- In this episode, Jay heads to a backwoods region of Ontario to meet up with third generation outfitter and owner of Winoga Lodge, Troy Mansfield. Jay and Troy load up snowmobiles and head out to focus their hard water angling attention on giant lake trout and humpback whitefish.

Jay's a beast I've been following him since the beginning... he's come a long way and it's been great to watch him get all these amazing opportunities from collaborating with meat eater, head banger lures, and opening his own resort. He's a good clean respectable person and one of my favorites to watch

First fish is Lake trout subspaces called LEAN (most common one). The other two are Siscowet and Humper.

It's fun to watch ice fishing clips on RUclips. You guys have all the best fishing tackle, electronic gear for days, top of the line ice apparel, and high def camera's and phones galore. All these things make for super fun entertainment and I know you have all worked extremely hard to bring this kind of professional, even exceptional content to market. So thank you! What I was thinking while watching this evening is go less...Buy some garments at the local good will, pick up some rods and reels from a pawn shop, charcoal and tin can it to keep your ice hole open in zero degrees. Suffer a little bit :) I completely understand that to get to some of the excellent fishing spots that you film, you need to be able to use the best equipment possible. But, maybe do urban fishing. Find some potholes that have highway access, do a series on ice fishing on a budget. Bring the fans that watch your channel and have minimal resources a greater chance at landing a few fish on the cheap. Suggestions only, and again thanks for all the content!
This is exactly what I was thinking. If you have a rod and a chainsaw you already own all the equipment you need. Sometimes less truly is more

To consistantly catch big lakers, one MUST fish gigantic, deep, cold waters rife with oily forage. A guy can fish some so-so lakes and get lucky here and there, but to make a plan like a deer hunt to scout, plan, implement, then execute a trophy trip you simply need to start where trophies are known to live in good numbers

@@dylanmounsey7515 I’ve never fished for them. I was speaking of lake trout in this context. Aaron always says it Clayton as well Jay in this. And Gordon says it as well. Never once have I had a lake trout mark up high. Still gonna try it though
Trout will often be cruising right under the ice or in shallow water near the edge of the lake

And it works just fine. Fish are NOT smart. The fishing industry has fooled nearly every single person buying gear out there. Fish do not care what line is. Zero percent. Remember most world record fish were caught using old dacron line, with no monofilament even. Just tiny rope. And it worked then. Youve been sold specialized placebos. Spool up with mono of any kind, put lures in front of fish and 90% of the time theyll eat. I laugh at idiots in my bass club that think you need 14lb flouro to catch bass because they somehow care about your line as the fish sucks your lure out of a gigantic handful of vegitation that is far more coarse than any fishing line

I like catching Lake Trout on Michigan but i won't eat anything I catch fr that cesspool. The trout and salmon I smoked were disgusting
