From looking at this piece, the colour and the very fine grain, strongly points to Basswood. It's a great wood to carve, light, and easy to shape, even for beginners.
It brings the artistic vision to life in a way that allows you to see it in the round, and refine the design without wasting relatively expensive wood. You can also use plasticine to do the same thing.
Snyggt jobbat Christer..
Very nice work, Christer! Excellent technique with the gouges, as well.
Very fine work. Love the finish, very appropriate.
Amazing work, I just recently started carving, I can't help notice how sharp your tools are. Thanks for sharing

So kewl. I was wondering the whole time if you would sand it smooth or not. It turned out really great. Thanks for sharing.
It is not allowed to sand hand carved things. Carver is supposed to make plastic using only chisels
Could have been the original. Great skill. Thanks for sharing.
this shit is so raw nice job
Brilliant!!! thanks for sharing this. i want to learn the art of carving, mainly furniture and picture frames. Any suggested tools?
I really like the professional design I have the question of what kind of wood you use to work
From looking at this piece, the colour and the very fine grain, strongly points to Basswood. It's a great wood to carve, light, and easy to shape, even for beginners.
Piękne prace -super............
Excellent with the sound turned off.
Just a quick question. Why is it so vital to make the clay model first?
It brings the artistic vision to life in a way that allows you to see it in the round, and refine the design without wasting relatively expensive wood. You can also use plasticine to do the same thing.
Which kind of wood is that? It looks virtually grainless.
Lime wood aka Basswood.
