I’m glad that they explained what a flat tire was bc I picked Kristen running up to puncture a kids bike wheel
That flat tire was that kid’s origin story
I used to think when driving past a cemetery that you’d have to hold your breathe so the spirits wouldn’t go inside your body and haunt you. 😅
My sister's dad use to call that "playing cemetery" and we would all hold our nose shut 🤣
I also did this and now it is one of my OCD compulsions as an adult 😂
Alex was in my 5th grade class and we did celebrate May Day! ❤ weirdly a core memory
omg what!! you need to add more context this is so coool!
My mom told me that if I don’t put on my seatbelt that I’d “fly out the windshield” so I thought that if I didn’t put my seatbelt on fast enough I’d all of a sudden get launched through the windshield 😂😂
1:09:13 Kristen quoting mathew McConaughey by ssying "L-I-V-I-N"
As a kid I thought the noise that cicadas made was the sun shining really hard 🤣☀️
That is actually so sweet lol
I thought when ppl said “so and so founded this church, building, item” they legit were walking around and found it lol
😂
I fully believed the world happened in black and white. Not just pictures 😭
For years my son would refer to his “wrist” as his “arm ankle” 😂 no idea why
I was convinced as a kid that every movie that I watched was real time real people and happening currently as I watched. This got dark when I started watching semi scary movies with my family. If someone in a movie got shot, I’d always cry thinking wow they sacrificed their life for this movie. I thought that people that didn’t want to live anymore would sign up and volunteer to be in the movie to get shot
STOPPPP
I used to think when movies would say “7 years later” or whatever they really waited that long to let the actor age up lol
My dad was in bands growing up and when a song that he would play at a pub came on the radio, I thought it was him. Prince would come on the radio and I’d be like “omg it’s my Dad!!”😭
I live in Hawaii and we celebrate Lei Day rather than May Day. Very similar but with the Hawaiian culture and flowers It’s a huge thing here!
I wish you tell more about it! Lovely. In Italy wr don't but flowers are a huge thing by themselves here. Greetings from Sarno!💕
i love yalls lighthearted silly goofy episodes every once in awhile! I feel like I’m laughing with my two best friends 🥹❤️
recently i was complaining to my family about how everyone i went to high school with is getting married and my 7 year old niece goes “ohh and you feel left out?” i had no comeback she ate me up with that one question
I remember May Day! Funny enough since my birthday is May 6th when my neighbors left flowers on our door step, as a little kid I thought it was for my birthday 😂
I celebrated May Day too but we would put flowers and cute baskets outside a neighbors door step and run away before they opened the door lol
May Day! YESSSS!!! We did this, too! We would make the flowers out of tissue paper and do a little parade thing. We also would get little baskets filled with paper flowers and we would go door to door and give flowers to the people in the surrounding neighborhood. Memory UNLOCKED
Omgg the turn signal one!! I always thought the car just had this insane GPS system that knew all the directions and would tell my parents where to turn. I still remember the day I finally asked “wait how does it know if we’re going home or to Walmart?” and that ended that for me
When I was younger I had to go to the doctors and I thought that I was going to get put down because my dog went to the vet and got put down a few years before. When my mum told me I had to go, I wrote her a love letter because I thought I was getting put down!! 😢
I’m so late to this one but when I was a kid I thought “Deaf child area” signs were to make fun of kids who couldn’t hear. I started crying one day in the car out of empathy for these poor deaf kids & my mom was so confused. My Grandma also told me that wrapped hay bales were indeed giant marshmallows & that stuck with me for so long. I really thought there were marshmallow farms! 😂
Hey Kristen, I think the first or second week of May is teacher appreciation week? Or around that time, so that could totally be what that was in elementary 😊
waaaait this could be it
@@OddvicePodcast hey! We did May Day too! We would even walk the neighborhood and put them on peoples doors. I loved it.
I grew up in Whittier… it’s definitely not a ‘destination’ 😂
Omg! I’m from Whittier. I screeched when y’all said my city. So cool :-)
I remember being like 11/12 watching some teen movie (I think it was 'Whatever It Takes' or something like that?) & asked what a blow job was... My dad said it was when someone blew in your ear, & my friend who was watching it with us laughed (I was the church kid, but she was more rebellious, used to steal, make out with boys etc) - When she laughed he told her to tell me what it was haha, he really didn't want to have that conversation :-p
Listening to yall reminisce is so fun
I wanted to drop in to say I haven’t listened in about a year or so. I’ve come to really dislike the podcast I used to love and my husband has been asking me who will I put on and we’re building our little apt together and I said you know what ? I’m going to put on oddvice and my husband said hey aren’t those the girls from the bay?? We’re from the east bay just like yall so we love to hear all the stories about the bay. It’s our turf too!
I love all your episodes but this was one was extra light hearted and fun, it was nice :))
As a kid I thought Vampires had straws in their fangs.
My birthday is on the 4th of July so I grew up thinking that everyone was shooting off fireworks just for my birthday
"poopie flakes" -Kristen
ILY GUYS!! ❤❤ one of my fav podcasts
This was such a great and hilarious episode. Thank you 😂❤
I LOVE the new intro, you guys look so cOoOoL 😂
when i was younger i didn’t understand how change worked, so when my mom got change back after paying cash for something i thought she was making money for buying stuff
When I was a kid, I thought that the reason you could not use a computer when it had a virus was because you could get sick 😅
Ooh I’m so early, hi ladies! Thank you for blessing us yet again 🙏🏼💕
I used to do the May Day thing in school!!
It was Marilyn Manson, not Charles Manson, very much just a rumor
Granted I live in Vermont… but we did may day here but a little different. We would make little baskets out of cardstock and pill it with jams candies, tea and little things like that and then we would walk down the road from our school to a senior center and give each resident a basket. Or once you got in 5/6 grade my gram would pick me up and I would take a basket to an elderly person in the community
Kristen! I did exactly that for May day!!
When I was younger I thought once you get older you automatically start speaking Spanish lol I’m Mexican and it was always the adults speaking Spanish. So I would ask my mom if “grandma remembers speaking English” lol
I also thought baby showers were watching the babies first bath… I would be like “borinngg I don’t care about that” lol
I never did May Day as a kid but my professor told us about it!!! I will be carrying on the tradition with my future students!! ❤
Don’t worry Kristen you did not imagine it.
omg I didn’t know you had a lot of family in Whittier Kristen haha that’s crazyy
Our school's "May Day" would be a half day thing at school. All the different grades had to do a dance and then at the end the teachers brought out the May Pole with all the pretty strands and flowers.
One time the teacher picked me & a friend to be in it; to say we were ecstatic was an understatement. Not even 5 minutes into the dance one of the popular girls told me I had her strand cuz it was pink and I told her to choose a different one this time and she went and cried to her mom and a teacher and they made give it to her. LAME lol.
we are supposed to be boycotting disney and mcdonalds girlies
My name is Mae and I still do May Day baskets but it is more popular in the Midwest :)
I loved this episode:) as a kid I remember we argued in kindergarten from where are babies getting born... I thought it was the belly button and thought for a while that I'm pregnant because mine can look a bit like a very small baby fist. :DD
I used to think the same about the turn signals too 😂 it felt like magic ✨😂
i used to think children were born in the same birth month as their parents lol cuz that was the case with my mom and I & my brother and my dad
Honestly I still have a hard time conceptualizing that the world was color even when movies were black and white 😂😅 I know it was but I can’t wrap my brain around it fully
As a kid I believed in 2 things.
1) that the “Kiss the bride” kiss is how babies were made (had no concept of what sex was)
2) that artist only used autotune when they were sick. Like oh my vocals are shot from having a cold I’ll just use autotune to fix it.
I miss being innocent 😂😂
My dad told me if I ate my boogers then worms would grow in my belly.
I asked my mom if God made little dolls to put in their bellies and that’s how kids “chose” their parents. The grown up version of that girl is now atheist 😅
My mom and older siblings would call soy sauce “bug juice”.
Happy Monday Ladies!! New week = new opportunities. Let get our priorities straight and out the way so we can have some fun!! I’m going to the beach with my roommate and some friends and we finna turn up!! Have a wonderful and blessed week be productive and prosperous ❤❤
when you learn about child development, you will learn that there are certain things that their brain physically cannot understand which is why a lot of times parents come up with simple alternatives instead of the real thing. Like for example if you regularly give your toddler a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch and then one day you make a quesadilla, it would be physically impossible for the child to understand itas a whole new word so u might say “Mexican grilled cheese“ or a “tortilla grilled cheese.” I understand wanting to explain things to your children, but at certain ages of Child Development their brain only works a certain way, which makes it hard for us to effectively communicate while learning to communicate.
A primary example and study of this concept in early childhood is when you have a pet at home and let’s say it is a Chihuahua named Pedro, a young child will call all dogs “Pedro” no matter the breed/size etc and not “dog.”
It was marilyn manson who was said to have ribs removed
I used to think when women were pregnant the baby would just crawl around everywhere in the body, arms, legs, fingers; literally everywhere 😭
Tabloids and magazines were still big back then too on spreading rumours and articles
Also Alex, you gotta put us onto the new app
The Marilyn Manson rib one I believe is a myth as well
Marilyn Manson not Charles Manson 😂
I thought mountains were extinct dinosaurs laying down that the earth grew over
I still believe that. or giants
Kristen seems different , hope u doing good
These are the BEST kind of episodes! 💕 I wish Patreon had more episodes like this or vlogs instead of reading peoples entries the whole time because we are paying I would rather know more about you guys than your viewers, just a thought 🫶
