- Lyric Video of Riot's song "Warrior" from the album Rock City (1977).
I believe this was the first "Power Metal" song created. A great song, which was ahead of its time.
No Copyrights intended. This is a fan made video and tribute.
R.I.P. Mark Reale (June 7, 1955 -- January 25, 2012) Founder and guitarist of Riot.
R.I.P. Guy Speranza (March 12, 1956 - November 8, 2003) Vocalist and Riot's original frontman from 1976-1981.
"Warrior" (Lyrics)
Into the darkness that all men must face,
Within the brief hours, of your life here on earth.
Pain thrashed into his life, the great prince stood firm,
Behind his high and mighty shield, awaiting his turn.
Shield at his side, cloak across his breast,
His love and his life, they put him through the test.
Shine on, shine on, in all of your glory.
Shield all your fears, release all your fury.
Shine, shine on, through the darkness and the pain.
Shine, shine on, Warrior.
Shine, shine on, through the wind and the rain.
Shine, shine on, Warrior.
Shield at his side, cloak across his breast,
His love and his life, they put him to the test.
Shine on, shine on, in all of your glory.
Shield all you fears, release all your fury.
Shine, shine on, through the darkness and the pain.
Shine, shine on, Warrior.
Shine, shine on, through the wind and the rain.
Shine, shine on, Warrior.
This song is simply a jewel
RIP, Mark Reale, you were an inspiration to me.
Si no ponés los cuernos del metal al aire!!!!! no tenés sentimientos..... esto es: HEAVY METAL !!!!!! Hermosa canción!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is powermetal
fuck what a great song
Proto Power: 'Fireball" (Deep Purple - 1971), Set Me Free (Sweet - 1974), Kill The King (Rainbow - 1977), "Warrior" (Riot - 1977), Let Us Prey / Call for the Priest (Judas Priest - 1977).
First song, 100% Power (Lyrics and music, with the double bass in the intro, chorus and solos, dual guitar attack, neo classical solo influenced) - Exciter - (Judas Priest - 1978).
“Call for the Priest” by Judas Priest is definitely a song that deserves to be mentioned in this thread. Maybe it’s just me, but I view it as a better contender for being the first power metal song before “Exciter”.
No. Error.
@@arturillimc6997 the double bass is not a rule for such a song. But anyway, Fireball HAS the constant double bass almost in the entire song (I'm drummer. I play drums since I had 7 years old. Now I'm 38.)
And the felling of all these songs has elements from what came to be Power Metal. Of Course not all of them. For this reason I called them "Proto Power Metal!
La inspiración del power metal. Aunque el crédito se lo den a otros.
Heavy Metal, the definition
12 OREJAS de PLÁSTICO
I think the first power metal song was The Sweet's Set Me Free. Though this one has more 'power-ish' lyrics.
Great song choice… I believe it came out in 1974. I’d like to hear people’s thoughts on this one. For me, I view this song more as original speed metal, but you can definitely make a good argument with this one.
@@amadeusdraven3831 Do you know any similar power metal songs to Riot's one between 1977 and 1984 though? Which are genuinely power metallish in the way of Helloween and other early pioneers.
@@ИльяИванов-д2ю Some from between 1977 thru 1984 that come to mind for me are songs like Accept’s “Fast as a Shark”(1982) Iron Maiden’s “Purgatory” (1982) Warlord “Child of the Damned” (1983) Manilla Road “Necroplolous” (1983), and maybe Stormwitch "Werewolves on the Hunt" (1984) or Omen - “Battle Cry” (1984).
Warlord and Accept probably do the best job of filling the gap.
@@amadeusdraven3831 I'd mention Silver Mountain in turn. Their 1983 album and earlier demos, very similar to speed/power metal melody-wise, and also contains a lot of neoclassical elements. Early Europe closely approached power metal canon too, though from AOR side of thing.
@@ИльяИванов-д2ю Yes! The “80's demo recordings” and the album “Shakin’ Brains” by Silver Mountain. Both have some great power metal concepts sprinkled throughout. The song I would choose from them would probably be “Necrosexual Killer” followed by “Vikings” the keyboard solo at the end of that song is very power metal.
It is a shame that they are not better known.
With the band Europe I can see what you mean with songs like “Scream of Anger” (1984)
