I think most of us South Africans wanted to go live in the US so badly growing up. But now, we'd rather visit than leave South Africa. We have seen how the US is not so much glam as it was shown to be in the past. As black people, we'd rather stay in SA than being bothered by police and stuff
SA has worse crime than USA and it’s not even close. SA in fact is probably the most dangerous country to live in, in Africa according to research

Growing up in South Africa as kids all we wanted to do was to live in the US, It seemed like the best country in the world where all people were treated fairly and people had equal opportunities that we were being denied here in South Africa living under Apartheid, and that is purely based on what we saw on telly, music and their lifestyle that influenced us back in the 80's. But a persons perspective tends to change once they see the reality of a thing as opposed to what is being portrayed in the media.
Watching shows like The Jeffersons, Good Times, Sandford and Son, Amen, The Cosby Show, Benson, Family Matters etc made me so much want to live in America the land of the free and the home of the brave but Social media has definitely opened up our eyes that people all over the world are basically the same going through the same issues in different ways.
There's rich and impoverished people all over the world. Cruel Corrupt and insensitive Governments just like we have here in SA and we as humans need to be less judgemental of other countries and try to make the world a better place because there's no perfect country

One thing that sums up a lot of Americans is the reaction to Tyla calling herself Coloured and the backlash she received. Telling her she's not allowed to call herself that. You guys are more educated on other countries and the history of Coloureds in South Africa, but some other Americans really come across as if the world revolves around the US. It's very annoying to South Africans which you can see in the responses to the Americans calling Tyla out. America is not the be all and end all anymore, they are not a super power anymore..especially since 2020. I feel more Americans must learn about countries outside of the US. The fact that people still think that everyone in Africa lives in huts and have wild animals all around in the streets shows the ignorance. Everyone must repsect the US but do they respect everyone else?

When I moved to America I was asked if I'd ever been chased by lions and sh**. Like yes, I have been 3 times, but on Safaris, not on the streets lol. Someone literally asked me if we have cars. Like bruh?

To Americans being arrogant. I think it's mostly due to cultural differences, Americans generally don't greet, while we greet for everything and everyone as a sign of respect. And being loud is seen as being arrogant and disrespectful here.
A few of them were not honest with their opinions about Americans because it was Americans asking the questions and South Africans don't like to offend to your face... but there are lots of videos around about what South Africans feel about Americans when asked by someone else that is not from America.
The whole Tyla issue and the comments that Americans made on how she identifies has brought out South Africans feelings about Americans
We can understand that but in most cases honesty would be preferred instead of telling someone what they would like to here just to spare feelings ❤️.

As a S.A.n I think the U.S.A. is absolutely great, I find the black community to be very amazing, incredible athletes, incredible singers and producers. The racism hasn't destroyed them as it's intended to. Most Africans in Africa's most remote villages draw inspiration from Black Americans, it is just beautiful❤❤❤❤

I'm South African growing up I used to hate South Africa and love America I just wanted to go there because of what TV showed me how awesome America but even before I watched TV I was already obsessed at 5 years old because my grandma did some kind of programme at Harvard.. ever since then I've made many connections in America so I have a close friend in Philly, I made alot of friends online even had a online "fiancé" from Charlotte, NC now I know so much about America because through the years
I love doing research about everything but then I eventually came to love my own country and I don't want to move out of South Africa again I got sure want to travel I love traveling and linguistics I taught myself Spanish

I love your confidence, but I think most AAs can spot a non-American from a mile away and vice versa. If anything, we automatically accept you as you are instead of us trying to get you to assimilate to our culture. However, you'll need to assimilate to excel within the overall American culture, but AAs will not demand you to imitate our culture. I'm saying this with sincerity and not trying to step on toes. I'll be honest I've lived in America as a South African. The country isn't for me. The standard of living isn't as good as here. Which was a shock. America has great P. R. I find a lot of Black Americans I've interacted with are only arrogant because they are misinformed about the rest of the world. The ones who travel and are better informed tend to be better

Here is my perspective: I just love people because of who they are not where they come from. I do not have any opinion or stereotypes about Americans because I see them as human beings like me just with a different culture and lifestyles. Every country has its own challenges and for me America is still my dream because it is the land of opportunities. I would like to go there and work, make some dollars and come back to settle down at home. I also agree with the gentleman who spoke of some Americans coming to the continent with the mentality that they are coming to save us. We don’t need your saving, we need your collaboration to make Africa better than the way it is now. Yet I am not going to paint everyone with a dirty brush. It’s not all Americans. We also have some South Africans who are full of pride and look down on others because of what they have. So what I think about Americans is that they are just people like everyone of us. Their government system may be messed up but so does ours somehow. South Africa has so much in common with America.
I like this video. what I know is that most of South Africans look up to African Americans with their rich history and I have realized that most South Africans know more about USA compared to their country ( I am guilty of that) before the internet we thought USA was like Hollywood with all the glitz and glamour but since the internet is now a norm we can tell that Americans also have their struggles just like us South Africans and their struggle is even worse especially with their historical background.
+10 yrs ago I've would like to visit the US but now it would be the last country to visit on earth if possible,I think the economy is good,but there's ALOT of crazy deadly life ending incidents occurring there that I don't think happen elsewhere.I rather visit Russia,any African country even or Ukraine tbh

I live abroad and have come into contact with many Americans in a working and social environment. What I can say is that I agree with the overall arrogance and almost looking down their noses at people who do come from Africa. They love our women, but almost want us to shut up and look pretty...thats the kinda attitude I have experienced. In a working environment, they talk down to people who they deem below them i.e. drivers, shop assistants. But, this has just been my experience and I don't think I can totally generalize every American.
For me I don't think America would've been all that if Africa was also given an equal chance as for development in every aspect because I also feel Africans are as equally talented it just colonialism played a role in setting Africans back in terms of art and culture.etc

This shows that for the most part that capitalism has spurred growth in the United States since its independence and Communism for the most part have stifled economic growth and development in Africa. Even with the inheritance of colonial infrastructure and industrialization Africa struggles because of its ideological governance systems

I appreciate a trend of African American trying to educate Americans about Africa. American has a huge influence in the world. Culture,fashion, entertainment, business . I just hate the agenda of USA and West to keep Africa poor by all means,through propaganda and creating direct and indirect conflict/wars in most African countries. E.g 🇱🇾 🇱🇾 Libya and the list is more. African Americans i met are quite nice people, and they love Africa.
From my experience. I love America and recently vacationed in New York for a month. However I do feel the media has overrated certain aspects. Before I had desperately wanted to go live there but after experiencing certain things I would rather visit than to stay.
I think we share the same apartheid history 🙏

The thing i love about US is entertaiment - Music , Movies etc ....
I still remember when i was like 10 or 11 years old i heard Till i Collapse from Eminem , and i was like what is this ? it sounds so great and i did not understood a single word ....
Similar thing with 50 cent - his music sounds so dope even if you do not understand the lyrics , and when you finaly learn some english and you start to understand those texts you are amazed even more.
and most of the kids in Europe growing up in 90's have seen America as the greatest country that you would like to move in , but by time you learn more and more about the US and you are like meh idk if i would really like to live there , becose the healthcare system just sounds scary that it can bankrupt you and ruin your life even if it's not your fault.
What i do not like currently about US is how divided it is , like every media split people by color - always mentioning the color of the person and asking all these white and black questions.

As a colored south african I can relate to black Americans. I love them I think that they are the moral back bone of America because of their history. I don't have a problem with white Americans but like the white south Africans they are too privileged to actually understand our back ground and why we are the way we are.
Afterall African Americans descend from Africa. Which means they originally come from Africa. None of us should make ourselves bigger than the others. We should just connect as black people. Support each other and be united

I'm from SA, when my mom worked in an Art Gallery in the Waterfront, Americans were the worst. They spent a lot of money, but their attitudes were extremely off putting. It is a generalization, but even now living in Cambodia, American tourists are a hit and miss. Those who want to come apprciate cultres are great, but you also get those that are snobbish and think America does everything better and everyone else is backwards.
For me, growing up I would love to visit USA. But now I feel different I'm terrified I think I would be killed just being black 😞. The best part though are the black americans, love them so much, they are so talented so much and I can relate with them so much. It's a bit disappointing that you only asked the "black" South Africans and not for instance the mixed race (coloured), Indians or European (white) Africans. I think as a member of the latter group, we know a lot about the US. For instance: we will never be able to look past the draconian MAGA-inspired laws (the gun culture, abolishment of Roe vs Wade, the IVF ban of the last week, no free medical or education for the poor, virtually no benefits and leave for the workers, chasing profit at any cost, the annual shut down of the government, seeing the rest of the world as inferior to the USA etc.) The Americans speak about freedom, but we, in South Africa, have a lot more freedom, I feel. This is only my own opinion, but lots of people feel the same way.
What Americans are to the world is what South Africans are to other Africans. South Africans are not interested in learning more about Africa and we hardly travel to other African countries especially to west Africa. We prefer places like Mauritius, Tanzania or Namibia than the rest. Other Africans don't rely like us because they think we undermine them and they also think white people control us like how Americans are. So the point I'm trying to say is there's not much difference because we are largely influenced by African Americans lifestyle. We were both treated badly by white people, we used music and dance to express our struggle, we still havent fully gotten economic freedom, we've been exploited for generations, we are so talented that's why African Americans move to SA, the experiences we have are so similar and we relate to a lot of things.

@@victorntombela4257 I live in SA😐 and emphasis is on GOOD medical service, because public hospitals are terrible (ask anyone who's been in one, including myself)
The thing is that when a service like medical aid is free, the standards drop because the government can't afford to pay the civil servants as well as if it were privatized, which leads to poor service and terrible conditions.
This is not a Scandinavian country where your taxes are 50% of your salary or higher. Here in South Africa most people don't pay taxes because they live below the lowest tax bracket. The government doesn't have money to support everyone substantially.
She said it considering America is a super power! She never discredited the fact that SA also has its problem when it comes to healthcare, if you listened you would have heard!
