Saw Sammy open for Boston at the Forum in '79. He finished his encore with this. We almost didn't stay for Boston. The bikes were waiting in the parking lot and we felt the NEED!
Eddie Van Halen: Forces Michael Anthony to take less money than other members of Van Halen, then kicks him out of the band for no reason.
Sammy Hagar: Sticks with Anthony for decades, and lets him take lead vocal in the band where Hagar's the lead singer.
Hagar wins.
derekmok I’m not religious. But amen brother! 👍🏼👍🏼
People put Joe Satriani down , He is one the thee best guitarists in the world . This super group still pumping out rock the way it was always supposed to be . Their cover of highway star live is the best I've ever heard .
elmo1171 ditto that!!!!!!!
I never heard of anyone putting Mr. Satriani down. One of the best players there are and seems to be a truly humble person. And that cover you mention is awesome.
Absolutely love the Bad Co t-shirt!!!
Sammy was goin on long before Van Halen. When he wrote this, he was in Montrose. Always a pleasure Sammy! Rock on with yo badass self!
YOU can "talk to the hand", I'll that "The 'FOOT"!!!
These guys ROCK!!!
God in heaven Chad Smith's drum solo is beyond reproach
this is for you Ronnie..Lord knows we miss you...
Everytime I watch chickenfoot I see 4 great musicions having a blast and loving life. Thats what music should be all about. You can tell that these guys are loving what they are doing right now.
These Guys Kick Some royal Ass! I Desperately need to see them in Concert!
best version of this song EVER!!!!!!!!
Sammy wins by sheer tenacity...PERIOD....and he always seems to be having WAY more fun than the rest of us'n...sells out EVERY single time he comes to STL..nuff sed...
From the MONTROSE days. I love it, "ROCK THE NATION" and "PAPER MONEY"...
What we're seeing here, is 4 extremely talented musicians having a helluva' fun time.
Meanwhile a certain band from Pasadena is languishing in misery.
Keep rockin'; Sammy, Michael, Chad, and Joe.
And no ones egos are getting in the way.
Sammy took my breath away with that intro Satriani impossible to believe. All ARE awesome, Joder!!
R.I.P. Ronny Montrose forever be misse.
Good to see Sammy back out on stage playing his Explorer and kicking serious ass! One of the greats for sure. As far as VH goes, they were great with both Sammy and Roth. And as far as comparing guitarists, music is sooooooo multi faceted and if you are constantly comparing and trying to jam this guy into this mold or that mold you just don't get it. As long as it comes from the soul it rocks and moves you.
The Supreme Super Group right here folks!!!!
Sammy the RED rocker still kicking some ass. Roth was amazing on VH1/2 But after that Sammy owned on everything else. Including his Montrose and solo stuff. Keep rocking
That Fricken ROCKED ! ! !
My good God that is awesome!
A day without Sammy is like a day without sunshine
Love You, !!!!
Holy shit! That ROCKED MY ASS OFF!
This is what I call a real show....
van halen, nowadays, can only dream about doing an awsome show like this...
A lot of folks forget Sammy can play a Guitar. Jammin'

Oh by the way, sorry for commenting again but I keep coming back and watching this shit and it gets better every time.
Who knew the Grecian Formula crowd could rock this hard?
i do not know how old u are but cool that u listen to this. My 15 yo daughter digs this!!!!!!!!!!
We from the Grecian Formula Crowd knew, as we saw them when we still had hair.
*ucking amazing! Sammy !!!!
LORD OF THE STRINGS THE MIGHTY SATCH!!!
and that is how you end a f^$*in rock show!!
Un. Fucking. Believable.
He plays that lap steel really well !!!
I wouldn't have gone that far
Damn their ripped this one good !
I really do love these guys...I grew up with my mind expanding from Joe. I fell in love with girls, listening to Sammy's Standing Hampton. I rocked summers listing to 5150 and 0U812. But holy fuck, this is old guy rock. This is so fucking hurtful. I have never, not even for one second, been able to stomach Chickenfoot. E-GADS.
The BIG winner from the band that was Van Halen w2hen they were GREAT?
Mike Anthony......he's the smartest/luckiest guy in this band........savvy enough to go with the WINNER that is Sammy and leave the drama of the brothers behind. This looks like the fun band to play in while Dave is stuck with the drama of the Van Halen family and joke that a great band has become with.....dad, uncle and son.
***** Sammy has described the Van Halen Brothers as so protective of their "brand" that no band member that doesn't share that last name can ever truly be considered an equally important member in their eyes. That explains a lot over the years if it's actually an accurate assessment of Alex and Ed. Michael Anthony's friendship with Sammy is easy to understand when looked at from this perspective. It's easy to understand why Ed and Alex viewed him suspiciously enough to end his time as base player. Ed and Alex ARE Van Halen. Everyone else is just a hired gun, You just know DLR's Rock Life is all but over without the Van Halen memories or it's hard to imagine he'd ever have been willing to go back to it. Oh, and don't make an argument that suggests these guys in Chicken foot aren't interested in getting paid.......of course they want to make money. They don't give the tickets to shows away.
And never.. to be seen again. It’s a rock and roll tragedy.
Didn't know Sammy had an intro like that in him .
HEAVY
Their styles are so different, You can hardly compare them. Both are Fucking Epic, Both are successful, but Eddie has adapted his own style, something only a select few players can do, However That is not to say Joe is not a total bad ass himself. I think in their own right they are 2 of the top 10 guitarists alive today.
Joe Satriani cracks me up. This rocks! 14 dislikes ... eh ... must be justin bieber fans.
This is RnR. This is better than when I saw Hagar in 83 at the checker dome. Ed and Al have to be scratching their had after seeing this shit. Even though a penned by Hagar Montrose song and cover of the Who this shit Rocks.
Brining this classic into the new melinia
Dear God i thought they were never stop playing...
Chichenfoot is the GREATEST.
nice opening with the slide guitar... almost a thing of the past. Used to be a staple of rock/blues in the 70's. Now, it seems the only musicians who have it mastered are C&W (unfortunately for me, not my genre)
@5150flstc "restricted" no way. This is a masterpiece. Other than in montrose, Hagar has always played lead on this song. The way Hagar's solo rolls into joes is great. I think u need to watch it again. Smith on the drums kick ass by the way.
That was fuckin great!
Bad Ass!
I've seen Eddie at his best, and I've seen him at (probably) his worst. Eddie at his best is every bit as good as Joe (I am a HUGE Satch fan). Eddie at his worst can't touch MANY of the guitarists I've played with over the years. I've sen Satch twice, and he is consistently MIND BLOWING! Same with Steve Vai.....CRAZY!!! I love Eddie (a Van Halen fan since '78), but based on the last time I saw him, yes, washed up would describe it. I hope he gets his s*#t together, but..........
language mate, it his opinion and he is entitled to it. They are both great guitarists in their own right, personally I prefer Joe's style, but they are both great pioneers and guitarists. In music there is no better or worse, only different in my opinion.
Joe is a Sith Lord!
michael anthony is fucking outrageously badass🌪👻
Yeah, but Kirk already knew how to play guitar when he met Joe. He was in Exodus by then, Joe just helped him get to a new level of ass kickingness
Let me introduce you to EVH from 1978 "EVH Eddie Van Halen - Im The One *GUITAR TRACK*". Joes a decent guitarist, Eddie's a legend. That's probably why Eddie's influenced millions of guitarists. How many has Joe? Anyway, my intension isnt to knock Joe, but to enlighten you EVH haters. Eddies churned out sooo much, it would be hard for any guitarist in Rock to come close to what Eddie has contributed to the genre.
Sorry to correct you but Joe taught Steve. Vai's story is he showed up for his first lesson with a $5 guitar and a pack of strings. Joe has a long list for big name students.
I love cheese steak sandwiches!
These bitter ex VH guys should not feel slighted. This a good little group.
I wanna hear the Unchained riff on steel!
4p:52 hec yeah" say what. I say 4:52 fuck yeah. I gato go pull up some of the peppers shit and see what chad does there. That fucker can play. As far as Ed vrs Joe" they are both guitar genus's with totally different playing styles, nothing to compare to. Hagar, still got his pipes and can also hold his own on the guitar at 65ish. Michael, no he doesn't have the voice Hagar does but he don't need to their just haveing a good time with it.
Sammy and Mikey are the most talented members of Van Halen
Tell Nancy hi, and that she's a super lady!
Jimmy Page called. He wants his riff back.
The 90's called. They want their jokebook back.
TheAlabasterdeplume Have you ever heard Montrose . The album this song came from is from 1973 with Ronnie Montrose on guitar . The only Zeppelin song I can think of that remotely resembles any thing heard here is from In My Time of Dying from 1975 . The intro to this song , which is probably played differently every night sounds a lot more like Aerosmith's Cheescake intro than anything by Zeppelin .
HotRodSixString Don't worry about it. It was just some non guitar player trying and failing to be funny.
+Boo Ninny aren't you a ray of sunshine
sith lord on guitar :)
Canyon rockers We only Know, hello My Daughter amy who just got married I love you,Orange county killss.
his slide guitar solo sounds the same as stormy mayday bye ac/dc black ice!!! figure out!!
Sammy again demonstrates why he's 10x the rock star Eddie Van Whatshisname is.
Do a search for "EVH Eddie Van Halen - Im The One *GUITAR TRACK*" . Back in 1978, he did both rhythm and solos on the same track. No punch ins nor overdubs. No one does that, well except for Eddie. I bet Satriani does dozens of punch ins on each song he records on, and theyre still pale in comparison to Eddie's stuff. Satch is good. But Eddie is a legend.
What Wolfie needs to do is form his own band.....
What i cant understand is ronnie montrose plays bad moter scooter on midnight special some 40 years ago, and left the slide beginning out , the sound of changing gears on motorcycle he did not, insted started off C chord 1 2 3 4 count from drums kicked off beginning , big time dissapointment for everyone then im sure, thats almost but not quite as bad as (the sweet) leaving out the middle section of' 'love is like oxegen' peacful piano and acoustic melody climax into mahogany rush chains of space tone hiting mach one blasting off heavens into tar pitch black space , A pcp race on elephant tranquillizer waste
they look like they just got off shift at gm
was that Zeppelins " in my time of dying " ?
Chad smith and Will Ferrell relatives? Damn they look alike!
Say what you want about Sammy Hagar, but I hope I look as good as him when I'm in my 60s.
is it my time of dying
by* sorry for the mistake
You sound like you have a chip on your shoulder. We all know what Eddie has accomplished. Just enjoy the kickass Chickenfoot video! lol
MAY THE DINOSAURS FOREVER RULE THE EARTH!
2:13 Muhammed Anhony .-)
sammy allways played this on lap steel and the studo version doesn't compare to the live one from sammy hager all night long with guitar battle from 1978 79 some where in there..it is sammy's song he can do with it what he wants. and you souldn't have bit on jimmyt's crap about eddie and joe. they are both very good at what they do..be happy life is short
am sry to all the eddie fans out there.. but Joe kicks ass... better than eddie could ever think of doing....
LOL
That's interesting to think about. In my opinion when hagar joined van halen his guitar playing got even more generic than whats playing here. It was very organic with Roth though.
This is my opinion. Chickenfoot is technically better, vocals, guitar, and bass wise. But Van Halen has the legend status, and put(s) better music out than Chickenfoot. Both bands kick ass. I love both of them.
Okay...strum and drang, but its cool IMO..
Van WHO?
No!!! Just Voldemort w/ nose :)
Sammy and Joe jamming together was EPIC, but Sammy's playing has lost its touch. Joe's a top of ball player and just smokes this, but back in the day Sammy played a lot better then he looked he could. Awesome still
