Great review, thanks! I've been very happy with the trailer for 4-5 years now and you only touched on the best part of this trailer in my opinion -- the retractable tongue. It's easy to stand up and store at the front of the garage!
I have the same trailer (xt) and wanted to remind y’all that you won’t be able to retract the tongue if you Mount gear boxes on it. If your garage space allows, the boxes are great, but if you don’t have the space (like me), you will need to retract the tongue. However, you can retract the tongue without having to unload the trailer. I keep 2 kayaks and a 15’ canoe on the trailer when it’s in storage. Highly recommend mounting a swivel tongue jack (Reese 74410 works for me) on the tongue - makes it easy to move the loaded trailer around when it’s not hooked to your vehicle.
It was nice to meet you guys at La Jolla today. Congrats on the Thresher, that was a great picture. That super long tail is always a sight when up against the side of a kayak.
So glad you posted about the inaccessibility of the Malone box before I got one. I have the trailer and plan to rig for my Hobie. Can you share how you added the tongue platforms for your cooler with tiedowns securely? Thank you.
I just added a flat platform using L brackets. Then I just added the tie downs around the tongue of the trailer and tighten it down. The platforms themselves are not the strongest but they don't really need to be. The only purpose of them is to provide side to side stability, once you tighten down the straps the downward force is all on the trailer tongue. Hopefully that makes sense. I 100 percent trust it, I have traveled long distances on rough roads and not once have I even had it loosen up on me. I trust have 6k of camera equipment on it. Hopefully I answered your question.
Bill Morley yes for sure . The tongue retract kit actually comes with rubber stoppers to bolt on the back of the trailer so when you stand it up it protects the metal along with making it more stable upright.
Thanks for the information and video. This was done well. I use my utility trailer but it’s extra weight that I have to carry for no reason. But it keeps me from having to own two trailers. By the way I dig the hat, where can I buy one of those? I always have trouble finding hats that fit and Do not have a completely flat bill. The slight bend is perfect for fishing with sunglasses. Thanks again Tim- Midwest
Tim Morris thanks for the comment Tim, as for the swag I recommend following our Instagram page, we will announce when hats and shirts will go on sale, how much and how to get it. Thanks again.

it's a nice trailer, but the hauling capacity isn't enough. I started modifying jet ski trailers to hold 1 kayak in traditional jet ski spot and built rack with Yakima bars to accept all accessories. Total carrying capacity is around 2000 lbs and I never go smaller than a 12" wheel. Total investment is around a $1000. Not dogging the Malone but with a full cooler and 2 boxes, you're probably overweight with 2 Hobies. But whatever gets u on the water is aces by me. Keep Paddlin'
Not sure if this will make sense, but do you put the kayak in the J-hook so the bottom is resting against the long foam of the J and the sides rest on the short foam of the hook, with no part resting on the bottom of the J? This way the kayak is lying more at an angle. Or do you rest it in there with the side of the kayak resting on the bottom of the J, making the kayak just a bit more upright?
How do the J Hooks work for you ? I have 3 Hobie Outback’s and Malone said I needed to use the Bunk Kit because the J Hooks were 75 lbs Max and the Kayaks are 103 lbs. I would have loved to use the J Hooks.
When you secure the Kayaks to the trailer do you just use the J hooks with straps or do you also strap down the front and rear of the kayak? I am just curious because I know when transporting on top of a car I see people securing the kayak with 4 straps total, 2 for the J hooks and one for the front and one for the rear. It seems like with a trailer you might not need anything more than the straps on the J hooks. What do you do?
Hi Pete. I have the Malone Microsport XL. Same basic rig. For Kayaks in the 10-12 foot range I don’t run front and back tie downs, but for my 15 foot canoe, I strap it gunnels down with 2 straps on the trailer and front and back ropes for stability. Don’t know if the ropes Front and back help any, but they give me an edit sense of security.
Why are there such long intros on videos... it's not a feature film folks, nice video but I bet you lose lots of people before you get to the actual video.
Great Video! I have the same trailer and started with the same Malone "J" style mounts and eventually had to change out the crossbars and mounted PVC pipes to fit our two Hobie Pro Anglers. So far the trailer has been a dream and our only complaint is that it's quite a bit heavier than our Trailex Trailers. Great idea! How tall is it standing up with the tough retracted?
@@ArfOtis I'm not sure. It's extended, sitting outside currently. I would guess 8 feet, but not for sure

I’m just here to see the well-organized garage. 🙏
A tip: you can watch series on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Felipe Brock Yup, I have been using flixzone for years myself =)
@Felipe Brock definitely, I've been watching on flixzone for months myself :D
Excellent pro and con information. Thank you for the post !
Thanks for the clear and concise review. Looks like an awesome setup you have there!
Thanks for posting. Outstanding presentation.

ya man for sure it was nice chatting with you, till next time
Great video. I like the tongue boxes.
Check out Tennessee trailers. They make what may be the best kayak trailer I have seen.
Will do
Nice precise review 👍
Thank you 🙂
Enjoyed the detailed video. FYI Hobie does not recommend storing or transporting their kayaks on the side.
Jerry Krabe try recommend a lot. Mine have been on their sides for years with no issues. Thanks for the comment

It’s worth every penny
Just checked there web site it's been updated to 800lbs cap, with mandatory 12in wheels, the power of the purchaser.
Great video. Will this trailer store upright with the tongue retracted?

Beautifully
Hi! What pelican case is that one? thanks!
Awsome review thank you
Nice video. Underbody tool box open from front not top. Might work.

how wide did you space out the J hooks to hold the Hobie kayaks? More than 5ft?
PRICE IS INSANE
How fast have you gone with this trailer.
What is the part number or a link for the Malone Trailer accessories to shorten the length of the trailer for storage?

I like the way you have coolers mounted on the tongue of the trailer. Where did you get the plates you mounted on the tongue that the coolers sit on?
Great video, thank you
Thanks, nice video. Where did you buy the platforms to mount stuff on the tongue?
waynehross I built them
thank you when will sombody build a trailer with a box for rods ,paddles life vests.
redwood1957 right? I just got the Yakima top water box and will be doing a review on it soon.
Good video

Great video.. the price is way over board. I think a DIY could fabricate something a lot cheaper
thanks for the advice!
Do you think a 22 foot kayak (22ft Seaward Passat Tandum, fiberglass) can safely be carried?
pgevanthor 20ft is the max length according to Malone. Thx for subscribing to our channel.
I have a 14' Hobie Oasis. How does the trailer handle highspeed long distance (100 mile+) driving?
What steps do you use to secure kayaks to the trailer, and to secure the trailer when not hooked to your vehicle when stationary (not in garage?)
How do the J Hooks work for you ? I have 3 Hobie Outback’s and Malone said I needed to use the Bunk Kit because the J Hooks were 75 lbs Max and the Kayaks are 103 lbs. I would have loved to use the J Hooks.
what is the speed limit on these Malone trailer?
pk9394racing not 100% sure. Ca the limits 55,
75 mph for MicroSport
...... I am not comfortable with the price!

Pete Moss no I only strap down the two points on the j hooks

How often do you need to grease the bearings?
Laszlo Bagi I grease them about once a year.
