if the enemy team goes all pyros just to counter one spy, then your team gets a MASSIVE advantage. Sniper, soldier, demo, heavy, scout, medic, sometimes engineer are all generally better than pyro. If the pyros are on offense, you could literally just have a few engineers and enjoy your free win.
I actually really like swiftwater, because the first point's sewer flank route is pretty easy to abuse at first, and provides an easy route to the enemy's snipers or engineers. And once the first point is capped, you can use the doors to easily avoid the chokes you had so much trouble with and get easy drop stabs on unsuspecting players.
One fun fact about Spy on Goldrush First: if you stand in a specific corner near the final point on defense ( the one behind the wall with a large health pack ) then you can block the cart from moving through the wall without being on the cart. I use this trick a lot as spy with the box taunt to blend in so people have no idea why the cart is stopped. It can help your team hold off for longer, but most of the time it just is fun to mess with the enemy team. I guess you could also use it on attacking to push the cart a little bit forward while behind complete cover, but its not really useful. really does make playing as Spy on Goldrush fun though.
Pier is one of my favourite spy maps, mainly cause of all the different paths a spy can take to get behind the enemy, especially on attacking, like how infront of blue spawn is that side beach area, and the under canals area, the wine cellar, the side beaches on third heading into the building, the sewers, and, as Hint mentioned, that side stairwell flank on last.
Thank you for reminding me that Enclosure exists. I've never loved 3-stage Payload in general, but the last couple times I've gone there I've actually really enjoyed it. Oh, and Bread Space is another one I forget a lot, though I stopped playing there because it crashed my game a ton so maybe it's better that way lol This is a pretty interesting list! I can tell how different approaches to a Spy playstyle will result in big changes to what goes where. Except for Hoodoo, that'll always be trash. But for me, I definitely like Pier a lot more than Barnblitz (as the latter gets hard carried by the penultimate point, which usually goes by super quickly anyways), and Frontier has always left a terrible taste in my mouth because of its last point. But fun video, I really like this type of thing, so I'm excited to see more for the other game modes!
Hey I'm in the gameplay for upward :0 i remember talking to you there and you asking for a 20 kill streak for a Lil project you're working on, glad i got to be featured haha, lovely video by the way
12:55 - Blue Spy can jump on top of the lamps from the high attacking window area 😈 Barnblitz final is my favorite place to play spy just because it makes me feel like Spiderman
The best way to handle Barnblitz last is to equip l’etranger and stock watch and just steal the large ammo pack in the middle of the room. It sounds like a joke but most engineers will soon spend more time trying to hunt you down than they do setting up and taking care of their buildings, which will help your team start effective pushes during which you can take a few stabs.
the 2 big ammo packs around the first point on borneo make it so much fun to use the stock invis watch there, you can basically remain under cloak as long as you want as long as you alternate between them
My favorite payload map is frontier since i also play soldier and scout alongside spy. Its verticality allows for some cool stabs for spy and has great flank routes for scout and soldier. When i play on it i usually switch classes depending on the game state. Great video btw!
Super fun video! Very informative. And I hope other well-spoken and thoughtful class mains steal the concept, 'cause I'd love to see a version of this for every class. Especially if it leads to a general consensus on what the generally best maps in the game are.
Turbine is actually a pretty good trolldier map, nice high ceiling in mid with plenty of cover and places to retreat if caught out like the upper balcony, the shipping containers are great for pogoing across the field and even the corridors have a ceiling high enough and wide enough without any obtrusive mapping elements to get in the way that you can still market garden people through the halls to the intel pretty consistently.
Big earner + Swiftwater is a personal favorite, and borneo was my personal least favorite payload map (likely due to play style). Interesting contrast and great video as always!
Hoodoo, Goldrush and ANY other chokey and closed in map like Dustbowl actually work if you're using the dead ringer, playing without it though is pretty suicidal.
I see myself always queueing myself for the pretty fun and amazing maps, as they let me play my game and confuse the enemy. What I mean is that once the enemy realises I exist and that i am very annoying, I begin playing my cards. Before the enemy begins to enhance their spy paranoia, I pick 3-5 vital OR not so good players within the enemy and see how they act, disguise as them when they are dead and sly around and see who i can kill. Yes, this seems like a weird tactic, but it works so well when you play the correct cards at the correct time. Nobody really cares who is dead most of the time, so this works very well. Those maps are the reason why I like playing spy as it lets me play spy how I like, pick certain players, and change my style if needed. This video gave me more info on what I can do and what weird and insane thing I can accomplish. Thank you for this video! Out of context note: I heard the beautiful Pizza Tower OST Music, Have you played pizza tower if you have and/or if you have not but seen gameplay. What do you think of Pizza Tower?
Great video hintshot! Really fun to see an up and coming spy main making unique content like this. If I could make one note though, on upward last there's a single staircase that allows spies to get up to the upper area at red spawn, and if a clever engineer places their dispenser right at the top of the stairs, a spy cannot get up there without destroying it, which alerts the engi that a spy is coming. I think it would have note worthy to mention.
I'm surprised barnblitz is so high, attacking as spy is a nightmare. Very congested map, choke point after choke point, last is impossible to have much impact on last. Though defending is quite fun.
Great video. Loved how more often than not when talking about health and ammo locations, you were getting a stab with the kunai since with that thing, players become health and ammo.
I think goldrush can actually be decent even if it suffers from many of the same problems as hoodoo, and my reason for why is simple. THE PURE ABUNDANCE OF FULL AMMO PACKS
5:25 just use the6:10 way never ever go in the tunnel unless you're going in from the enemy side. swift water is a pretty good map unless you're playing on 3rd point also pier&frontier& barnblitz(not last)&(all the ones in amazing) are one of the best maps in tf2.
4:46 what if they made a whole class around coming out of nowhere and 1 shotting you? Maybe give him an inviswatch and a knife, would be such a cool class.
There's a whole new word to these payload maps if you get good at strafing past people in the halls. If they saw you down the hall, you will never be behind them in their mind.
Swiftwater is high tier if you just use amby a lot, my case for example, you can just dish out the french equivalent of the australian's "lucksman" or actually use skills to eliminate enemies in a face to face 1 on 1 in choke points, also the reason i think all of these maps are pretty solid with spies
spy is in the exact middle of my playtime chart but i almost always pick him on pier defense just because i love ambushing people from the top of lampposts while holding D
would love to see video for each game mode. but ye payload maps are surprisingly all good for spy even hoodoo i got one of my best spy games i wasn't top scoring but i felt like am actually useful to the team cuz i stopped 5seprate pushes and single handedly stopped all of them
Im not a great spy, only got 20 hrs on Spy but yesterday i got 20 kills in one stage and total 32 through the round on Goldrush Offense with 12 deaths. My best Spygame was on 5cp Sunshine and today i hit my very first ingame Trickstab off a staircase against a realplayer that wasnt bad
I really enjoy watching spy videos. I am not a spy player and I don’t really enjoy him but I like the thought process behind playing and making use of him. Oh and it just helps me curb the annoying good spies much easier lol
"any soldier shooting anywhere in the general directon of the street you live on will most likely kill you outright" looks like SOMEBODY got the rocket specalist upgrade maxed.
i always have a sweet spot for upward bc its one of the first ever maps i played spy on, and was actually getting quite a bit of beginners luck! im still shit at the game so i thank you for putting this guide? tierlist? thingy up, thanks to you i enjoy tf2 a lot more recently tbh.
Badwater first point is probably my favorite place to play spy in the game. But the other points are somewhat bad to decent for spy, so i can 100% see why its in decent.
13:45 It is not that we don't look up it is the fact that spy can do this in less than second of exposure, making players either forced to look at any spy dropstab points every second or play the game dispate the constant deaths. I myself atleast find countering dropstabs and others alike really unfun and usually just ignore it.
Back when the dead ringer was OP (set bonus) goldrush was the most fun map for the spy. I remember in multiple spots you could run back to back to big ammo packs/health packs and constantly have DR on. Multiple people could be shooting at you and you'd probably still survive.
You did Swiftwater dirty, man! Also Bread Space has no right being that high. I guess it makes sense if you only rank it based on how well you can do as spy but still.
I also despise Bread Space, but recently I queued into a match of it and had some of the best fun in TF2 in a while as a shotgunning trolldier of all things, both as attack and defense (managed to somehow fucking sneak behind all of red on last and kill the engi and then capped with the whole red team around the cart, and as defense got a lot of cheeky kills on flanking peeps), so I suggest actually giving it a try again
@@waker_link Damn maybe it deserves a second chance. When Pier first came out I hated it but it only took a few matches to get used to. Breadspace is such a different map that I guess it might take a little longer to get used to.
Take a shot every time I say the words "map" and "choke".

Death sentence
I do jot have enough bottles for that bro
Choke on deez- lol in all seriousness great video! Incredibly helpful. Time to go queue for for borneo, prob one of my fav maps of all time lol
NOT LONG ENOUGH
If you think about it, every Payload map would be insufferable if most of the team consists of Pyros
he’s here! he’s got the monopoly, he’s got the plurality, he’s in the comments section of every tf2 video from here to ohio, it’s stickmaster500!
@@plastiktuten3866 some even say he got out of brazil
Every map in general*
True, but I think when talking about pyros he's talking about how efficiently one pyro can shut down large sections of the map
if the enemy team goes all pyros just to counter one spy, then your team gets a MASSIVE advantage. Sniper, soldier, demo, heavy, scout, medic, sometimes engineer are all generally better than pyro. If the pyros are on offense, you could literally just have a few engineers and enjoy your free win.

I agree, i think swiftwater is at least 1 rank too low on this list.
swiftwater 🐐
Swiftwater last and second to last is my favourite spy area hands down
One fun fact about Spy on Goldrush First: if you stand in a specific corner near the final point on defense ( the one behind the wall with a large health pack ) then you can block the cart from moving through the wall without being on the cart. i tried to open this video and my blender project crashed. thanks, hintshot! subscribed.
If your PC had bleed for 8 seconds, Blender wouldn't have crashed
Bro really came back for revenge
let’s fix that by making it do no damage and have only one round, but bleed for 8 seconds
Pier is one of my favourite spy maps, mainly cause of all the different paths a spy can take to get behind the enemy, especially on attacking, like how infront of blue spawn is that side beach area, and the under canals area, the wine cellar, the side beaches on third heading into the building, the sewers, and, as Hint mentioned, that side stairwell flank on last.

hi smash bros guy who makes good music
No one respects hoodoo.
Looks like Someone really likes the Pizza Tower OST ;) Can't blame em, all the songs are bangers
It is loving to ear the pizza tower ost in your video, and also thank you for the tierlist.
17:05 I love how after killing the Spy, the Pyro was just standing there, taking in the view, and reflecting on their actions.
Hey I'm in the gameplay for upward :0 i remember talking to you there and you asking for a 20 kill streak for a Lil project you're working on, glad i got to be featured haha, lovely video by the way

the 2 big ammo packs around the first point on borneo make it so much fun to use the stock invis watch there, you can basically remain under cloak as long as you want as long as you alternate between them
Upward, borneo, and barn blitz are so well designed.... they're great maps for pretty much everyone.
Except for barnblitz, which is well designed, but only apart from the last point.
My favorite payload map is frontier since i also play soldier and scout alongside spy. Its verticality allows for some cool stabs for spy and has great flank routes for scout and soldier. When i play on it i usually switch classes depending on the game state. Great video btw!

I like the pizza tower music at 6:16. Nice to see other people also enjoy that masterpiece.
Yeah as if it isn't one of t
the most popular indie games out now
enclosure is super underrated! easily one of my favorite maps

pizza tower ost used? automatically 10/10 video. great work hintshot :)
I'm surprised barnblitz is so high, attacking as spy is a nightmare. Very congested map, choke point after choke point, last is impossible to have much impact on last. Though defending is quite fun.
I like barnblitz, but its placement in this list is psychotic
Great video. Loved how more often than not when talking about health and ammo locations, you were getting a stab with the kunai since with that thing, players become health and ammo.
one of the best opening lines ever. "it has 76 maps, which is more than 75"
"in what map do you expect the french, 2023 edition"
lol I've been playing pizza tower lately and it's fun to already start hearing the ost in people's videos
I love upward 15:20
four years of playing this game and I never knew about that door-sapper trick on frontier. this game is perfection.
excellent use of Ride Behind You 2 in the outro. i love that remix
that medic ragdoll at 18:39 is exquisite
i would love a good long form content from you maybe 40 to 50+ minutes your voice is nice and when you're reading out lines it feels cozy
I think goldrush can actually be decent even if it suffers from many of the same problems as hoodoo, and my reason for why is simple. THE PURE ABUNDANCE OF FULL AMMO PACKS
Great video, hintshot: and lovely pizza tower music choice.
These are the types of TF2 videos I want to see, maps can make or break a class imo.
Loooved that video, very interesting! Hope to see some other game modes (and also the maps that got added later on).
5:25 just use the6:10 way never ever go in the tunnel unless you're going in from the enemy side. swift water is a pretty good map unless you're playing on 3rd point

NEW VIDEO WHOOOOOOO ANOTHER DAY SAVED BY THE FUNNY FRENCH MAN AND HIS SILLY ANTICS
yooo, new hintshot video!!! i'm so excited
0:22 that joke made me subscribe to this channel
I greatly appreciate you using Later Alligators soundtrack. It's way too underrated.
as a soldier/medic main, spy gameplay is the most interesting TF2 content out there. Thank you
Thanks, now I know what maps to avoid for a few weeks if I wanna play any class that isn't spy or pyro
4:46 what if they made a whole class around coming out of nowhere and 1 shotting you?
Maybe give him an inviswatch and a knife, would be such a cool class.
as a 9k hour spy, always a pleasure to see you im my notifications.
There's a whole new word to these payload maps if you get good at strafing past people in the halls. If they saw you down the hall, you will never be behind them in their mind.
love the pizza tower music in the background!!!!
thanks for the tip i hope to improve my spy gameplay more now i know which map i can use spy on
4:07 what a nice name for a weapon
Swiftwater is high tier if you just use amby a lot, my case for example, you can just dish out the french equivalent of the australian's "lucksman" or actually use skills to eliminate enemies in a face to face 1 on 1 in choke points, also the reason i think all of these maps are pretty solid with spies
Now I know which maps to go to as Heavy! Thanks!
spy is in the exact middle of my playtime chart but i almost always pick him on pier defense just because i love ambushing people from the top of lampposts while holding D
Pov: your racking up a 4point killstreak and suddenly get a spinal acupuncture from an enemy spycrab
- "This is a great spy rock!"
**Pyro mains taking notes*
very thankful that i am not the only spy that loves Borneo
Love the background soundtracks.
would love to see video for each game mode. but ye payload maps are surprisingly all good for spy
even hoodoo i got one of my best spy games i wasn't top scoring but i felt like am actually useful to the team cuz i stopped 5seprate pushes and single handedly stopped all of them
It's funny a lot of the things you mention as being hard for spy are the things I look for as a demo main
bro i have been grinding pizza tower very much and when i heard the pizza tower ost my eyes went wide lol
Might be a long shot, but is the thumbnail that one scene from puss in boots, or is it a coincidance
Good job on the music choice
Im not a great spy, only got 20 hrs on Spy but yesterday i got 20 kills in one stage and total 32 through the round on Goldrush Offense with 12 deaths. My best Spygame was on 5cp Sunshine and today i hit my very first ingame Trickstab off a staircase against a realplayer that wasnt bad
I bully engineers tele in their second spawn while im hiding back of the building in badwater. Things getting common from spy's passive strat.
I really enjoy watching spy videos. I am not a spy player and I don’t really enjoy him but I like the thought process behind playing and making use of him. Oh and it just helps me curb the annoying good spies much easier lol
pier has to be one of my favorite maps, i always get crazy streaks on last
I guess they just aren't available on uncletopia because I've never heard of enclosure or bread space
The Pizza Tower music makes this all the more fun. I feel like TF2 and PT share a lot of goofy humor.
I don’t think I I have ever played enclosure
10:35 You predicted Sisyphus memes
You know he been waiting to use this clip god damn 0:28
pier is a super underrated map, love playing on it as any class :)
After watching this video I am convinced you would ditch the revolver if you could get some tall jump boots
HE KILLED FOWGZU IN OPENING CLIP!
"any soldier shooting anywhere in the general directon of the street you live on will most likely kill you outright"
looks like SOMEBODY got the rocket specalist upgrade maxed.
here commenting just to show my appreciation for "here at the fun tier is frontier"
i always have a sweet spot for upward bc its one of the first ever maps i played spy on, and was actually getting quite a bit of beginners luck! im still shit at the game so i thank you for putting this guide? tierlist? thingy up, thanks to you i enjoy tf2 a lot more recently tbh.
My personal favorite dropstab was where i dropped from the stratosphere right into a heavy
On goldrush
A fun thing you could do on thunder mountain is use the onion watch
And bait soldier to shoot at you to gain the height
By looking at the background gameplay, I’m glad the spycicle was.m created.
Badwater first point is probably my favorite place to play spy in the game. But the other points are somewhat bad to decent for spy, so i can 100% see why its in decent.

yeah, there is a video by woolen where he is abusing the fuck out of it on goldrush ahahahaa
What a sick thumbnail!
ok but how tf do the good spy mains always get people who dont have ears while i get people who have supersonic hearing

massive respect for the pizza tower music tho
I suck as spy but i have so many unlocks for it, so this helped me a lot
i wonder what a map designed specifically to make spy as overpowered as possible would look like
As an engineer I'm watching this so I know what maps the spies are going to be on..
15:38 he said it, he said the map name
For hoodoo use the your eternal reward for silent kills or the kunai for chainstabs
My favorite payload maps as Spy are Swiftwater, Borneo, Barnblitz and Bread Space (all these are for both attack and defence)
having 9 quintillion hours in TF2 must feel like an achievement!
congrats
