and we get so much with the base cost of the game that other games would absolutely make you pay for. after buying the game you have easy access to every map, monkey and hero, additional game modes, custom games, hero skins and like 95% of the cosmetics. stuff that you can pay for is optional and gives no advantage to players. they let everyone at least try the battle cat for free, and it's really not very powerful at all so you're not missing out if you don't buy it.
the monetization is not HORRID yet but it's starting to get uncomfortable with exclusive powers, fast track which was free in BTD5 having to be paid, it feels like the beginning of much more offensive monetizations
I mean, these and double money aren't really required, but they made it in a clever way: if you want to get easier time and collect monkeys/medals much faster - you can buy. A clever time saver :)
The core experience of the game is entirely free though. I can understand some complaints about exclusive powers but powers are rarely used in most runs. Things like fast track and double cash are luxuries, not at all necessary. Considering how much continuous content we get for a one time purchase and how it’s fully enjoyable without any further purchases, it’s perfectly reasonable to monetize these luxuries. They need money to keep the company going
A counterpoint, this is a freemium game where it really does feel like you can get everything available for monkey money in a reasonable amount of time - I understand Ninja Kiwi needs to make money somehow, and it really is a fun game.
The numbers "sound" exciting, but the result is only about a 15% popping power buff overall. Archmage was already shredding through blimp outer layers and leaking loads of ceramics. That hasn't changed. It remains a great tower if you have some potent cleanup.
Here's what I'll say. They keep putting out new maps, bug fixes, balances, paragons... And they sponsor content creators. Etc. and doing that costs money. I really don't mind monetization, even if it does seem excessive at times. Because it's a very wholesome community that I really don't think has bad intentions.
I never like to defend companies but of all the games I think this game deserves to get a bit more monetization. You don’t have to buy any of it. They deserve something for all the work they do tbh
I would agree but I paid for my game twice, once on android and another on Steam. I would've paid for a switch version a few years back too if they released one. My personal belief is that paid games should NOT have any microtransactions that blocks out any content. DLC is fine like double cash and fast track but having a microtransaction that blocks content in a paid game is just a no especially since they are temporary. At least DLC unlocks a whole new part of the game.
I personally think the additions to the shop are okay right now. Sure I think it would be good if like fast track was available for monkey money but it doesn't provide a real advantage. The Battle Cat is a power so its also not usable in "competitive" gamemodes, (The only powers I've ever used are like farmer and pool) and I think if it allows NK to put more resources into their games then I'm all for it.
My take is that, for a game which costs a quarter of triple a games, to have a bit of not very intruisive monetization, especially with the amount they've continued to upgrade and improve it, is totally fine. There is a line, and they've been moving towards it, but are still quite far away from it right now. Edit: Also congrats on being a father, that's so awesome
I was in San Clemente a few years back and there was this big black trash bag full of rotting salmon that someone just dumped and there was a blood trail going all the way down the road the next day I walked down and there was like 10 raccoons just going to town on them lol one of the nastiest smells I’ve ever smelt before rotting fish is no joke especially out in the hot sun for days lol
No they arent getting tooo greedy. They have an insanely dedicated team and they need to make money to pay those people. Also none of these are necessary to play the game or have fun. They cant even be used in CHIMPS and up being a deficit (fast track atleast) in bossing. Just as long as its only extra things and nothing broken or necessary I dont mind it
i genuinely think that even before this buff the archmage was the best tower in the entire game. Even the upgrades before it perfectly build into the absolute beast that is archmage. the ONLY thing holding it back is the obvious purple bloon.
Wait I was playing Wizard 101 and having this on my other monitor and I thought this whole time he was talking about his newborn putting dead decaying animals in her mouth ;w;
If you don’t like the monetized option just don’t buy it. I like that they’ve supported this game for years and I only paid a few dollars for it, but I know they need to make money from it to support those updates. I’ve never felt the need to put any money into it besides the purchase price which puts it miles ahead of comparable games.
Additions like fast track costing money is completely valid to me, I understand it was free in prior games but I still have no problem with it but something like a power shouldn't exclusively cost real money, if people wanna buy like a bundle where you get a bunch of new powers that's one thing but you should be able to use monkey money on them too
It's not a big deal it's a crossover thing they have to give royalties to maaters of the universe, so of course you can't get it for free. People not understanding business doesn't make them greedy
Me personally for the money, I'm fine with it. As long as it doesn't disrupt balance in the game horribly like having towers who are exclusive to purchase/maps etc. I think its fine as the game needs income from somewhere
Man, nk getting greedy with irl money is such a weird topic. On the one hand, they're better than 99% or companies right now. They aren't locking necessary stuff behind it. On the other hand, there's been a clear trend of nk adding more and more irl money only stuff into their game, that would be just nice to have, such as fast track, and I'm afraid if it keeps happening, nk might become just as bad as all the other companies. So ultimately? Yeah I'd say it's a bit of an issue. It's disappointing to see updates to a game I paid for being locked behind further pay walls
I'm fine with ninja kiwi selling things to unlock them, but they should then be purchasable for ingame money. So you could pay real money to unlock the battle cat, but then you have to gain them like any other power. Paying real money for a digital consumable is unacceptable.
The problem with it is that, when are we going to use battle cats when you already have a lot of monkey money for powers? Everything outside of chimps mode can be solved with the other powers, and nk is not gonna let you use it in certain events just like the other powers. Is it worth the 8 dollars? No. It is fair to say they deserve money for all the hard work they done? Sure. Outside of mk, heroes, hero skins, and other random purchases, I tend to refrain from using powers. Most people will do that and I have 270,000 monkey money with no real life money spent. Hell, if I had been more active, especially in events, I would have way more money than that. So my question to nk is this, when are you going to give more uses for monkey money? I remember back in btd5 you could get these specialty buildings that nerf one tower, but buff another.
in comparison to what other comapnys put out for purchase ninja kiwi is cheap. Its arguably way too cheap. dont let them know. dont let them start the lootboxes
They should have just made monkey money more valuable by giving it more uses. I'm sitting on a throne of monkey money just because I play the game every so often. I dont even play as much as most people, but I own every hero skin, every hero, and almost all the monkey knowledge. They should produce a lot of cosmetics (monkey skins, perhaps) that you can spend monkey money on. By giving monkey money a lot of uses, people will burn through it faster, and purchasing monkey money with real money will become more worthwhile. I respect them needing to monetize the game, but this reminds me a lot of Total War, where they're milking Total War Warhammer in an effort to make up for their various failed other projects. BTD6 is the cash cow for Ninja Kiwi. They keep producing mobile games that almost nobody sticks with, and then they waste a ton of time with continued support for those games. They need to be more consistent with designing fun games, and improve the in-game economy to better support those games naturally. Ninja Kiwi is trying to be the good guy by being generous with monkey money and not abandoning failed games. It's hurting the company and forcing them to sell content in their biggest game that they otherwise would have released for free.
NK has always been pretty 'bad" when it comes to microtransactions and locking content behind paywalls. BTD6 was actually more of a break from their norm than the other way around, and I think that had to do with it being the first game that was not free to play. Now that it's like 6 years old and has years of additional content tacked on, I can kind of understand why they might want to monetize the game more aggressively. Still not spending any money in there store though, for multiple reasons but a big one being the prices are absurd for what you get. The thing that offends me more about their monetization is what they did with the accolades. Given that accolades are just straight up a donation to a community member for making content you like, NK taking any cut at all is extremely scummy. But to take such a large cut that the person who made the content only gets 35% of what was spent is down right horrible. And then they had the audacity to lie and claim it was "industry leading" rates when there are games with similar donation systems which take no cut at all. This is controversial but personally I don't like that they've added political symbols into a kids game like this either. For me that's probably the biggest reason I don't want to support them at all, otherwise I could overlook the overpriced store and the scummy accolades stuff.
i bought btd6 on sale for like $5, i have 555 hours in it. I will gladly buy a few micro transactions. (wont get battle cats but got fast track and double cash)
battle cats and possibly future content which are not really compulsory is fine being paid content. its not a big deal they need to pay their bill too. don't cry over something unnecessary
Love you videos don’t stop but I do have one nag…I have epilepsy and every time I see the mortar is bugs me out and I get upset when I’m watching then u start using mortar cause I have to click off the video. And congrats on your baby
If you make a game which is worth playing for years, you have to support it for years, which means getting money from somewhere
Agreed, and the monetization is not visible unless you look for it. So many games are touting paid cosmetics in every login these days.
and we get so much with the base cost of the game that other games would absolutely make you pay for. after buying the game you have easy access to every map, monkey and hero, additional game modes, custom games, hero skins and like 95% of the cosmetics. stuff that you can pay for is optional and gives no advantage to players. they let everyone at least try the battle cat for free, and it's really not very powerful at all so you're not missing out if you don't buy it.

You don't need that kind of IAP and it's not game changers, so nah
The core experience of the game is entirely free though. I can understand some complaints about exclusive powers but powers are rarely used in most runs. a quarter? I got this game for like 50 cents on sale, isnt the base price like 5 dollars?
10:00 reminding me that I’ve been watching you for over a decade and that I’m not a kid anymore but rather a student in college
As an Archmage fan, I see this as an absolute win

Thats pretty cool
Ok to be fair Ninja kiwi is not to bad yet but if they keep making it more and more of a cash wall then there’s huge problems 4:14
yeah ive always liked archmage, glad to see it get some well deserved recognition
No they arent getting tooo greedy.

Archmage and Spirit of the Forrest is one of my favorite combos. Glad to see Archmage get some limelight.

I think Nk deserves to be greedy. Hes been blessing us so much for free HE DESERVES THE MONEY
Yeah but I'm aware that nk makes the whole game p2w
Seeing as BTD6 is on sale for 4 bucks on steam right now, I think some micro transactions are ok

According to the recent updates I feel like a 5-2-0 is better when getting an x-2-x village
5xx wizard can decamo bloons, no need to cross path it with bottom
It's not a big deal it's a crossover thing they have to give royalties to maaters of the universe, so of course you can't get it for free. People not understanding business doesn't make them greedy
Wish we could say then fast track exist
Archmage is just like a 3-3-3 Wizard
Naw rly?
@@KydenDelara yea it also has shimmer and dragons breath
More like 4.5-3.5-3.5
5-3-3 not 3-3-3

Yayyy another video before i sleep!!
Hey Chris, how's the dad life going? Hope it's treating you well :)
It's going lol
You should consider double discount villages where applicable especially when using towers in close proximity that you’re using for buffs
That's kinda sweaty tho
Im honestly very glad that my favorite Wizard finally gets a good buff.
I always thought the Archmage was one of the strongest towers in the game even before this buff.
Personally I don't have any problem with some things costing real money, considering all the things we get for free; new monkeys, heroes and tracks.

This sounds amazing. YOU'RE A WIZARDDDD
NK has clear favorites
I mean, arch mage was mediocre for a long time, so not really?
You can also buff him with top path mermonkey and the final harmonic
NK IS NOT BAD, THEY TREAT US WELL AND GIVE US UPDATES UNLIKE BLOX FRUITS AND THE STRONGEST BATTLEGROUNDS
The problem with it is that, when are we going to use battle cats when you already have a lot of monkey money for powers?
