I am so so grateful to Kojo Otoo and others who have posted this series to RUclips. I watched it quite a number of years ago and fell in love with it. Watched again maybe a year later, still hoping as were others worldwide that it would be renewed, as there are many books in the series upon which this series is bases. To rediscover it during lockdown and this horrible worldwide pandemic is simply a delight!!! Jill Scott and the ensemble of actors are a treat for every one of the six episodes. No one can explain why this series was cancelled, I have searched the internet for years. Bring it back!!! Fans worldwide will be thankful! But with the same cast, which is everything! Why not?

By far, my favorite in the show remains Anika Noni Rose who plays Grace . To get a second season from this wonderful series would be difficult in today's time when everything is censored and considered offensive by half the population...too bad.

Jill Scott is excellent in this series. To have embodied this character and all the mannerisms of the character is sublime. I watched the original when it first came out in 2008 (sic) on BBC. It is still enjoyable today. Well done Jill and the others.

The way her fear of hospitals and the underlying pressure of her sick brother, and their unspoken-but-obvious-from-context rough upbringing comes through underneath the situation is powerful. The nuanced deep fear, and reticence in her voice and expression when Precious asks her to sit in that hospital ward.... superlative acting
Refreshingly different. Love it. After all the muck we are made to watch these days this series comes as a breath oh fresh air. I can't thank the makers enough. Kudos.
Can you imagine trying to make this today though? Everyone gets offended by everything, so, it would be just a shell of what this series is. The WOKE people would have this ripped to shreds and it would never see daylight or would be unrecognizable.
The first series was shown by the BBC in the UK. I found the setting and the central characters and casting very good. .I was less engaged or convinced by the story but a high quality production. We need more TV with culture and originality

I read that HBO were considering continuing the series with 2 or more standalone films, however in 2011they decided not to go ahead with the project, despite favorable reviews. Very, very disappointing decision.

Lovely interaction between Mma Makutsi and Wellington... Mma Makutsi asks him if he'd like a proper place to live and regular food as well as real schooling... she turns her back for a second and he's gone like the wind! So funny! Wellington, I think, is Botswana's version of Huckleberry Finn! :D

I think it was cancelled because the director Anthony Minghella passed away shortly after this series was completed.

I lived for two years in Lesotho serving in the Peace Corps. Many of the African words are the same in both countries. This series is very realistic.
