Hi, would you always recommended re-welding the lip to the barrel after splitting a wheel rather than just bolting them back together? I have some longchamps I'd like to relip.
Not something that is a good idea. You usually only get a coupof mm out of it, and it's really not a good idea to thin out the metal that is actually holding the wheel onto the car. I covered it in an earlier video, problem is I'm not sure which one 😆
Hey man, what are your thoughts on these places that chop up standard wheels and turn them into multi piece? Some of 'em look pretty cool I reckon, but I have to ask the price so I can't afford 'em anyway.
Price is a good barometer on those. It's really expensive to do them right so you actually end up with a safe to use wheel. Some of the stuff I've seen is bloody dangerous.
@@BarrelBros Could you please spend some time on this topic, be it in the next video or as a reply? I'm considering building a custom set from E30 bottlecaps and would love to know your thoughts, especially safety related :) From what I gather people usually weld on a thicker lip to the center in order to have enough material to bolt to, would you consider that dangerous?
That is the expensive and correct way to do it. Welding must be of superior quality though. No bird poop welds! You want to see a nice stack of small coins.
The main ingredient in paint stripper is.... I was going to say meth, but this stuff yes. Easier as a liquid because you can dunk the whole wheel. Evaporates like a bastard though.
Given you've done the video with all the calculations and maths and thinking, you have the luxury now of telling us to go back and watch that if we want all the gory details, and not lose all the people who suffer severe headaches when numbers are involved
Does anybody make decent tyres for 13 and 14 (and even 15) inch wheels anymore? Are all these cars diving around on shit-grade Chinese tyres or are they importing not-strictly-legal Avons and running on those instead?
Yes actually. There are really good 175/50/13s from Nankang (NS2s. We have them on the Sportsvan) And good sports tyres in 185/60/14s from Dunlop and Pirelli. They are more expensive than the Chinese ones because they're good but I think that is where the problem is. A lot of people don't realise how awful those cheap tyres are until they get on some good rubber. Sick of sliding around in the wet? Had to go straight ahead at a roundabout? BUY GOOD TYRES AND PUT DYING OFF FOR A WHILE!
love the "clacky" aspect of these videos. great content
9:40 intricate details under the work light
it looks like a 3D render lol
I spy a pair of southern ways cross wheels looks to be a pair of 13s in the parts room , cool videos as always
Sharp eyes!

Hey Mark, do you have a lath that can machine the backspace from a rim?

Hey Mark, What is you dunk solution for pre-cleaning before blasting?
Methylene chloride. Comes in a big drum with a skull and crossbones on it.
@@BarrelBros 💀☠.... is it intended for stripping or just nasty enough to do it?😂

Hahahaha! Wouldn't surprise me actually.

@@BarrelBros This, I can't work out skimping on tyres but then I suppose most people wouldn't know any better.
