I still have a 94 LeSabre (as of July 2018) that I bought brand new back in Oct 1994. That's pretty good since I live in Illinois where the salt the crap out of the roads. I replaced all 4 of the rear subframe bushings in 2015 when is noticed 2 were gone. Should get another 5 years out of the car (only has 172K).
I just went thru this last week on my 97 Lesabre. All 4 washers on the rear of the subframe rotted out, the bolts pulled thru and ripped up the bushings. I found some really nice subframe bushings and bolts from a wrecked Cadillac. Obviously the Cadillac came from a much dryer climate than central Indiana!! I fabricated plates to repair the crusty holes in both rear “ears” of the subframe and welded them in. I have probably 4 hours repair time and 30 bucks in parts.
@@ahagan9 only one corner of the engine cradle on my car was damaged from rust. It was the actual subframe body bushing washer that rusted on my car. Because I’m cheap, and this was a cheap work vehicle, I went to my local junkyard and found some good solid bolts and body mount hardware. I think I used Cadillac deville parts from a similar year. I have no clue if they were the “correct” parts, but they had the same diameter as the originals. Where the cradle was rusted I just cut some large washers from a sheet of steel that was similar thickness as the engine cradle. I cleaned up the rusty metal in the subframe and selfies the washers in place. I drove the car for another year after my repairs, it handle and rode better than it did when I bought it. Which tells me the bushings were probably in bad shape for awhile before I found the problem
The same thing happened to my car. Except all four on the back let go and pulled the steering column out of the steering rack and I lost steering and went into a ditch. It was a fun ride
If I remember right, the last time you had to replace those bushings, you used the cover of an old hard drive which was stainless to cover the hole......
Got a 96 Park Ave im looking at. Can't find these bushings clearly listed for the rear 4. Is there a difference between the front and back ones? Dorman lists 924-043 and 1ABMK00239
Hate to beat you up.. but you are scaring me...buy new stuff and install it so your brother does not get himself killed or kill someone else...won't harp on the tires anymore either! Be safeout there
Old Hockey pucks work great for body mount repairs, leaving the hole Lazy lazy ! Should've at least greased up the hole & use some spare tin and rivet it shut ! Just busting your stones!!!!
And why do people cut support frames lol.. Thats the dumbest thing ever. When you fix a car fix it right. Theres a reason why their isnt a hole there. Because its I art of the support

May be doing this myself. Do you have a picture of what you welded in place? Looking to do the same thing. Thanks

+Devonta Davis Sorry I can't, one of those bushings alone cost about $50.

More350Power Yeah I did. I figured this one would be fine if I left it open since my brother only wants to get another year out of it.
That Buick out there without the tire and sitting on the ground might have bushings.
I think we all say that, one more year! lol
