    For anyone who's curious, Dave's tone was crafted using a 5150 mkII into a Mesa 2x12 (loaded with a Vintage 30 & a DV-77), and the dirty/hideous element was created using a Marshall Jackhammer pedal, believe it or not (into the same rig). Cheers for the love!

    Honestly I don't like your grindstein tone. It has that modern active pickup tone. I think it would be fun to hear the grindstein track with a more passive and low output PAF style PUP. But that's me. I grew up Florida death metal and 80's thrash. I can't stand modern Fishman sounding stuff. I don't get it. It has such a neutered fizzy top end. I don't understand why these kids love it so much. It just doesn't have the bite of a good seymour duncan or Dimarzio. Gotta remember Angus and Malcom had low output. And that's the greatest guitar tone ever. Iommi recorded with P-90's. EMG 81's only sound good if you have a million dollar rig like Hetfield. That is hyperbole but you get the point. More isn't always better. Does that change once you put a pedal on top of it? Of course! Absolutely! I love your technique of mixing fuzz/HM-2 square wave symetrical tones. But starting with a more dynamic pickup that accentuates the articulation just sets you up for a better tone IMO. Instead of slamming the frontend of the preamp with as much gain as possible. That does make mixing harder but I look back at all my favorite albums like Beneath The Remains, None So Vile, Blessed are the sick, Legion, Anthems to the welkin at dusk. It was always passive pickups.

    • @KohleAudioKult
      @KohleAudioKult  10 месяцев назад +2

      I’m a big EMG fan. I just love how they focus on the midrange and always stay tight.
      But I’m sure there’s a ton of Grindstein videos from other people using passive PUs online!

    • @johanneschristopherstahle3395
      @johanneschristopherstahle3395 10 месяцев назад

      The amp room was the first plug-in that felt like it reacted like a real amp to me. But it could be hard to get the mic position right with the mouse. Sometimes it used to refuse to move and then made a sudden big jump. In the end I still prefer to use a real amp + microphone or at least a DI signal after the power amp.

    • @barnyardrecordings
      @barnyardrecordings 10 месяцев назад

      @@johanneschristopherstahle3395 I mostly use Celestion Speaker Shaper within Amp Room but the Marshall pack is great too. Add a little room tone and it's awesome. The stock JCM800 with a TS in front is very realistic.
