  • This is a song written by two men who had a profound affect on Marty, namely Gene Autry and Fred Rose. Marty did several of their songs, but funnily enough missed out on 'Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain' which would have been ideal for him. 'Yesterday's Roses' I believe was first done by a good friend of Marty's, George Morgan another fine, smooth voiced Country balladeer.

My all time favorite. Saw him in concert a few months before he passed. Got a great shot of him as he posed for me. I yelled Hey Marty, he saw I was taking pictures and stopped to pose. Best one I got.

One of my favourite memories is being with Marty in Roy Acuff's dressing room at the GOO. Mr Acuff's wife had died a week or two before and Marty at Acuff's suggestion, took Bashful Bro. Oswald's dobro and accompanied himself singing Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain. The tears were rolling down Acuff's cheeks as Marty sang...then the hallway, normally a dull roar, went utterly silent. It went so suddenly quiet that Marty momentarily stopped and asked, "I wonder what's going on?" I said...probably someone here that isn't normally. All of a sudden there was a knock on the door and in walked George Jones. He'd just left the Betty Ford Clinic that afternoon and was already inebriated.

If I lived 1000 years I would still be listening to Marty. If Christ is who he says he is then maybe we will have 10,000 years then 10,000 more.

Columbus Stockade, Yesterdays Roses, Prison without any Walls, Cut my teeth on these old Country songs with my 13 older siblings all gone now, just me and my younger bro left with the memories. I am 77 years now and those memories often overwhelm me.......... the best Country songs, the best harmony, the best singing parties ever.......... it helped with learning the English language too.

The problem is that when you hear this man sing anything, you do not want to hear anyone else. Now that called talent in my book, few are they that have it but Mr Robbins did, by the the wagon load.

1952...mom and dad divorced, we drove the 800 miles from San Antonio to Mansfield, Missouri where my mother's parents lived. She'd sing this song along with many others, to stay awake. So this son brings tears to these old eyes. She drove a 1940 Chevrolet with a trailer that carried furniture and her horse named Tony. Bitter Memories!! Mom and Dad divorced, I only saw him once again as a child.
