First thing i felt was lack of power at the get go, but top end, was amazing, 70+mph door to door with my buddys srt8 charger (6.1). I did eventually up the pipe size from cat back to 2.5" and added spintec pro street 6000 mufflers, that made a world of difference on the 0-60. Mpgs gained anout 5 in the city, 6 hwy to 26, loved it. After my exhuast i went with an aem brute force ram air intake with diablo dcx tuner, and now have swapped my 2.65 rear diff for a mopar rear diff with 3.92 gear, and srt8 axles. If you plan anything big, definatly look into a gear change, im pretty sure youve got 2.65 as well.
Thinking of buying an 07 Charger r/t 5.7L HEMI V8. Has 90k miles i'm curious with an upgraded exhaust and new air filters how many miles could this car realistically handle? I don't want it to blow up and have to pay 10k at 150k. I will flex it but mostly drive on the highways. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Random Videos You would actually lose torque in the low end of the spectrum such as 1-2k RPM's but that can be fixed with a high stall converter. And if you really want to make it meaner throw some 3.92 or as an overkill 4.10 gears and that thing will SCREAM and it won't lose torque off the start thanks to the high stall converter. I feel sorry for who you race though cause if you don't beat them you'll certainly freak them out with this set-up lol.
The problem with these hemis as they like to scavenge,if you straight pipe them you're going to lose a ton of torque they're not like a Chevy where you could put a big 3 inch straight pipe exhaust on it and it would more power down....
Not a smart idea Straight piping cars removes any back pressure that the car gets This can burn up youre heads and you can eventually blow a rod through the hood or blow a piston
Leave the cat alone. I would say remove resonators and look into sport mufflers. Any cat back system would be good so you'll keep back pressure and still be able to pass emissions if you have testing.
Alex Brick what the hell is all this talk about back pressure, an engine does not need pressure in the exhaust in fact it needs to have a scavenging effect, this creates a vacuum which helps pull the exhaust out. I have never heard of a motor overheating because it has less exhaust in the pipes, in fact you should shove a potato in your exhaust pipe and tell me what happens when it builds back pressure. Is that a picture of a ford? now it all makes sense.

That's funny, the only V6 mustang that's ever beat me was one with a turbo, traction bar and stripped out to save wieght so no suprise there as I've got too much mass in a Charger to catch up how ever only the 2011 GTs and up have been able to beat me and that's becasue of a speedlimiter issue which the GTs don't have.

Carburetor systems need back pressure.. Also, the cat provides more than enough back pressure. And then there's the factor of pipe diameter. The cooler exhaust that's further down the pipe after the cat can cause a little back pressure too.
+orasis Very good! I did not say cars still use them. It was simply for example. That is why backpressure doesn't matter as much anymore. The only ill effect is a loss of a few mpg because the ecu of a fuel injected vehicle will adapt for the difference

Replace the cat with a pipe take out the muffler and replace that with a pipe and resonator with a pipe and your going it have one bad ass charger
