What's important in Martin's orchestral arrangements is that he followed the request from John Lennon to "not make it sound like Mantovani". During this time, loads of producers went for the lush sounds that Montovani and other orchestra leaders had made popular in easy listening music. Martin's arrangements retain an edge we associate with the Modernists that emerged after World War Two and that edge was great for expanding the vocabulary of rock and roll.
I think you're absolutely right in saying that George Martin changed the role of the music producer. He was also a collaborator. For instance, who can forget his piano solo in John's "In My Life" or the arrangement for Paul's Eleanor Rigby. That's just two examples of the multiple instances where he wasn't just a producer, but an active participant in what was being produced. I've read somewhere that The Beatles thought of him as "the master" at school, that he was there to teach them, and so he did. Martin was so smart to recognize the boys' talent, even if he put them through a wringer at first. And the beautiful thing about it is how much his pupils grew, in no small thanks to him. 😊 I'm so glad he lived such a long life that he was also able to see his son Giles follow brilliantly in his footsteps.
Loved hearing more about the amazing George M. It seems to me his approach and enthusiasm flipped a switch in Paul - opening his mind to the possibilities of the studio. I think John was interested in the studio for song enhancement but Paul fell in love with it and he and George Martin shared the same future vision.
I think the Beatles would have been very different if the Decca record company had given them a recording contract in 1962. Who at Decca would have been their producer if the deal had gone through? Would that person have seen the diamond in the rough in terms of talent the Beatles had? Would Ringo have ended up as their drummer? Would the Beatles be allowed to develop their songwriting abilities, or would that producer insist they perform songs written by other artists?
So true deep diving into an alternate universe. It’s one thing we will never know! When you look at so many events in the 10 years they were together there is like with all of us a butterfly effect! If this didn’t happen would this have. We will never know for sure!
George Martin was great for the Beatles as he had patience and didn't laugh at there ideas but also he shouldn't get to much credit as just look at every band he produced "Gerry and the pacemakers" for example
Not everyone worked well with Martin, but the same can be said of a good number of other geniuses in the biz. But where Martin succeeded, he succeeded very well and in ways that influenced many other producers.

Exactly so we’ll said thanks so much!

Beautifully said! He seemed to be an amazing person to all!
He wrote the arrangements down for the orchestra he didn't come up with the melody, Paul always told him how to do it
@@dondamon4669 I NEVER said he wrote the melodies!
Great job. A lot of photos here that I've not seen before.
Thank you!

Awe thanks and yes Paul had more of an appreciation too for all types of music which also made him mesh more with Martin I believe.
Reading his book, ‘All You Need Is Ears’ right now.

Without George Martin The Beatles would have been just another pop band.He never got enough credit, he was the 5th Beatle.
Yes so so true!
Back in 1963 I got the first two singles autographed by them (I can share photos if your interested)
@@dougkitsis that would be awesome!

Yes their story was perfect Brian Epstein and George could lay claim to the title
He didn't say publicly but at that time is when he was losing his hearing
That would be correct!
With the comedy and the music, George Martin had more sociological impact that anyone in the mid 20th C.
So true

I am not giving him all the credit but he enhanced them to a new level!

@@An_Economist_Plays definitely 👍🏻
Your getting to much wrong here to take seriously ie George Martin was not a experienced music producer which is quite a big thing to get wrong
That’s your opinion.
