I must say that I'm truly humbled. I have respect for such pure musicianship... Tony Royster is definitely one of the most excellent drummers of all time.
Yeah it's clear he has a double pedal but the part where he says that's just 1 pedal is where tony a fast double stroke on the kick & he was pointing out hat he was doing it with one foot. Also for those complaining about him talking, remember this is not a proper recording of the invent with mics but someone recording from their own device so he can say an express hisself as he please. I would of been hype to watching tony play in person
That was musical genius at its best. What's with all u ppl disrespecting great muso's like tony we need more amazing people like him. Musicianship is all about creating an striving 2 better urself whatever ur choice of inStrument maybe. Tony was born on earth 4 his out of this world skills an amazing' AMAZING!!! Talent. All muso share a common gift that feeling that can't b explained when on stage jamming a uforic feeling. Imbrace all aspects of music it will always evolve. Thank u 4 sharing ur
I've been seeing Tony for years, and the dude is obviously a world-class drummer ... but, somehow, in this clip .... he left earth on us. Some of that crap he was pulling out was kind of inhuman.
ya he is one of my favorites! i meet him GC hollywood clinic. he told me the secret to his great drumming is practice to failure and find the sweet spot on the bass pedal to be fast on in.
Johnnyboy200406 Billy Cobham, Dennis Chambers, Narada Michael Walden, and more ... look them up. In fact, Dennis Chambers introduced Tony when he was a kid and mentored him. Billy Cobham is the father of this power drumming technique playing in all kinds of meters. He first came to prominence with John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra in the early 70’s . What we see today is not even an advancement on what he did back then.
GODDAMN, I can just barely wrap my mind around what he's doing @ 4:45 -- it's a half time beat that pulses THREE beats to every FOUR of the ensemble's downbeat. He's A Fuckin Monster!
Watching him really makes me wonder is it possible for me to be that good.....BUT that just means i gotta train like heck! Not gonna get close to his level without some blood, sweat, and tears!
Listen bro. Ur not. Tony. Or ur name would be......ur a drummer in god's kingdom. We come in all com n different categories.... We n joy an learn from each other..........march on drumm. Key is. Stay. Hungry
@Jztwrshp3 thanks! the thing that i admire of tony is his speed, technique and most of all his style of playing he makes it look soy easy!! he plays so naturally!
Tony I just want to let you know you have it going on I know you put in a lot of time and I know that your mother came down to the studio to see what your gift was and that was the end of that and now you are consistently progressing and growing and now you're professional keep up the good work.
Incredible Drumming. Tony has a vast toolbox of technique, feel, groove, speed & timing. I got tired watching this because there is so much to take in. I don't buy into the "Who Is The Best Drummer" but Tony is an amazing drummer & will be remembered as one of the greats in the drumming community.
@phillip2922 I agree. Thomas pridgen said that when he was small he played drumsets where the snare was barely on the stand and the seat was falling off. He said he never got into that adjusting because he just wanted to play drums.
Sem comentarios, pra mim o melhor baterista do mundo...Completo em todos os ritimos...i sem sem essa de q isso é relativo. o kara é o melhor e é o melhor.. Excelente...
i wnna c travis vs. tony battle it out i wander who will win ? hmmmm thts type hard dey both crazii on set nd if it do happen that will b da best drum battle ever ! nd one of dem will really truly b called da best drummer in da world !
Liking Mr. Royster, Jr. here on this vid. Lot of interesting phrasing, and I particularly dig the cymbal work. On your statements about two pedals I agree with this, especially when it's not overused. Though the name may not be thrown around as cats more well-known, Dave DiCenso's right foot is incredible. I put him in another class when it comes to any choices about 2 vs. 1. He's beyond that. I like what he's doing on this one, with the other foot working the hi-hat: watch?v=w68YKFx99pY
I must say that I'm truly humbled. I have respect for such pure musicianship... Tony Royster is definitely one of the most excellent drummers of all time.

The fact that the bassist and pianist can actually keep up with what he is doing.
