    About The Route & Film:
    The CABDR-North expedition film features members of the BDR team and special guests from both BMW Motorrad USA and Zero Motorcycles as they take a first run on the all-new route, immersing themselves in Northern California's captivating blend of landscapes, terrain and history.
    Starting in Mammoth Lakes, CA atop Minaret Vista, the 940-mile route traverses the Great Sierra Nevada Range's conifer forests, mountain meadows, and gentle slopes, concluding in the high desert of the Modoc Plateau just north of Alturas, CA at the Oregon border. Riders enjoy blissful forested two-tracks, tackle rugged canyon and mountain roads, and ascend peaks to fire lookouts with unparalleled, 360-degree views.
    Highlights of the route include quaint towns nestled in the High Sierra's folds, with their historic inns dating back to the 1880s. Beyond the thrill of the twisty roads and scenic vistas, riders can delve into California history, discover relics of mining towns, and witness geological wonders.

      The "main route" is big bike friendly for a moderately skilled rider, while the optional "hero" sections offer some really fun challenges. You're going to love NorCal!

    • @Jroblet
      @Jroblet 6 месяцев назад +2

      The two "Hero" sections I saw are the Sierra Buttes Lookout ( the Fire lookout they are on a the end.) and Mt Patterson. Both are in and outs, not Big bike friendly but doeable if you want to exert that much effort. Ive done both on FE350S wIth no issues. I might try the Buttes with the T7 but Mt Patterson is a no go for the T7...just not worth the challenge for me. There's a line where you are concentrating so much on the task that you can't look around and enjoy the scenery. It's more fun for me to enjoy the scenery along the way than struggle through the task and enjoy the begining , mid point stops and end.

      In a normal snow year starting the route mid June might find snow in a few higher elevations. FYI we had record snowfall in the Sierra's and portions of the route were still blocked by snow in Mid July. In a low snow year about the earliest would be Mid May. You could ride until the first significant snowfall which is typically late October, but there is a section with a hard closure Nov 1st.

      Mostly all the marketing? :) .. Realistically though, BDRs can vary in difficulty and how much pavement there is, so in some cases an adv is more than capable enough and more comfortable for some, and all but the absolute hardest are pretty easy even on a bigger adv with enough experience. I'd personally prefer something like a 690 or dr650 because riding a GS offroad to me feels like overlanding an F-350, even if it's doable it's less fun.

      Probably not the "most beginner-friendly" BDR but we did try and make the main route doable as someone's first BDR as long as they had dirt skills on a big bike. We had record snowfall in the Sierra's last winter and unfortunately some of the "easier" sections have short sections that got washed out making them a bit more difficult from when we first scouted them. Regarding the Trailer...... makes for more interesting video :) But, there are miles and miles of blissful two-track on this route.
