  • RUclips closed captions.
Many riders around the world speak little or no English. Something like 70% of RUclips views come from non-english speaking countries.
Closed captions can be turned on or off by the viewer and translated into some 300 languages. It has to be helpful surely for riders all over the World. :-)

Being hard of hearing doesn't help in my case so sometimes the captions work well. RSM8

Looks like the same settings in Kent where me and my Coach Mungo go to, to practice from time to time and improve on my positioning, scanning, layout, observation that alludes to use of mirrors, blind spots, controls, speed and meeting oncoming vehicles . As a student, practice on this type of country roads improves the skills on urban road...putting all the functions together, adding fluidity. You can tell this student has come through your system, instead of one of those students that comes 1 or 2 lessons and go for a test. I wouldn't even call them students. Respect

My opinion is everyone else has a funny accent and is short...
But, yeah people struggle to understand NornIron so I reckon the subtitles are a good idea. They could be a little bigger maybe?

***** it depends on the device you're using apparently.
I watched the video on an android phone and the captions were tiny (but legible) whilst on a PC they were very big.
There are options to change the font, size, etc for the viewer it seems.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I think the time investment of adding all the subtitles may drive you round the bend! (See what I did there.....)

I don't need the subtitles for you myself mate, but I'm sure they'd be handy for some of the overseas viewers. You have to watch those subtitles though, they can play tricks on ya! Or maybe it just picks on Georgies. ;o)
    Nice one mate.

Rob Ash I've been using the translate button in the CC on the player toolbar to check different languages and this option seems to work fine. :-)

Voice is understandable. If you mean going thorough hassle adding individual subtitles then I say no no need no worth it. But if you mean adding RUclips's own subtitles then yeah go for it who ever needs or wants to!
By the way which gloves you got? They look like an upgraded version of mine..

Yes I'm talking about RUclips's *closed captions* option. Since some people around the world speak little or no English (apparently something like 70% of RUclips views come from non-english speaking countries) and even some English speakers struggle to keep up with the Northern Irish accent I wonder if it may be a good idea to reach out to riders in other areas who don't have the same training standards we do here in the UK.
The closed captions that can be turned on or off by the viewer and translated into some 300 languages. It has to be helpful surely?
They're RST gloves by the way. :-)

I can understand you perfectly well and you have a marvellous Northern Irish accent. :)

Thanks Hepcat Harley. I'm thinking more of those who don't speak English at all. Apparently RUclips offers a closed caption translation service so anyone watching should still learn the info. :-)

      Haha.
Actually I've seen some hilarious translations from the RUclips subtitle utility. It seams to have trouble with my accent for some reason, can't quite understand why myself. Haha.

this is exactly what I'm talking about thanks for bringing that up! :-)
The standard captions that are automatically translated are rubbish! This has the benefit of *actually making sense* to non-English speaking viewers.

I like captions because, sometimes, even when people are speaking English, you might miss something they said. But like Hoary said, you might miss what's going on in the vid and some people might not be able to read very fast. I'm a quick reader so it's easy-peasy.

WheelsNotHeels thanks WNH. It is more for non-English speakers and deaf people. Tell me you saw the captions on the vid? They're supposed to come up automatically! :-)

WheelsNotHeels glad to hear it. Been messing around with different language settings and they seem to work OK so far.
Time to make some more vids to help riders :-)

I can understand you perfectly with no trouble at all so I don't think subtitles are needed, but if you have a majority of people watching who struggle then it's up to you :)

Bex88 thanks Bex I appreciate the feedback. I used the word 'subtitles' incorrectly. D'oh! My bad. :-P
According to RUclips it is 'closed captions'. This isn't the usual auto-translate that spews out nonsense no-one understands but a pretty accurate translation of what I'm saying into many, many languages that anyone the World over can benefit from. It can be turned on and off as well it seems.
Here's hoping it helps riders who don't speak English and haven't been lucky enough to pass their motorcycle test here. :-)
