If you think about Johannesburg you might wanna consider Pretoria as well, it's much safer, less congested and a bit more relaxed than the busy Johannesburg. I'd say Pretoria is between the two cities in comparison and the advantage of staying at Pretoria is that you are just a few minutes drive from Johannesburg. There is no field that separates us hence you can enjoy the benefits of both Johannesburg & Pretoria without taking a 2 hour flight

Here is the thing about South Africa, everything province is unique and different. You can be in Pretoria and feel like you are in another country as compared to Johannesburg and so as other provinces. These provinces are diverse in their own. I love Cape Town for a vacation but Joburg is in my soul. Cape Town is more expensive than Joburg. Some of the analysis here are incorrect.

SA has sparsely populated region in the Northern Cape. It is almost like a desert. The area is used as location for scientific research like the biggest radio telescope in the Southern Hemisphere and NASA will also use it for monitoring space from there. That gives me more joy and meaning. It signifies human development

The greatest advantage Johannesburg has over Cape Town is it's close proximity to two other major cities, Pretoria and Ekurhuleni in the Gauteng province. Thus, it is easy to work in Johannesburg and live in the other two cities, people do that daily. Plus, you have a huge population of potential clients/customers (12.5 mil) within a 100km radius if you own a business in JHB/PTA/Ekurhuleni.
Most South Africans who own big businesses in Gauteng, usually purchase holiday homes in Cape Town.

Another thing you must realize is that since provinces seperated in 94 the distance between major cities is becoming less.Other major cities are developing into cities and are promising to be MAJOR CITIES in the near future.Rustenburg and Malahleni (Witbank) are now classified as cities. They are the fastest developing in the country with Rusty leading and Malahleni following.Their Central Business Districts have not changed but the outskirts have developed a lot.Rustenburg has got the MOST and BIGGEST PLATINUM MINES WORLDWIDE whilst Malahleni (Witbank)has got the most COALMINES in AFRICA.

Unfortunately our youth unemployment rate is very high.
Johannesburg is fast-paced where Cape Town is very laid back.. we always have road rage when we visit CT because we just want to get to our destination while they take their time.
CT has 4 seasons in a day and it has beautiful views..Johannesburg doesn't have an ocean but we have many walking/hiking trails etc. CT also has a clique feel to it..so I don't feel it's as welcoming as JHB. To find good property there you literally need to be a millionaire where we have bigger yards and more space for much cheaper in JHB.
I don't know if I believe the cost of living though..it's pretty much the same for groceries..your seafood will obviously just be cheaper in CT because they don't have to add all the transportation costs.
Cape Town is the best governed city in SA so you actually get service delivery, in that sense, I won't mind paying more. That's also why most people want to move there.

I am born and bred in Johannesburg and I think it’s still the best city. You should look for a house in the Northern Suburbs e.g. Bryanston area, Morningside , Sandton, Westcliff, Fourways etc. CTP is expensive.

the jhb v cpt competition is silly . cape town will forever be my place of birth and is a beautiful city. Gauteng namely pretoria and are beautiful in their own right too . Joburg has amazing parks and greenbelts and botanical gardens and also the close proximity to the neighbouring provinces and countries makes for good road trips . beautiful people I have met in Gauteng too . i would choose to live there again if the opportunity popped up . like you said its pros and cons to living where you want to. . i just wish we had a government who looked after this country properly though.

No wonder Western Cape want independence because they are Gatvol of being oppressed by the ANC.After the provinces seperated in 94 more major cities would have developed like Gqebherha (PE).It would be a major city Eastern Cape residents wouldn't all flock to Cape Town.

@@suzanibafazi8661 😭 I wish all cities to be prosperous so that people won't want to move out of necessity but rather because it's an option to visit. If only the people in charge would actually care about the people of this nation more than their fat stomachs we imagine the great potential of this place and the people 😭 so much talent going and gone to waste.
