this video was the first in-depth tf2 gameplay video i've ever watched, back in june 2021. i was already quite familiar with the characters and Meet The Team videos beforehand, and had seen many memes featuring them. i had no idea what was being said here because i never played the game or really looked into the gameplay, but i liked what i saw in the gameplay and discussion of this video, and decided to finally try the game out. so, i played all the (bad) tutorials, and played some offline practice as engineer, tried casual and promptly got overrun by bots, then found a blackwonder 2fort server and started hanging out there for a good while. now, almost 2 years later, i have 428 hours in the game (i know, not much, but i went long periods without playing) with 90 hours on engie (those 90 hours do not count offline practice so it's probably more like 120 or smthn) who is my most played class, and have the classic uncle dane PDA skip and loadout binds and am at least a semi-competent engineer and know how to properly place and defend my buildings (all thanks to uncle dane), and am quite familiar with the game's weapons, some maps (i can name all the ones in this video), and the inner workings of all classes. and some voice lines live rent free in my head and i say them at random irl and i think sentry guns are cute. rewatching this video with the knowledge i have now, i perfectly understand everything being said and can even relate to some things! basically: thank you, youtuber HintShot, for introducing me to this wonderful and goofy game known as Team Fortress 2 created by VALVe Software in 2007. if it wasn't for this video, TF2 would not be my most favourite video game of all time ♥ edit: i also quite enjoy spy now and rewatch these videos on occasion. it's always a good time
As an Engineer, I had quite the eventful 2 fort match, since upgrading my PC I've become a better shot which allows me to defend my building better. I had a nest set up in the intel(as ya do) along with 3 other Engineer, we kept getting corner peeked which didn't last very long because they didn't expect me to actually come after them and we moved around our sentries. I think they were assuming I'd keep hammering away at my sentry while they shot at me. We even killed a spy, a demo, 2 scouts(one twice), a pyro and a non pocket medic Heavy, we ended up making it so hard for them to get our intel that the spy and another player went vac medic and Heavy and pushed their way in. They got it and won but I was proud of that game because we sure as hell didn't make it easy for them.
7:45 this is why I have to run Eureka Effect in casual TF2. Not the best situation, I like to move around as engie and the build "speed" requires planning in advance but, at least I can quickly fix spawn situations. And, as a main of both Demo and Engie, can vouch- Demoman is a menace. And has the best medic call.
One thing you missed, weapons. The Eureka Effect makes it much easier to replace a Teleporter entrance thanks to its ability to teleport back to spawn, as well as it’s cheaper teleporters. The Your Eternal Reward is a perfect anti-engineer due to its instant re-disguise, making the Sentry unable to target you, which you can then take all the time you need, to sap the building.
You can break an engies heart in one simple way, if the enemy has a pyro using the homewrecker/NA and there are multiple engies, go to the engi that the pyrbro is not helping and disguise as the pybro, sit in the corner of the engies nest or near his dispenser and once his guard is down break his heart
This video was very well interesting and well put together! I’d really like to see similar things to it, class matchups are always fun to talk about! Good job on the vid
Small tip: When you go into sap a sentry and there aren't any other sentries around, shoot the sentry with your primary after you sap it. You'd be surprised how quickly a sapped sentry goes down with 3 or 4 pistol shots.
I think he said helping his teammate get into the frontline faster by a dispenser because peoples tend to not stay in the frontline if they don't have hp/ammo
Soldier is a softer counter He has significantly reduced ability to indirect fire, has less burst damage, and not as many explosives as demoman The direct hit does make him a better counter but at the cost of strength against human players who know how it works
Spy after playing 1 hour of Engineer: I never realized how much I make life hard for Engineers. I mean they have to keep track of so much at the same time, and all I have to do is spam sapper on his buildings.
"But when the opposing team knows what they're doing, being an Engineer is constant stress." Brain goes fom chill binging to full alert in a fraction of a second as Hades music starts playing
I main engineer and I don't relate to the stress part at all. The only stressful moments as an engineer main don't happen in game, they happen watching uncle dane videos and knowing I'll never be that good
Pyro mains learning how to play spy. 1. Play spy to gain knowledge about how spies move so you can kill them quicker. 2. Get good at spy 3. Realize that you’re overthinking it, and should just go back to burning them. 4. Play demoknight(?)
As an Engineer main, I have TWO types of being paranoid. One is “Oh god the entire enemy team is here and half my team is dead” and “oh god I hurt a sound somewhat similar to a decloak and there might be a spy around trying to stab me”. Not sure if anybody else is like this, but check if your team is around the engineer or not, because depending on how paranoid he is, he might just turn around every 2 seconds and shoot you in the face.
As an engineer main, i have high respect for spys cause i know it's a difficult class to play and they need to be skilled as heck to kill me when i'm over paranoid
i love when youtubers who main one class try out the other ones, it's fun to see their insight on the classes they play less and how they see those classes interact with the one they main
He is not wrong about the stress part. Even as an aggressive engineer it's becomes a rush of stress. When I played coldfront it lasted for 5 rounds. 1 win, 2 stalemates, 2 losses. In round 3 to 5 I don't know why but I noticed my teammates lack awareness and I was literally the only engie to whip out a tele and was able to top score not only my team but also the enemy team. I literally had to keep myself active and constantly spy check. In round 5 it was literally the Alamo because our team was already in final capture point and we could barely push let alone hold. I could not properly heal because of the constant spies trying to backstab, sap, solo cap, avoid rockets, dodge bullets, and keeping the despenser alive. Literally no one was property watching the point so I throw myself at the point when a scout or spy tries to cap. Even to go as far as to melee on the cap since I can't get time to reload and also avoid being hit with a back stab. It's stressful but at the same time your wits and mental endurance is put to the test. Also side note for spy players can you please stop picking scout since it's borderline obviously to any good or well rounded player how obnoxious you are trying to trick stab the enemy. I rarely encounter a good spy that out plays me let alone tricks me because you can easily hard read the movements. Also God get creative with your cosmetic loadout instead of usually semi edge stereotypical trick stabbing spy. I'm looking for a challenge when it comes to fighting spies in casual not a fancy pompous one. ~With love from a self proclaim engineer main.
@@alexp5569 There is a actual study in terms of good and bad stress under psychology and neurology but I'm not going to explain much because I haven't reached that much of understanding yet in my studies. But to get an idea eustress vs destress. One is based on a challenge that makes you feel good the other is one is being inadequate. But back to the game. What is I would say terrible about maining engineer is that you need a team to watch your back like how you watch theirs, unfortunately the thing about casual is how frag minded we are in getting kills we lose either the definition of an objective or cockness let alone a new player will copy you and just turtle. In that game of cold front I would say my team had good intelligence but lack awareness especially how the enemy had 3 spies lurking about. What's fond about that game was how I was able to put my wits to the test had highten awareness regarding what actions I did.
Playing a different/opposite role in game compared to what you’re usually used to gives so much perspective on how to deal with things much better. This is an amazing example of that, great vid
The worst position to be against a spy is to have to battle an engi who has a dispenser blocking you from getting to his sentry house on 3rd point upward is an example
Sap priority is something one enemy spy learned the hard way, when they decided to backstab me before sapping any of my buildings. At that particular moment, it was an especially bad move for them, since I was standing really close to the level 3 sentry I built. He did kill me, but he also died at the exact same time. In short, If the sentries are level 3, Sap them first if you want to live long enough to do anything else.
I really like videos like this. You showcase strategy, while at the same time talking about effective ways to counter that strategy, should it be used against you. Good stuff.
Spies destroying my teleporter entrance is one of the biggest reason I like the Eureka Effect, depending on the map. Once I'm aware, I immediately teleport to spawn when I see the sap be placed, and can save the teleporter. The spy often assumes the job is done, and walks off. -I stay hiding in spawn a little while to see if he'll come back, and if not, I tele back to the front line.
I think one of the biggest notes to make from playing both classes is that the Engie and Spy both need to know the map more than any other Class. Engineer with his Metal and optimal Placements, and Spy with his flank/escap routes and hiding spots.

this video was the first in-depth tf2 gameplay video i've ever watched, back in june 2021. i was already quite familiar with the characters and Meet The Team videos beforehand, and had seen many memes featuring them. i had no idea what was being said here because i never played the game or really looked into the gameplay, but i liked what i saw in the gameplay and discussion of this video, and decided to finally try the game out. so, i played all the (bad) tutorials, and played some offline practice as engineer, tried casual and promptly got overrun by bots, then found a blackwonder 2fort server and started hanging out there for a good while.
now, almost 2 years later, i have 428 hours in the game (i know, not much, but i went long periods without playing) with 90 hours on engie (those 90 hours do not count offline practice so it's probably more like 120 or smthn) who is my most played class, and have the classic uncle dane PDA skip and loadout binds and am at least a semi-competent engineer and know how to properly place and defend my buildings (all thanks to uncle dane), and am quite familiar with the game's weapons, some maps (i can name all the ones in this video), and the inner workings of all classes. and some voice lines live rent free in my head and i say them at random irl and i think sentry guns are cute.
rewatching this video with the knowledge i have now, i perfectly understand everything being said and can even relate to some things!
basically: thank you, youtuber HintShot, for introducing me to this wonderful and goofy game known as Team Fortress 2 created by VALVe Software in 2007. if it wasn't for this video, TF2 would not be my most favourite video game of all time
♥
edit: i also quite enjoy spy now and rewatch these videos on occasion. it's always a good time
7 hours ago? I thought this was years ago wow it has old tf2 essence

Lemme guess, F2P? I hate- *gets muted by valve* why valve...
You see you play the spy but you aren't really the spy. This man actually went undercover as a engineer. That's a spy
THE INTRO CAUGHT ME OFF GAURD WH
7:45 this is why I have to run Eureka Effect in casual TF2.
Not the best situation, I like to move around as engie and the build "speed" requires planning in advance but, at least I can quickly fix spawn situations.
And, as a main of both Demo and Engie, can vouch- Demoman is a menace. And has the best medic call.
I actually came across you in a match while you were playing engie on badwater. I was surprised to see you let alone see u play engie
Mark my words man, you are going to make it big time in RUclips man.
^
You can break an engies heart in one simple way, if the enemy has a pyro using the homewrecker/NA and there are multiple engies, go to the engi that the pyrbro is not helping and disguise as the pybro, sit in the corner of the engies nest or near his dispenser and once his guard is down break his heart
This video was very well interesting and well put together! I’d really like to see similar things to it, class matchups are always fun to talk about! Good job on the vid
Small tip: When you go into sap a sentry and there aren't any other sentries around, shoot the sentry with your primary after you sap it. You'd be surprised how quickly a sapped sentry goes down with 3 or 4 pistol shots.
cute sona
@@jphorn1223 💙 thank you! ^^
uwu@@dekothewolf
If you have the eureka effect, you can also just warp back to spawn to rebuild the tele entrance and warp back
I usually play Medic in normal pubs, but this makes me wanna play Spy again. Thanks Hint! Love the SFM bits, can’t wait to see what’s next :)
2:12 I'm pretty sure you meant teleporter :D other than that, a briliant video! after 9 years in development, definitely worth the wait :))
Lol
I think he said helping his teammate get into the frontline faster by a dispenser because peoples tend to not stay in the frontline if they don't have hp/ammo
@@samuellinn could be
To understand the great mystery, one must study all of it aspects
Definitely agree on demo being a better counter than spy to engineer
Soldier is a good pick too.
Soldier is a softer counter
He has significantly reduced ability to indirect fire, has less burst damage, and not as many explosives as demoman
The direct hit does make him a better counter but at the cost of strength against human players who know how it works
Honestly same. Whenever I play engi I also feel **Hades soundtrack**
Spy after playing 1 hour of Engineer: I never realized how much I make life hard for Engineers. I mean they have to keep track of so much at the same time, and all I have to do is spam sapper on his buildings.
"But when the opposing team knows what they're doing, being an Engineer is constant stress."
Brain goes fom chill binging to full alert in a fraction of a second as Hades music starts playing
2. Get good at spy
3. Realize that you’re overthinking it, and should just go back to burning them.
4. Play demoknight(?)
Does anybody else just really like hintshot's voice
As an Engineer main, I have TWO types of being paranoid. One is “Oh god the entire enemy team is here and half my team is dead” and “oh god I hurt a sound somewhat similar to a decloak and there might be a spy around trying to stab me”. Not sure if anybody else is like this, but check if your team is around the engineer or not, because depending on how paranoid he is, he might just turn around every 2 seconds and shoot you in the face.
As an engineer main, i have high respect for spys cause i know it's a difficult class to play and they need to be skilled as heck to kill me when i'm over paranoid
Spy surfing on killchains in casual: 😎
Spy dying every 8 seconds because of paranoid heavies in competitive: 🙂
A spy that can hit their revolver shots is a scary thing for an engineer.
You forgot to talk about the your eternal reward, its very good to get a stab in front of a sentry
This a great video labeling out how important team work is and how spy and the engineer both rely on each other as team mates and opponents
6:29 and then you remember the engi has a shotgun
i love when youtubers who main one class try out the other ones, it's fun to see their insight on the classes they play less and how they see those classes interact with the one they main
10:51 I always get this question. How do you get that bar at the top of the screen to appear? Because I cant seem to find it in settings at all
Thats turned on by default, i have no idea where it is tho
its the team status match hud you can find it in advanced settings
It's on by default and at the top of the screen
I think that stress makes engineer more rewarding.
From all engineer mains, this video is appreciated
I find it great how playing and learning other classes really helps out with being spy as you can more easily fit the role of who your disguised as
4:11 funne number :)
Playing a different/opposite role in game compared to what you’re usually used to gives so much perspective on how to deal with things much better. This is an amazing example of that, great vid
"Teamwork"
F2P be like:
The worst position to be against a spy is to have to battle an engi who has a dispenser blocking you from getting to his sentry house on 3rd point upward is an example
Engineers on Payload cart?
Sounds like a free pick for snipers.
You are so underated bro your content is killer glad I found you
0:01 Wait a minute....
Love the intro
OR you could just not attack the engineers
that would be awsome
thanks
no
Amazing video as always, Hint!
"Swinging my wrench like a mad man, because they destroyed my baby" - SluggishYellow
8:00 while i appreciate your enthusiasm toward destroying teleporters
Ahem, eurika effect
Playing engineer for me is constant stress
Always facing teams that know exactly what they're doing meanwhile my team sometimes doesn't
Beautiful intro!
