    My dad made something similar in the early 70s.. he took one of those mini pickup trucks.. cut the chassis right behind the cab.. fabricated a trailer hitch in the front. Fabricated and mounted a swiveling cherry picker engine puller on that.. and got the hand crank and cable from a very large boat trailer.. an adapter that to it also... I could go on and on but it was like half the work and twice the load weight

    I just found your Channel.. you've got excellent ideas.. myself I am a third-generation fabricator welder .. and now my son who is 25 is.. following along but he's taking it to the next level.. long story short I don't know if you care about money but you're giving a lot of Secrets away you could be making a lot of money.. my grandfather and my father came up with so many Innovations in things of that sort.. what I'm getting at is 99% of the people that are watching these videos aren't going to use your ideas.. it's the corporations that mass-produced these inferior products that are going to take your ideas and make hundreds of thousands of dollars off them... I'm just saying I've seen it happen and just my personal experience dozens of times.. videotape patented and then sell it to the manufacturer it ain't easy and it's going to cost you some headaches and cash but in the long run..$$#$!

    Did the crane redo add any lift capacity? If so wat do u figure...woodland mills has similar ones.. one with crane that has a lift cap of 440 lbs and a dump cap of 650 lbs.im debating whether the greater dump cap or boom capacity is way to go.., urs looks great!

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  7 лет назад

      It added 100% lift capacity from the sides. Before it didn't have any at all due to the missing side stands / outriggers.

    • @JohnMcNerney
      @JohnMcNerney 6 лет назад

      IF you get the Woodland Mills T-Rex (440# lift, 650# dump capacity, 2000# payload capacity), you can convert it to their Woodland ATV Trailer (no boom, but has 2000# dump capacity. Load logs by using the tailgate as a ramp and winch them aboard). All it takes is replace the T-Rex boom with the post attachment of the Woodland Trailer. I considered both models for use behind my tractor, but decided they were just too light-duty to make good use of my tractor's capabilities. Unfortunately, trailers that are a match for a tractor are many times more expensive.

    Looks like your chain anchor on the top wasn’t pivoting with the boom causing one chain to go slack.
    Hopefully that was a simple fix

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  7 лет назад

      The crane swivel plate was intentionally anchored to get the boom pull the log towards the trailer. It swivels when you unlock it.

    Awesome build as always! I wonder why it is that with some projects (this one, ATV tracks, tube bender) you paint them, but others (sawmill, mower, ATV plow) you do not.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  5 лет назад +1

      It depends on the weather mainly - if it's cold outside I don't paint the projects, and later if I don't have time for them. I will take some time for the sawmill though. However - now I can paint the smaller projects since I have a heated workshop where the paint can dry properly. So I hope all of my future projects get painted.

      I built one trailer / log arch for an old guy that has a sawmill himself. I sold the rusty log arch and now use the red log arch for bigger diameter logs and this timber trailer is meant solely for small diameter firewood. I just tried it out with the sawmill material.

    This is absolutely great! We want to build also this crane to be used with our new Red Machine (Honda) TRX 500 tractor. It would be more usefull with hydraulic winch, have you a solution how I can use ATV engine to make power? Where can I find blueprints for the crane? J

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  8 лет назад

      I don't have the blueprints for the crane yet but since you're already the second person asking for them I will have to come up with something soon. Usually there are separate power plants for hydraulics - I would recommend one of them, since you can throw it on while you need it and take it off when going trail riding etc. There was a solution from some company providing crank shaft mounted hydraulic pumps but I've forgotten the name...

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  7 лет назад +1

      These are wet logs so fairly heavy to move around by hand even on the ground. I'm glad you can throw these on by yourself but I can't.

    • @Brandon.Fischer
      @Brandon.Fischer 7 лет назад

      Donn DIY Huh ok, I was just wondering is all.. have you used it enough to determine its value yet? I have a skid arch and I REALLY want one of these to stack slats off my sawmill onto, but I just have a hard time knowing if its worth the investment.. what do you think?

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  7 лет назад

      While I made this crane I kept in mind that I would use it only for the logs I can't lift by myself. Using the grapple and original ATV winch is not the fastest way of loading logs but saves my back a lot and to be honest - where's the rush? :D I sure think having this proper crane is a good investment considering the fact that I can use it also for tilting the dump box (which I have to build yet). I haven't used it in combination with the sawmill but this guy sure enjoys his timber trailer crane setup with firewood processor which would be similar to the sawmill setup and he was responsible for my appetite towards my own proper crane: ruclips.net/video/EGTPjUhbNJA/видео.htmlm41s

      I am European too, so I was hoping I could find it closer by but Estonia also is kind of far away from Belgium ;) Unfortunately I can't find the trailers at that price over here :/

    I don't know I hope I'm not making too many comments.. in hindsight is 20/20.. but why are you always loading from the side?? I understand sometimes it's necessary but why wouldn't you back the trailer up to the end of the log put your tongues on the end of the log get one end up on the trailer. I don't know if you get what I'm saying to put it simply if you had to load those logs on that trailer by hand how would you do it.. I can put a 700-pound 10 foot long I-beam in the back of a four-wheel drive pickup truck by myself in less than 10 minutes with a small 3/8 choker and a hand crank cable comealong.. I'm just saying but yeah excellent work..
