  • Hello and welcome to my channel! I'm excited to announce a brand new build to you guys! A badass 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner Convertible! This car needs a full restoration and it's getting the full restomod treatment thanks to my friends at Auto Metal Direct & QA1 Motorsports. I will do my best to document the process in what will be a long series of videos.
    In this episode I do a complete start to finish DIY on how to install the tail panel, trunk latch support, trunk hinges, and remove all the old pieces of quarter panels. We finish the episode by cutting our brand new Auto Metal Direct quarter panels & test fitting them onto the car. You don't want to miss a single second of this build! Please subscribe to stay up to date!
    If you'd like to support the channel, please check out our merch below! Also follow me on Instagram for more pictures of the build. @Rust_Bucket_Restos

    I’ve learned a valuable lesson about welding and grinding in shorts. Lol. Glad to see I’m not the only one who does it.

    Love your background music on this installment. I think this group is the British group The Shadows who dominated the British music world before the Beatles showed up.

    Man, you're fearless on those quarter panel fabrications. I would have spent a week fretting about it first! Great job!

    I know this is your channel and you can do anything you want to do on it. There may be others like me that started watching to see the progress on the charger. I’d love to see you getting back at it. Jumping to another project after the metal work is done is, well, for me, is getting me uninterested in watching the channel. I understand it’s very easy getting burned out with a project because I sure do when I’m working on a project. Even with the cuda it seemed to stop. Please get back to one of them.

    That is just a beautiful view of the mountain down your block, except your driveway, teehee. When you cut those quarters to match, are you not worried about warpage on the top of that flat panel, or just tacking it far apart and letting it cool will minimize any warpage, I guess if need be you could hammer and dolly it out, they look fantastic just sitting there, it`s great how you will get the whole new trunk gutter and quarter in one shot, everything else seems to be lining up right on. Yeah, I could see mounting and welding those quarters in place, because they look perfect, and then playing hell trying to get the doors and fenders to line up, obviously this isn`t your first rodeo, great advice for viewers though, so nobody makes that dreaded mistake, take care buddy.

    I'm just eager to see how you make those quarters fit onto a convertible. It's hard for me to imagine how that's going to look when it's done... I see so few convertible 69 Roadrunners still in existence. Great work as always! Thanks for sharing.

    Grinding through the edges to remove the panels works great in the areas where you are discarding the material you're cutting away. In areas like the edge of the B-pillar where you want (I think) to keep the factory appearance, you should cut through with a death wheel. By grinding through the corner, you are thinning the steel at the edge, right where you will be trying to re-weld. The possibility of distorting the edge itself is much higher. You will likely have problems here with blow-throughs when you weld in the quarter panel, which means more heat/warping to get the seam created, right where you have a very visible body feature.

    First of all, love all your tracks. I have a 67 gto and need some guidance replacing full left quarter.. The window channel, and mid lower half has the most rust. Sail panels are good except the parts of the window channel. Do I replace the whole quarter panel or just replace what's needed and patch the window channel. Also, wh9 sells good quality 67 gto quarters.

    I'm wondering how hard it would be to take a convertible car and convert it to a hard top car. Not a big fan of convertible cars. Just saying.

    Never understand why people think 💭 converables are worth more money 💰 as you get less cars for your money and they are more inconvenient in rain 🌧️ rocks flying of other cars . Cattle 🐄 trucks going by spraying 💩💩💩everywhere 🙀true etc just buy a MOPAR Muscle 💪 2 door . 👍🏻💯🇦🇺⛽️.

    • @shanedingz
      @shanedingz Год назад +1

      They’re worth more because there were far less of them produced.
      Rarity = Desirability.
      And because they cost more to manufacture which resulted in them costing more, to buy new.
      Also, restoring them costs more for above mentioned reasons.
      So there are very logical reasons why convertibles are worth more.
      That said, I don’t like them and I’d never buy one.
