Thanks for the video! One comment about MANPAD (10:06) - it is a defense system, not the system itself - may be fitted if the airplane is expected to go into war or terror zone. It will use IR laser in a case they are a target to blind and confuse the missile, typically only active when landing or taking off. I have checked online and MD-11s were actually a test and then deployment platform for Northrop Guardian, so the modeling seems to be accurate 😀.

Does FEDEX not have on some of their MD-11Fs the MANPAD defense system, as they fly also for the USAF?

Interesting thing is that Northrop reported very high level of success defending airplanes in tests, but still MANPADS are devastating for low flying planes in Ukraine. Interesting …
Some airliners have them too, El Al, Israir… normal operation during takeoff and landing
I remember when I first played the PMDG MD-11 from FS2004. My last flight with it was in Guam and the monitor of my laptop gave up. Didn't finish the flight. Hopefully, I get to finish it here when I get this aircraft.

But PMDG seems to have problems with Win10.
The PMDG MD11 is the best aircraft addon in FS9.
Would love flying this alongside the PMDG 777F, especially excited for the freighter. I just hope they get the basic systems and autoflight right at launch. I wish PMDG also launched the freighter alongside the -300ER!
This is pretty exciting! Now, all we need is a 767 (and maybe a 757) then we can do full FedEx Ops.
I never gotten the Maddog, mainly because of its pricing and the fact that the textures and sounds are way too out of date, but this seems like a more compelling offering as a McDonnell Douglas aircraft for MSFS.
I'd LOVE a good 757 or 767. Who knows, maybe BlueBird will make one after their 757. It does seem promising for sure!
@@A330Driver they did actually confirm they're working on a 767 in the background and will go all-in once the 757 is released. In a recent dev update they talked about a sound recording/reference picture taking session they had with a real 767
I am excited for the MD-11! I completely missed out on PMDG MD-11 for FSX, still bummed I missed that era, nevertheless I am excited for the MD-11, my favorite trijet, I miss seeing passengers MD-11 at LAX.
You are the only person I consider impartial when it comes to 3rd party aircraft reviews. Thank you. Too many others hesitate to be critical or point out any negative (not that the tdfi md-11 has any!)

Not a plane I’m personally interested in but I know a lot of other fsimmers who will love getting a high quality MD-11. One of the best things with MSFS you get a great choice of civil aircraft to suit everyone. Good job by the developers looks impressive. Thx for video.
Hi, you can use the setting "Hardware override" option in the EFB, this should fix the accidental tiny touch/movement on your hardware peripheral from disconnecting the autopilot.
Your ground scenery in flight looks amazing, ultra crispy. Are you using any addons like map enhancement or a high TLOD etc? Nice video as usual also.
It will be a nice addition when released fully.

PS. The MANPADS defense was added to some US Cargo carriers after the 2003 DHL incident in Baghdad.

33:49 Hi Emmanuel. I believe if you start the APU from the electrical panel instead of the APU panel then you get the automatic shutdown when the APU bleed is turned off.

Nice video as always, I hope the developers fix the sound effects, the take-off sounds were not as your typical CF-6 engines, and the way the sound changes when you look either right or left is quite weird, anyway i'm confident the release version will be awesome
Those effects were introduced with SU15 if I'm not mistaken, many planes seem to have them nowadays. I think it's for Asobo to fix those.
I hope you figured out you have to use the mouse wheel and roll over top of it to get it to arm.
Hi, that was a very in depth video. You have a really great system, I am still struggling with FSX and an old i3 system. Although that does mean I have been able to fly my PMDG MD11 for many years...............Glad you managed to sort the "speed brakes arm" before your takeoff. I recall from the PMDG aircraft that the speed on approach drops automatically when you deploy the flaps as the speed tape passes the flap setting speed indicated.............Also I remember the APU start/stop working by pressing APU/AIR on the overhead which automatically starts/stops it. A really great plane the MD11 though, well I think it is. All the very best Dave.
a bit off topic. If you struggle with an old system and using FSX, consider to go to MSFS. On my old system it performed better than fsx. Don't know if MSFS 2024 will be the same.
Shift+/ to arm speedbrakes works for me. Mouse wheel is what seems to control them. But I wish the spoiler click was more intuitive. Should be like left click deploys spoiler, right click retracts.
Sometimes you need to bring cargo to dangerous places, so manpad DEFENSE is a plus!😂

You can use your Sroll Wheel to arm the Speed Break :)

I must admit I am airbus fan but if there is another aircraft that I have always loved is the md11. Wished there was a max/neo variant with updated fuselage with lighter materials like new planes.
welp MD11 is kinda like airbus tbh, since MD was working with airbus at the time and trying to develop their own fbw system, both MD11 and modern airbus has very automated system; it is very interesting that MD11 and airbus has many things in common(expect the MD11 is not fbw)
@@yunjinbai4640 yeah I agree, it has boeing elements to it as well in terms of the flight dynamics. MD tried to have the best of both worlds. Really a unique plane, a real shame it's at the end of its life cycle.

My favorite plane is the 310 just because it's old school and new, I love the older plane cockpits. I thought this plane would be more analog but mostly glass cockpit. I still think I want it because I flew on one when 13 yrs old.
The MD-11 is probably one of the most advanced aircraft, considering the types we have available in the sim right now.
It's definitely more advanced than an A320 or B737. Real world that is LOL
MD-11 was released in 1996. You may be thinking of the DC-10, much more analog :)

@@TheMrdhyde We need a DC-10 too. They’re so cool. A team called Aero Dynamics is working on a freeware DC-10. The modeling looks awesome but who knows when the plane will release.
If it wasnt for videos like this, we wouldn’t get any real information on progress. Im on their discord, but they dont share much. It was my first, and last, time for purchasing an unfinished and unreleased product. Isnt worth the risk to me moving forward. There is just too much that can go wrong prior to a release.

DH 200 100 50 etc. Would be nice to know the different capabilities between the 737 and A320 for example. What could be the differences between some operators if you are aware of.

Seems like the pitch axis is a bit twitchy like most msfs aircraft, but overall good quality.
That's actually realistic. The MD-11 is known for being very pitch-sensitive, especially in cruise. It was that very characteristic that led to the in-flight upset of China Eastern Flight 583. An initial pitch-up cause by the slats unintentionally deploying was turned into some very violent and sudden oscillations by the crew over-correcting multiple times.
This was reduced by updates to LSAS. It's no longer nearly as twitchy due to damping of the relaxed stability by washed out pitch rate.
A user on the discord brought their yoke sensitivity to -60 I think, and it helped dampen it.

Wasn't it actually weight dependant? Below a certain LW they could land there and above it not?
@@A330Driver No, the A380, 747 and the MD-11 are not allowed to land there. The A340-600 is allowed to land there though :D

are they going to rework the sounds? all the dials bugs switched and gpws sounds, seems like they've been recorded in a small room, like it doesnt feel like the sounds comes from a cockpit, same for the engine sounds when you turn your head seems a bit exaggerated

Are you using any program like Lossless Scaling or Auto FPS? MSFS settings are all Ultra?

I have noticed some sid's and star's take you many miles (off course) kinda adding a lot of time to flight. It is a sim so I go direct also sometimes.
In the real world you often get shortcuts as well. Those SID and STARs usually make sense in real world context though, mostly due to either terrain or traffic. ATC will usually give you shortcuts as well though.
Hi Emi. When you imported the flightplan from Simbrief, didn't you file FL250. Could that have messed up the flightplan?
Seems like the plane has no inertia and is very responsive on slight control inputs. Please tell me if I'm wrong here? And does it support simrate?
I'll keep out of the inertia discussion, flight simmers often just have wrong expectations there. It is correct that it is very responsive to control inputs. In my opinion maybe a bit too much on the pitch axis, but I might be wrong there. For the rest of it, I'm fine with it. Planes are designed for their size, the A380 flies like a sports car in the end as well!

I had the TFDI 727 in FSX and I loved it. But it's just too expensive, I'm not willing to pay 80$. Both the Fenix (50$) and PMDG (35-70$ depending on variant) are significantly cheaper. The market is bigger now and pricing it at 80$ will scare me and probably many others off.
Hi Emmanuel, today i entered my simm and i compared the performance calculations from SimBrief Performance Calculator and the Fenix EFB and saw some considerable differences between them, could you speak about it and consider which of both are better to use, for me the distances which gives simbrief on the take off calculations are so valuable when considering which configuration to use for take off, what do you think about it?

@@carolebaskin138 At least it taxies like a 777 not like an MD-11 "Cessna Like" in Microsoft Flight Game "simulator". And it's clearly in Alpha, I'm not rushing, I'd better fly without VNAV in a real desktop simulator not a popular game with just eye candy visuals and a large community belittling others.

I'm afraid I can't really comment on that anymore, since I got my new computer my frames are fixed in place so I don't see a difference.

I have a question/suggestion, during the flare into touchdown, i noticed the trim was a bit off in a way as the nose was getting ready to pitch up from little joystick input. Now is it recommended to trim down, so you can have a much more pushback to avoid the nose raising up immediately or what do you recommend
I think it's more of a flight model thing here. Some MSFS planes have that tendency to raise the nose on their own, which usually is a bug in the flightmodel.
You should trim the plane so that it's in trim on final approach speed and configuration. Do not trim during the flare.
@@A330Driver thank you for the insight. i should have clarified more. since they try to match ‘real world’ physics closely, the clarity is, is it better to trim properly on final approach, for instance, to avoid the nose up problem during flare, is it better to trim down on final, so during flare, you don’t have to have that massive nose up during flare? like a counter effect situation
I think the real world MD11 also had a similar issue that made it very tricky to land especially at high gross weights. A simple Google search will lead to the PPRuNe forums where real world MD11 drivers have discussed it at length. I guess the LSAS underwent a lot of fine tuning right till the end of the MD11s service life with most major airlines.

Ce MD11 Pour P3Dv5.1 n'est pas fini, a éviter d'acheter maintenant, beaucoup de BUG inadmissible. Comme par exemple les roues ne tournent pas. Pas de push back aves shift+P.
Textures trop lourdes qui demande trop, et qui fait que ça retourne sous Windows 10, alors qu'avec tout les avions PMDG et les réglage au maxi pas de problème. Support inexistant.
This MD11 For P3Dv5.1 is not finished, avoid buying now, many unacceptable BUGs. Like for example the wheels don't turn. No push back with shift+P. Too heavy textures which require too much, and which makes it return to Windows 10, whereas with all the PMDG planes and the maximum settings no problem. Non-existent support.

I think they have bigger issues to work on than some randomization.

The sounds are still terrible compared to things like the Inibuilds A300, Fenix 320, JF 146 and F28. The rest is looking good though.
As far as I understand they are still work in progress though.

I don't know why they don't just segregate the post-1980s commercial airline stuff into its own spinoff and rename that "FMS Simulator."

Man I cannot believe the a$$holes on the threshold discord. I’m not sure why you receive so much hate but it’s actually extremely irritating. I get the impression that they’re all teenagers that are on a power trip and they seem to just have a vendetta against you. I saw a screenshot one of them posted on the server of your opinion on TFDI designs employees after how they’ve treated you. It really seems like the children in the threshold discord always resort to saying things like “he’s not fit to fly” or “I’m concerned about his mental health as a pilot”. I think it’s jealousy that you’re doing a job most of them can only dream of doing. However, if I were you I would be paying close attention to what they’re saying and I would honestly begin considering taking legal action against them because it has to stop. I no longer have use for “threshold” as all it is now is a place for thee most toxic people in the hobby to gather and bash people that they don’t like for the smallest most ridiculous reasons. And I have observed now on multiple occasions people in the threshold discord discussing which airline you might work for, and whether or not they should contact them and inform them of the things you say online.. (I think what you say online or how you handle things online in Flight Sims should have absolutely nothing to do with your real life job) yet these children don’t have the mental capacity to separate the 2. Reminds me of the kids who can’t play violent video games because they might try to reenact it in real life because their brains are under developed. I do think you should begin paying close attention to what they say in those discord servers, (especially Threshold) and consider taking legal action against them. I know how much $$ and work, stress goes into getting your pilots license so I couldn’t imagine having a group of selfish, entitled, “know it all” brats trying to find a way to have my license taken away. Just thought I would let you know. I personally would be going after them with legal consequences…
