    thanks for the video, I love this beauty so much, the first time it bloomed I was breathless. as for the pots, it is much easier if you get a diamond cup drill and make the holes under water. 5 minutes and you have your pots pierced.

    Good to hear so eone using mycorrhizal fungi with otchids. I wasn't sure all the flushing we do would wash away all the goid stuff.

    Matthew, this (and your other video's) are becoming a great resource to fall back on.
    On Thursday I dropped into Collectors Corner for a quick scout around.
    Luckily they have started to fill their depleted stock and I discovered a tray Cirrhopetalum "Elizabeth Anne Buckelberry" seedlings.
    I had remembered the name but not the Genus and after searching for your video and a google search discovered that they are the same....wow how lucky can I be.
    If anyone else is interested there was a tray of seedlings amongst many others (they also had a try of Slipppers, I'm nearly tempted but I restrained myself...., it's well worth a trip as the orchid display was overflowing on Thursday with many different species seedlings.

    I watched this video when you first put it out and just rewatched it now, trying to glean as much information as I can about bulbos! I have a few but none are willing to do anything for me. I actually was just about to blame it on Melbourne weather until I saw your gorgeous flowers! Now I have no excuse 😖
    I am still completely in awe that you managed to flower this plant. Sooooo impressive 😮 Well done and love the video as usual!

      Oh thank you! So happens since I made this video I was at an orchid meeting and someone had a specimen of this plant in bloom but had it planted in the shallowest wide bowl, almost like a giant saucer, no more than 3cm - 1" - deep! A revelation! The rhizome runs over the surface and has VERY shallow roots so a broad shallow vessel will be ideal. I now realise mine is potted in too deep a pot. Still, it's happy and it bloomed but in spring I'll re-pot it into a shallow Bonsai dish. I think if you don't have a greenhouse and/or a humidifier just try to find ones that are Himalayan higher altitude species or hybrids from those. I'm also trying Bulbophyllum tigridum which, though a warm grower, seems very happy in an East facing window. Good luck!

      @@helloplantlovers Matthew thank you so much for this info! How interesting about the shallow dish, I might give them a shot in bonzai pots and see how they fare. 3cm seems mad shallow but hey whatever works! Will be looking for Himalayan hybrids too, that's great advice👌
      Can wait to see how your tigridum goes!

    Love the video and channel! could you tell me how long the bloom lasted? I love the look of Bulbophyllum but have been looking for one with a nice long-lasting flower. As far as I have read, they seem to last only a few days, lovely still but was curious how long this one lasted. Thank you friend!

    Hello, this is an amazingly beautiful orchid!!! I have a question, I love fragrant flowers and I know some Bulbophyllums are nicely fragrant (some others are quite foul smelling instead), however descriptions of the fragrance in this genus is not easy to find... could you please let me know if the book you show "Bulbophyllums and their allies" provides a description of the fragrance of the different species / hybrids mentioned in the book?

      Hi there - I couldn't say as I don't grow anything mounted - it's too hard for me to keep them moist in my dryer hot climate. So it would depend on your conditions. They can do well grown either way.

    • @helloplantlovers
      @helloplantlovers  Год назад

      Hmmm I'm not an expert, but I'd say very few orchids can be propagated from just one bulb, Cymbidiums being an obvious exception. The bulbophyllum divisions I've ever had are at least three bulbs. Good luck!
