass Star The trailer is still working great. I did modify the large "U" brackets that the cross bars attach to. I cut them to be lower by at least half way. I use a Hobei TI and wanted the trailer to place the kayak on the water better. The way it was stock was too high. This made it harder for me to load the kayak back onto the trailer. You had to lift it up off the water. Now it just slides on like a boat. I also added a front wench to the trailer. Which helps allot. It really makes a difference when pulling the trailer out of the water with the kayak just placed on it. Especially with heavy loads. If the boat ramp is busy, you just hook up and pull out of the way and finish with your tie down for transport away from the dock. Also, because I lowered the trailer. Its hard to see it when backing up without the kayak on it. So I purchased some little pole flags I put on the trailer when backing up. I just take them back off when I'm ready to load the kayak. P.S. I also shortened the cross bars so they don't stick out past the wheels.
+Carlos Cuadra Thanks Carlos, by the way in reading some of the posts below I noticed that Malone was replacing some of the crossbars. Did you get yours exchanged and if so did it bend as well?
I reinforced mine by sticking some rebar through the center of it. It still bends a little but it's not an issue. If it becomes a problem later on. I think I will just buy some square steel of the same size and make that work.
If someone really wants the trailer there really is not much you can do about theft. I just have a lock on the hitch ball and one on the trailer. I guess a chain would be a good added security measure. I have never had any problems. Most people leave trailers alone. Besides, a kayak trailer is light duty. (Cant do much with it). I would imagine that they would want to take the bigger trailers. Before they would want yours.
I believe it was these. www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/trailer-tail-brake-turn/square-led-trailer-light-kit-4-12-led-braketurntail-light-kit-w-17-high-flux-leds-pigtail-connector/612/

My Microsport came with led lights and heavier duty cross bars. Malone must have upgraded some of the components
The video is old. They upgraded.

The new trailer comes with LED lights and the crossbars are heavy duty steel bars
Thanks for the update.
Great to find this! Thanks for your effort! The other Malone video was two years old. Current is better......

Grats on your new trailer!
I see you are in California. Did you buy the trailer as a kit ? If so was it easy to register it ?
Yes I did buy it as a kit. It was very easy to assemble. To register, you have to take it to DMV for inspection.

Posted a new video real quick.
How do you keep your trailer from being stolen while you leave your vehicle unattended.
It's locked to the hitch.
Did you just use a chain and lock?Or is there something specific to purchase? A lot of sketchy people around my neck of the woods

I suppose you're right. I seen quite a few things happen around lakes I've fished. Thanks for the tip
Can you tell me the make of LED tail lights that you used? Thanks, great information.
I believe it was these.

Thank you. My trailer should arrive this Friday. Should be big fun putting it together.
David Massey go to any truck stop for lights
Too much weight on the kayak for those bars. A good quality kayak is 50 lbs or less. Never load them up and place on any trailer bar system.
So what your saying is Hobies are not good quality kayaks? :-)
Nicoya Yes. Horrible
@@billyrock8305 Any recommendations for a good sit on top kayak?
Nicoya Delta Cat. Best made in the world. Super light.
The only people who hate on hobies seem to be people who can’t afford them. Sucks spending the $, but they are priced high because there is no equal.
