    Sometimes Howard Keel was awkward as an actor, and one could tell that he was a singer-turned-actor. But at times, he really excelled. He was good at putting fear into the heart of J.R. Ewing. He was one of the few people who could do it. He did it in this scene, and he did it when he told J.R. that the price of oil was going down and he was sitting on millions of barrels of oil. His delivery here and in that former scene were perfect.

    It didn't make sense that JR was such a master strategist and yet he routinely antagonized people that could do him serious harm. I guess you could argue that the JR character's insecurities overwhelmed his intelligence but still, it seems like such a smart guy would learn his lesson at some point.
    Having said that, Hagman and, especially, Keel both do a great job here.

    • @laminage
      @laminage 6 лет назад +4

      In my own way I felt kind of sorry for Jenilee Harrison. She comes in replacing Suzanne Somers whose firing from Three's Company was the "ugliest" in terms of TV at the time. Then she plays Jamie Ewing the "outcast" relative. Some Family Members don't click. Vicky Brandon on Guiding Light, then Dennis Parlato briefly replaced Michael Zaslow as Roger Thorpe on Guiding Light. As for what JR said to Clayton about Ewing's Business, he's right to a degree. When you are the Second Wife/Husband of someone, you are tolerated, but never fully accepted.

    Although I liked Jennilee Harrison. I always thought the character of Jamie Ewing was irritating and annoying. Donna Reed was a fine actress but she was too weak for a role that was pretty much set in stone by Barbara Bel Geddes who was by far a much stronger actress for this role. I really liked Howard Keels acting. He was a class act.

    • @CaptainSpalding72

    • @redletter2008
      @redletter2008 6 лет назад +8

      Harrison was a bad choice to portray this role. She was fine on Three's Company. Jamie reminded me too much of Pam - always whining, nagging, lecturing and acting morally superior to everyone else. Oh, and don't forget, she was an oil industry "expert" because she worked with daddy on an oil lease in Alaska. Then she "conveniently" (like Pam with Wentworth Industries & Wentworth Tool & Die) had 10% of a $2 billion company handed to her.

    • @laminage
      @laminage 6 лет назад +4

      Jennilee Harrison meant well but to go from Comedy to Drama isn't as easy as it looks. She even knew that she couldn't fill Suzanne Somers Shoes. She's done well as a Fitness Mogul. At that time, the show lost so much pizazz. It kind of reminds me of when they bring in new folks to an established Show. Cousin Oliver, The Brady Bunch, Cousin Pam, The Cosby Show, Jeremy The Foster Child on Eight Is Enough. I think without realizing it, JR was subconsciously punishing Jennilee through Jason or even Lucy through Gary & Valene. I wished Valene could have talked to Jamie and told her how rough she had it as Gary's Wife back in the day.

    I’m trying to figure out how Jamie went from a rough-n-tumble looking chick with no makeup, telling Sue Ellen one day that shopping and makeup, dressing like a “Ewing” and working a receptionist job isn’t her thing. Yet not a full year later, she’s married with a big rock on her hand, full makeup AND dressing like a “Ewing” as Cliff’s chipper and naive wife. My my...how time definitely speeds up on this show😂

    When I think of Barbara Bel Geddes As Miss Ellie #1 and Donna Reed as Miss Ellie #2 it reminds me of The UK Soap Opera EastEnders. In the 1990's Daniella Westbrook played Samantha "Sam" Mitchell #1, and then Kim Medcalfe played Sam Mitchell #2. Kim tried but she couldn't hold a candle to Daniella. Sadly enough Daniella is battling Cancer so she may not be able to come back.

      grecosgreece daz the reason Dallas was the outrageous hit it was, was because of the original actors who portrayed the characters.. Any Dallas remake from now on will never succeed and a huge waste of money. Any copy, would always be tenth rate. Dolly and Kenny couldn’t play those parts. Hell, Meryl Streep couldn’t succeed.. The reboot died the minute it aired and was buried, the minute Larry Hagman/JR Ewing died!
