Gardening at Douentza Thanks Rachel, I think you might have had a bugged one, maybe you could try this again if you liked it, I didn't really fuss too much to make it bloom :)
Danny, what a wonderful video! I really enjoyed that description, your thoughtfulness and detail in describing the odor/fragrance of the plant, your careful editing, and so on. A+, seriously. I hope you are at the heels of making some kind of magical orchid empire online and we're just here to witness it! ALSO - just saying, but don't you think you should use your channel as a platform to form an orchid society in your area? You said there were none, and someone always has to start these sorts of things! :)
***** ow wow thanks so much dear :) well yeah my channel and site are my little empire but not in the true sense of the word lol they're my babies but you know, I do wish I get to gather together orchid lovers and hope we can make something great in the orchid world, not sure in what form or shape but just, some good memories and a little place in history :P about the orchid society... we're really not that many people and the ones who are don't necessarily have the time to involve themselves in something like this, I bet the orchid societies in the USA are managed full time :) plus I will most probably not be here anymore starting next year so.. I did think about it but really I'm not sure if I am the right person for the job, there has been an attempt by an old orchid expert here, I contacted him and he gave up due to lack of interest and involvement from people and he is just growing them for the hobby now that he is retired, he won a lot of prizes with his orchids in the 90's though :) so since then no one was interested in this society, you can imagine things didn't change all that much sadly..
***** yah it's getting pretty official now, gonna move in with my bf in his country.. he's sweet he already planned the grow room :)))) the problem will be to send out all my orchids.. and pc.. but we shall manage somehow :P
It took me several years, however just last week I found out my cities Orchid Society was having a sale... I found one, with 7 mature bulbs and two new growths starting. She is very beautiful and already one of my favorites. I cannot wait till she blooms.
I found a grower near me (as in walking distance!) that has these. Came to this channel to get more input on them if I would be able to manage it in my home environment. I’m going to contact them to give this species a try after watching the care video. Wish me luck.
WOW! absolutely exquisite, so so beautiful :-) I have never seen anything like it before, Thanks so much for sharing this beauty with us Danni :-) XXXX
Hi Danni: love this video! I saw this plant on eBay and have placed a bid. so far I'm the only bidder with one day to go. I hope I get this orchid for my collection. take care!
it is a division with one new growth. the final price was $12.00 plus $9.00 for shipping. I've had it for about a week and its growing quite fast. I can't wait for when it blooms. I watched your tutorial on how to pot up with sphagnum moss. wow, thanks for that! I learned something new today. Thank you! J
Bulbophylum flowers looks so badass to me lol. This flower reminds me of something terrestrial with how it looks. I've never really seen one close up on video like that, and your camera catches all the detail! It is magnificent :)
Rosanna Rodarte oh you should see it in real life, on camera I cannot catch the dimensions and.. well all the 3D aspects, really worth it and the orchid is tiny and space saving :D
Hi Danni! Wonderful video for a wonderful orchid! I felt in love with bulbophyllums just in april but i collected a few,and they are doing great. Since we have quite same environment I can suggest you some bulbophyllums that are easy to grow in the house. I've got the lobbii, that is my first bulbophyllum and i love him! But is such a big boy, so you need some space to keep it. I've also the macranthum, the sulawesii, the bicolor, the lasiochilum and the echinolabium. All these are small plants and some of them are mounted. I'm sure i'll take the Elizabeth Ann Buckleberry because is very beautiful and particular!!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us!
Please note the scent of this orchid is that of fish. A dead trout. Once people hear this, the confusion as to what is the scent of this orchid becomes apparent. GORGEOUS video!
When mounting, use sphagnum or bare root? I have moss over and under the roots but I’m wondering if my misting is only wetting the moss and not getting to roots. Do the Bulbophyllum roots uptake water quickly if exposed? I could increase my automated misting.

Hi Danni! Such a wonderful video! I'm pretty sure you should apply to be David Attenborough's assistant!
***** well that's exactly what it smells like, not freshly cut grass but just.. leaves :P vegetation.. smells like a plant lol but it does smell :) the music is from the youtube create library, if you go to your channel manager in the create section you'll find all sorts of music, this one is called Calm I think
I love mine don't know how I how I got t to bloom first one of mine to bloom. Any ideas for DIY hanging basket that doesn't pull from its beauty? How did you get yours to bloom.
Guillermo Bustamante maybe a wooden basket would be better, I will switch to one next year :) well I'll make a care video, really I didn;t do anything special just made sure it is always moist :)
I just got my first 4 Bulbophyllums and is very excited about them even though I do not know much about them. I am looking forward to your care video. Any pointers for growing Stanhopeas?
Catharina Bezuidenhout I am new to stanhopeas as well so all I know is what I read, not too much personal experience with them yet :) here is a good start www.aos.org/Default.aspx?id=205
Just a lovely flower. I have Lovely Elizabeth, which is similar to this one. I am still in love with my Bulbo medusae, too. Have you seen my video of it?
Hey Danny, i was looking on ebay and i found 5 of these orchids available, in your opinion is $45 worth is for any orchid? (This one has 25+ growth or so they say).
Alex Winn well it depends on you and how much you want to spend on an orchid, as you see mine has 4 psb and I paid around 15 euros for it. So if the seller is trustworthy maybe it's worth it, if it's a big plant :) but depends only on you :)
Nice video..i just received a nice division of this same plant not knowing what it was..but i do know that Bulbos have very unique flowers and so i was excited since it is a large size already..maybe 12 pseudobulbs...i have mine mounted and placed it close to my southwestern window...is there any other cultural advice you can give me since having seen your flower i am going to be extra careful that i provide it with the correct requirements..but again..thanks for sharing and shedding a light on what i can hopefully look forward to achieving
TD Moore congrats on your new orchid :) well they really are not very picky, but they do like to stay more moist rather than dry. I don't let mine dry out too much. Other than that they like bright light, but don't necessarily need direct sun, maybe a few hours per day when the sun is not hot. Other than that they are very temperature tolerant and just a joy to grow. Just make sure you water in time :)
Thanks so much....i will do my best to keep it moist since it is on a mount...it's on a tree fern mount...would you recommend adding a little spagnum moss? or is the mount with daily misting enough?
Hi Danny. Ok, so I can't think of the name of the movies (there's 3 or 4) but this reminds me of the octopus man on Pirates or the carribean? So funny, if someone knows the name for sure you can look it up. haha You get Robert's comment a lot don't you? (I'm also surprised you didn't say it looked like Jackie sitting there in the orchid)
Burr Nelson oh you mean the undead pirate from The Pirates of the Caribbean ahahahaha ow my he was not a pretty dude :)) I think the cochleata looks like him more hehehehe
Moshy Rojas yes I have one Cymbidium but they are too big for my small growing space, plus they need pretty much garden conditions and I cannot provide them, so I don't buy Cymbidiums usually :)
It is a beautiful flower… I won’t mind if it is smell foul… just put her with other fragrant orchid together would solve the problem…The question is where should I find this orchid?
Wesley Leng hahaha good point :P you can find it on online orchid stores, depending on your territory :) I am from Europe and I ordered this one from Schwerter Orchideenzuch, it was a year and a half ago not sure if they have it still but they might bring it back :D they have other bulbos too
MissOrchidGirl Oh, well, it might be a lil bit difficult for me that I live in Australia. It is hardly possible to bring outside plants into Australia due to the custom rules… :(
+MissOrchidGirl Hi, Dani… I found one called bulbophyllum longissimum, which it looks alike ur one… I’m just curious that how long will bulbophyllum pseudobulb take to grow from beginning to mature?
+Wesley Leng the longissimum is one of the parents of this one :) well it takes a few months or so, he is not a slow grower but sometimes it can take a bit to initiate a bulb
the orchid is beautiful and so is your presentation..6 and half minutes of my time wisely spent...thank you, Danny
+Batang Palilo glad you enjoyed this video :D
Super video again and wow at the bloom!!! Congratulations on getting this to bloom!
Gardening at Douentza Thanks Rachel, I think you might have had a bugged one, maybe you could try this again if you liked it, I didn't really fuss too much to make it bloom :)

aww bummer. I did catch hints that you would be moving at some point! exciting!
***** yah it's getting pretty official now, gonna move in with my bf in his country.. he's sweet he already planned the grow room :)))) the problem will be to send out all my orchids.. and pc.. but we shall manage somehow :P
smuggle all the orchids. just hide them in a big pair of sweatpants. you are tiny so there will be plenty of room.
***** hahahaha I could but think I'll go for the courier, it's in the EU so hopefully it won;t be a problem :P
great video about this Bulbophyllum. I like that Bulbophyllum
It took me several years, however just last week I found out my cities Orchid Society was having a sale... I found one, with 7 mature bulbs and two new growths starting. She is very beautiful and already one of my favorites. I cannot wait till she blooms.
Oh yes please get some more bulbophyllums.
What a beauty!!!
John John well I have 2 more, the medusae and barbigerum, plus 2 that are struggling to survive.. hope they make it though

draco003 I think you should, you never know :D
I found a grower near me (as in walking distance!) that has these. Came to this channel to get more input on them if I would be able to manage it in my home environment. I’m going to contact them to give this species a try after watching the care video. Wish me luck.

Great video Dani! Keep up the good work! xxx Vicky, Greece
Vicky Smiles Thanks Vicky! :D
Hi Danny :), the other day I found some fertilizer sticks that are placed on the substrate ... what you think of it ?? you think that burn the roots??
Vitor Marques I personally don't like the sticks, I cannot control the release plus I had some burned roots a while ago. I don;t know I am not a fan
Please note the scent of this orchid is that of fish. A dead trout. Once people hear this, the confusion as to what is the scent of this orchid becomes apparent. GORGEOUS video!
+onceIhadalove Hi, mine doesn't smell like fish, just greenery :) I know some can have a horrible smell :P
I'm interested in getting one of these. They're often at my orchid society for like 20 dollars.
Moshy Rojas yes they are not overly pricey, I think you should try one :D will make a care video soon!
When mounting, use sphagnum or bare root? I have moss over and under the roots but I’m wondering if my misting is only wetting the moss and not getting to roots. Do the Bulbophyllum roots uptake water quickly if exposed? I could increase my automated misting.
