hi and happy new year. does stunning surprise 2 devastate the hero on the plot level, because something happens that ruins the plan/outer adventure level plot? or are they devastated on the inner journey level, because something happened that hit really close to home?
I admire and love this man. A consummate teacher to whom I owe a debt of gratitude (even though I might never write or write anything of consequence). I hope that others appreciate him as much as I do, and give him the opportunities to use his talent and pass his knowledge to as many people as he wants to.
I think you should also make it clear that a reversal is a reversal of their WHOLE world view. e.g In Ratatouille, Remy faces the harsh reality that although he is a great cook... in the human world, he is just a rat... and thus despised by humans and typically never allowed in the kitchen. At the midpoint it's seemingly impossible for him to reach his goal. From Remy's internal / SUBJECTIVITY point of view - he was a famous chef.thus he NEEDS to take on some OBJECTIVITY in the next phase of the journey. It is this perspective shift that is the shock... not any plot point.

Great point! You just put flesh on the bones of my story's "je nais se quoi"......
Can I submit my screenplay anywhere for a review of the story and acts?
Gary Tao saw your comment two years late but if you haven't figured it out yet just Google screenplay coverage.
Thaaaaanks for this
