Hyundai i10 2020 (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

- Hyundai i10 2020 debuted at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The small city car is sized very similarly to its predecessor, except for the wheelbase, which is now 4 cm longer, and that has significant impact on interior space. The 2020 Hyundai i10 is currently offered in Europe with two normally aspirated petrol engines (1.0 MPI and 1.2 MPI). Joining the range in mid 2020 will be a sporty Hyundai i10 N-Line variant with a 1.0 litre turbocharged 100 hp engine. In some markets Hyundai i10 is larger, and called the Grand i10. In those markets it also appears in the sedan form.

Thanks for watching Marek Drives reviews. If you liked it, here are several other channels you may enjoy: Autophorie, Autogefühl, Bob Flavin, Carfection, Doug DeMuro, Driven Car Reviews, Fully Charged, TheSmokingTire, TheStraightPipes, VINwiki.
I love it. I miss these kinds of cars in the USA.
I went to the US once and most people are literally driving boats with wheels xD not for me :)
The whole planet is on the tip of their toes waiting for the i20 N version!!!
Hey Marek buddy - I just discovered your channel, love your style of honest and funny/sarcastic reviews. You are certainly helping Me and the Missus decide our next car...Thanks
Awesome, thank you!
And best of luck getting the right car for you.
I have this car. It's awesome. Very fun to drive.
haha "I don't like the seats or the stinky plastics" . We need more reviews like this. I don't like chimes and dings on cars ie when you have the door open, etc - no reviewer says stuff like that. But you do. Thanks
just stumbled upon your channel! love it! even the dad jokes lolllll keep up the great work!!
Have you tested the AMT version?
I hear and read that the AMT sucks...slow changes, swinging effect etc...
It is a great small car overall; it is amazing in the city and good on the highway, where you feel the lack of power, but you can drive easily around the speed limits. The 2014 model we have does not stink at all on the inside. One issue we still have is with the first gear and the reverse, it does not always get there on the first try. The clutch set was changed and it did not help at all, the original one was worn-out around 50% at 30 thousand kilometers.
i ve heard this is a common issue
The 1L 3 cylinder Turbo engine sounds like a !it of fun. Interested to see how that drives when released
Hey Marek, let me give you an applause for your brilliant english and thanks for a nice review.
Thanks! 😃
True - and the UK style sense of humour 👍🏼😁😉
Good looking runabout with decent suspension and some tech. Not bad.
Informative and fun review, thanks.
Wish we have these cars in the USA. Petrol is cheap here, so these would really make running it really cheap
Thank you Mr.Lee for creating such a beautiful machine...........
Theoretical acceleration ❤️. Followed many a vehicle in which the owner obviously didn’t select a throttle peddle in the configurator
In India, It is also known as Hyundai Nios.
There are two difference between India Spec and Europe Spec
1) In India Spec, LED DRL are different from Europe Spec
2) In India, This car has digital speedometer rather than Analog Speedometer in Europe
It looks and priced not bad......hope petrol engines would be alive after 50 K kms//////
Great review, thanks Marek!
I will be buying this or a Kia Picanto, not sure which one yet. Being able to select reverse whilst on the move with the i10 bothers me! How could that be possible? Great review though, as usual, thanks.
I’m getting the auto 1.2 for teaching in. As I’m not expecting a rocket-ship I reckon I’ll be okay. Thoughts?
I love your videos by the way. Please keep them coming.
Have you bought it? How does the auto gearbox perform?
You are also wrong, this car doesn't come with xenon (XID) front lights, but with what is called, projector head beam. its a standard bulb, only housed with Lens assembly in front of it for better focusing illumination on the road. this is why you searched for XID illumination - and could not find any :-)
**besides, XID is old tech by now, the industry has already replaced XID for LED projection lights every where, from toyota to jaguar. no more XID is being manufactured.
A request to all car reviewers , on the title of your videos always mention engine size and whether is manual or automatic ,thnx.
0-100 kph sometime next week and stinky plastics aside, :) for me, at least, those little cars are the best small cars around. True, you can see and smell the cheapness... But those little things are very well equipped and the version with the 82-84 bhp engine are zippy. Excellent review. Oh, I believe Hyundai also offers 7 year warranty with those aswell.
5 years warranty with Hyundai
I red your story on a comment on a previous video about the i10
That girl surely regrets it now
Greetings from Romania! I just noticed on our website that they reduced the 84 hp to 79 and switched the i 30 1.5 Dpi 110 hp with a 1.5 Mpi 96 hp. Do you know if it’s a whole new engine or the same 1.5 modified?
They probably had to detune it for emissions.
Good review. looks a good car
How does it compare to your review of the previous I10 in terms of noise ?
The previous version you said it was a very quiet car
As long as you don't go too fast in it, it's OK.
just bought one. stock color of Tomato red though XD funds ran out :P - got the mid tier one. will arrive in Denmark in 5-6 weeks. Can't wait ^^
Did you buy the car in another country? Where?
Also does the rear load cover have strings to prop it up when you open the tailgate or not? Because I've seen several videos about the car and some have strings, while some don't (like the car in this video).
Romy - those strings are detachable, I own this car.
@@SulkinWolsla I have had the char for a month now. And its the perfect little city car. I use it for 130km a day pendling to and from work with around 40km on the highway. The autopilot is smooth as fuck, the Lane assist is very prompt but unintrusive. All the small details, gadgets etc Are so well done. Its plasticy in the cabin in places but I Will gladly take that and then have All the other things. I am very pleased with My purchase. And if you have Any question let me know and ill try to answet them.
@@SulkinWolsla No regrets. My first New car as well. I looked at the aygo, the c1, C3 etc. Test drive them All. And none of them came close to the New i10. You wont regret it. Enjoy ^^
Is he testing the 1.2?
Good evolution ! Even though it’s small, is it really a city car ? I read hyundai i10 buyers wanted something affordable at first. Also are you sure for xenon ? Looks like halogen with a lens to me.
It’s halogen with a lens.
I’ve taken the bulbs out to look at them, the i30 n line and n have xenon bulbs
I would like to know safety rating of this car
Would you say the i10 is better on the motorway than the Kia Picanto ? I'm thinking ride comfort and noise.
I would say if you need to drive on the motorway frequently, you may want to get something like the Opel Mokka, which is considerably more expensive, but surprisingly well soundproofed (or maybe it's the aerodynamics).
When is it going to arrive in south Africa?
Much more interesting than boring VW hatchbacks. Nice.
Did you get bigger over last year as well? because i10 did :)
Very Nice Car... I wish it would introduced in PAKISTAN... As this segment has much demand in market...
Ipressed by this little city skater. The former was available in factory bivalent LPG is that no longer?.
Not as far as I know.
I always like the i10 but it's starting to go downhill as they find ways to make it cheaper. It's cute though
Super test
Strange that in the UK or Sweden there is no double floor.
Options like these can differ across markets. Sometimes carmakers need to keep the price down to a certain level, and they get rid of non-essential options.
are the new i10’s gonna sell in America?
Come to Romania, buy the somewhat base model just under 10 000 euro and the 1.2l base model at 10 600 euro.
Is this engines would enought for twisty Romanian mountain roads?
@@vvp1002 This is a city car. I think both of these engines are suitable for the City - no turbo, no particulate filter. If you buy a city car, I think it's important it will work well in the city. When you get out of the city, of course it's gonna be slow, but it's to be expected. I think we need to buy cars based on the 80% of needs, not based on the 10 or 20%. If you actually need a car for long trips, maybe you should look at i30 with 1.4 Turbo GDI 140cp or Elantra with 1.6 MPI 128 cp.
Really impressive list of features for a citycar, but of course the top spec model ain't cheap eather. Still, seems like a nice upgrade.
Is it suitable for tall drivers? 6ft tall/1,85cm or more
I don't know. I seem to be 10 cm too short to answer that one :)
Marek, between this or the Ford ka+ which would be your choice?
I don't think I've seen a Ka+ in real life.
I still drive 1st gen i10
"boring shopping cart"?
Man that hurts
:P
Nice car good video 👍
The girl in the story at the introduction sounds a bit shallow.
She liked the car but the guy is clearly not easy on the eyes.
Hi.
Can you tell me the price?
Tell me the Price please.
In the description.
nice story :D the new i10 is a lot sexier than first gen.
in the city with the 1.2 AMT variant ur no match for any car thats not quick off the line. The power on low speeds its impressive and even on highway it keeps up. 600km on 140km/h and 3 hours in Bucharest trafic got me 5.6l/100. On romanian roads which you cant go more than 100 and mostly 70 on our weekly trips of 75km i often get 3.6l-4l and best it was 3.2l. Its often better than a toyota hybrid at fuel if u dont push the pedal too hard.(not in stading still in city ofc) Its not ment to go fast but it can overtake i would say easy since it revs up to 6.5RPM .
I have the AC3 N - Line, and belive me, although it's not a sport car, nothing can compare, and as you' ve said if the road is clear, consumption is more than decent, but when we drag in bottle - neck huge queues... that's an other story !
@@victormarian7889 2 years of owning this i10 full AMT 1.2 and i have no complaints. Next year ill order an elantra probably full one here in romania.
Your style is way better than the guy from Pit-stop 😂
I like the i10 but here in South Africa we get stuck with the lower infotainments systems that make it look like a much cheaper and uglier car and features with no ways to upgrade it even though the cost is more
It takes you only 1min to make me sympathize you respect
i still drive a Huyndai Atos thats the predecessor of the i10 and i got to say dude! I don t give a damm about auto ignorant girls! The thing is 20 years old still going quite strong and my wife likes the ride with this.
Review hyundai nios
I do not agree with the term "city car". there are no cars that are called city cars, unless its the electric club cars that are limited to 25km per hour speed and cost 2000$.
this is a mini car category, and it can do everything. also coast to coast USA 4000 km new york to los Angeles with enough comfort. its a 2020 car - not 1940.
Enough comfort is a relative term :)
Supercars can also drive in the city, but who would want to do that?
@@MarekDrives I am 45 years old Marek. I was a child in the 70s and 80s. we had family cars at that times like the Peugeot 204 or the fiat ritmo and it served us for all needs. to go to work every day and the whole family to trips and vacations and we didn't complain (except for poor reliability of course). compare to those old cars from 40 years ago, the new mini cars of today are like a dream ,including this new i10. I would rather you review the cars from the mini category and treat them as they should be treated. the hi way 100km per hour speed is comfortable and quite in any shape or form. that is how good cars have become today. it is your choice how to category terms, but if you abuse the mini category hinting they are no more than basic transportation not made for hi ways, you are not professional in the automobile industry, at least in this viewer perspective. And I know car industry and car engineering well...
We've had a Fiat 126p, so don't talk to me about discomfort :)
But today I'd rather travel long distance in a larger car.
@@MarekDrives that is understood. but, calling a mini car - a city car, is a misconception widely spread over the internet wrongly. you are not the only one. those mini segment cars can be good cars, even if they do not drive as good as the bigger family cars that cost twice as much. there is room and place for different levels of products. unlike old machines from 40 years ago , today's mini cars are quite surprising in quality and content for what their price tag suggest. they ride well enough, they are comfort enough, they are quite and not noisy - the industry learned how to suppress noise for small money as well. they have full electrical features, and full safety features like never before. although I can allow my self to drive in a very expensive luxury car, I rather choose smart how I spent my money and if a low cost products still supply me with good enough service, I will choose it easily. the mini cars of 2020, really do supply us with amazing value - performance vs price...
It made my day 🍾
Thanks for the video, but the car with this color looks like an angry smurf.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ford design?
Does look like a Ford ka
Italian design!
I was really missing your jokes 😁
Amo el I10 pero el tablero es muy alto
Where and how did you learn to speak such perfect English?
In the Middle East. Where else? :)
Back of car is step back compare to last generation
An experienced motoring journalist should not need to get used to a gear change. This video is in English and you keep telling us what you get in Germany. By the way is this what you would call a city car?
OK - the gearbox is crap.
Yes, it's in English. Probably about 20% of the world population speaks the language. I use German prices, because I consider them most relevant for the rest of Europe.
Is this a city car? Yes. Does it have a city car price? No. But then city cars as we know them are likely to disappear due to emissions and resulting costs to manufacturers and clients.
@@MarekDrives But the UK buys more German cars than anybody else in the world. The manufacturers can not get rid of city cars as we know them because they help to sell other models in their range.
@Graham Johnson the new emission regulations will lead to gradual demise of the city car in Europe. Excess emission fines are applied based on weight of the car, so smaller cars are penalised more, than larger cars. Small city cars could go all electric, like the smart EQ, but that will make them too expensive anyway.
@@MarekDrives But in the end governments will have to allow for this or make you take the bus on a useless route to where you want to go, buses will or do cost about 300,000 GBP so are not economical so some compromises will have to be met. But having said that if MG can produce a reasonably priced car with all their bells and whistles surely a city car without these extras is possible at a reasonable price as they don't require lane guidance etc..
@@MarekDrives
I just bought an i10, in Germany 😉
So your video was very helpful 👍🏻
The Indian version of this has a digital instrumental cluster.
And in India it has 82 Horse power
Indian version is better than this version.
Ok, this car is seriously boring but you made it interesting to watch the video. There's always a couple good zingers to entertain. 2 thumbs up!
It gets very expensive. More expensive than a Suzuki Swift. And regardless of brand perception, the Swift is a better car.
Yes, German prices I use for the English versions of my reviews are crazy. In Poland this car is significantly cheaper, and it also starts something like 4k euro below the Swift.
Still this thing costs as much or even more than Renault Clio which is a much better car.
Can you buy a Clio for 11k euro?
@@MarekDrives It's like 10990 in Latvia with non-Tce engine and without any options at all.
Noone buys the very base trim. Once you get the mid trim or 1.2 engine (practically - both) you're within price range of the Clio which is very well equipped from the start.
seems that girl model was an inferior make luckey you survived the come on would have cost you a fortune in add ons

Nice but too expensive. Like the miserable Nissan Micra or the overrated VW Polo.

I think the 9 year old Lancia Ypsilon is better looking and has a nicer interior.
