I can't believe how I look for your videos. You are so CORNY in the good way. Hard work isn't an obstacle on the farm, driving a truck, vegetable farms. Only person that's going to the work is you. I love how you dance around anything that could go against the grain. I watched THE GRAPES OF WRATH and I thought of your grandparents that made a living on the same farm. Keep doing what doing, you'll win. Neal

I can't count the number of cords of wood I"v cut in my younger days. That's all we used to use for heat back in the day and I loved it. We were young, strong, and full of life and enjoyed every minute of it. load up the kid's in the back of the truck, throw in the chainsaws and a beer for after the work is done, and, go! What fun, what a life!
Pete, in every video you keep bringing up new things that you and Hillary do or have done, and I appreciate the way you treat your farm animals. A kind man always treats his animals well to the end.

The smell brings back childhood memories.
We used to mix coal in with our wood &.I really liked the smell of a coal burning..
But my mother hated the smell & the mess it made , so once my brother & I were big enough to get the firewood in , we stopped burning coal..
    Love the autumn .
The smell in the woods & it was also our hog butchering time..

Everything looks so beautiful on your farm. Sorry to hear about Carrie. Sounds like maybe that was unexpected and that you will tell us more about it soon. I hope her calf handles the transition well. I’m new to pigs but mine really love to till… as long as the ground is wet! We started having rain a few weeks ago and have had some really big storms here in Oregon. So my pigs have been very busy!! It’s currently snowing but not sticking. Very windy. When my brother recently visited my pigs for the first time… he was shocked there was no smell. They are out on pasture now with shelters because we don’t get your type of winter…. Not even close! So even the pens they spent the summer don’t smell. I am always happy to point that out to people who are accustomed to feed lots and CAFO farms. Same with my chickens and I hope the same with my Dexters. Congratulations on getting through the turkeys and approaching the quieter time of year. Thank you so much for your example and important opinions. And I love your book💚

I have to go clean my Gutters too!. but mine are a lot easier than yours, only in one corner of the house and its a ranch style so I can get the job done from my 8ft aluminum step ladder. which is fine by me, I'm pushing 80 so not looking forward to too much high ladder work. All though I did manage to get the star up on the chiminy, and that required the 20ft extention ladder. but it was an easy climb. so that job's done and we have our Christmas Star ready to go for the season. Pete , i'm sure there are mornings when you wake up and wish someone else would do all the work, sitting by the stove on a cold evening wishing someone else would go out and do the evening jobs. There is a lot to be said for what you have and have built and run on a daily basis an d i hope it never become mundane. While i understand the commitment. guaranteed there a loads watching your vids that would love to switch (including myself) and hopefully that make you appreciate more than ever what you have,

It appears that you and Thoreau have the same philosophy regarding using wood for heating: The closest I can find to the original quote by Thoreau is this paraphrasing in Walden (1854):
Every man looks at his wood-pile with a kind of affection. I love to have mine before my window, and the more chips the better to remind me of my pleasing work. I had an old axe which nobody claimed, with which by spells in winter days, on the sunny side of the house, I played about the stumps which I had got out of my bean-field. As my driver prophesied when I was plowing, they warmed me twice-once while I was splitting them, and again when they were on the fire, so that no fuel could give out more heat. 😀👍

I find your comments about the pigs bathroom interesting. Many years ago I would raise a couple of pigs to eat. They always pooped in one spot, but that is not where they lived. People say "dirty as a pig", but given the area and opportunity, a pig won't wade walk live in their own poop. They will poop in their bathroom and live elsewhere.
Enjoy your videos. Keep em up!!!

We have 6 kids and with most of them gone, some things are less work and some things are more. I used to have a chore board with their names and a list. I wish I’d started my RUclips channel when they were little, but I didn’t know…
