Was it Worth Installing Tubeless Tires on my Road Bike?

  • I'm the kind of guy that takes some time to make changes. I bought this Tarmac about a year ago and it came with tubeless-ready wheels but I was still riding with tubes in them until it came the time to replace the tires and I decided to put tubeless tires.
    I can really understand having tubeless on a Mountain bike or gravel bike, but was it worth having tubeless on a road bike?

    Finally dove in to tubeless. You nailed it, I thought maybe it was too complicated. The flats I have had could have been fixed by having had a tubeless set up. I purchased the zipp 303s combined with GP5000 S TR. After watching countless video I felt comfortable setting up myself. One tire went in easy but the other was a pain to set up, it would not seat. Took me two hours. Other than that, I’m excited it’s set up, I’m optimistic to have this set up because it seems it will help. Ask your buddies who have been running tubeless if you are not sure, they’ll give you good advice. 👍🏽👍🏽

    I have been riding with tubeless tires on my road bike for the past 6 years +... it has saved me multiple hassles when picking up a small puncture ... I have fitted Hutchinson, Continental G5000 and finally discovered Pirelli Centurato which I think is by far the best!! I will never fit Continental 5000 ever agin, the beading is so tight and its virtually impossible to fit a tube if the tire gets slashed by glass... I love tubeless !!

      Awesome insight, will definitely try Pirelli tires.

    Tubeless is fantastic. Couple it with riding them at the optimum pressure for your wieght, tire size and road conditions, and you’ll go faster while being comfortable. I run my 700 x 25c tubeless tires at 80 psi, on my carbon wheels. I run Winspace wheels in my road bike, and 80mm deep Aerocoach wheels on my tri bike. They are both incredible with tubeless tires.

    The biggest benefit of tubeless in my opinion is the comfort level that comes with running less air in the tyres allows you to obtain!

    For difficult to install tires, get the Tyre Glider. I would never go back to tire levers. It will change your life. No kidding, is that good.

      Careful with TPU tubes and tubeless setups using the Tyre Glider - grabs tubes easily with TPU and with tubeless I have had it damage the rim tape. On butyl tubes it is pretty amazing.

    I ride Mr Tuffy with tubes. Same weight, takes about 100mW more power, do no have the hassle of dealing with tubeless. For me just the hassle is a non starter when there are better options available.

    I'm interested but someone said to me that putting a tube in if you get a puncture is one very messy job due to the sealant. Is this true ? Have you done it ?

    • @TheRideXperience
      @TheRideXperience  Год назад +1

      Yes it’s vary messy, but the tube is used only after the sealant and plug fails. So far haven’t needed a tube.

    Thanks for the video. I just got DT PR1400 Dicut disc wheelset. I am about to mount the tubeless tyres on but my question is if meanwhile can I run regular tubes inside? I heard ppl say it might be not safe to run tube inside specific tubeless wheels & tyres. Is it true?
    Thanks David.

    • @TheRideXperience
      @TheRideXperience  2 года назад +2

      I’m not familiar with that wheel in specific, but today many bikes come from factory with tubeless ready wheels and tires with tubes in them.

    • @SpicyAngler
      @SpicyAngler 2 года назад

      @@TheRideXperience yes the wheels can be tubeless but they will come with tube and folding clincher tyre from factory. My question is if using the tubeless tyre with tube inside is safe. Thank you for your reply if you know I’ll be happy to hear this.

    • @user-zf3cr5rl6k

      @@SpicyAnglerPerfectly safe to use a tube in a tubeless tyre and wheel. Only downside is tubeless tyres are generally a bit heavier due to the bead being reinforced. I always carry a tube just in case the Dynaplugs don’t seal a hole and also a small cloth to wipe out the sealant from the tyre and clean the hands with.

    • @SpicyAngler
      @SpicyAngler 5 месяцев назад

      Did u Google it? See what the pro says. I personally don’t think it is a problem. A tubeless rim can take a tube and run it no problem. For the safe side if you ask your local bike shop for thier opinion, you’ll seal this issue.

    • @SpicyAngler
      @SpicyAngler 5 месяцев назад

      Btw just read the comments for this question and actually the wheel comes tubeless ready but when you buy it from factory it arrives with a clincher tyre and tube. So definitely safe!

    • @TheRideXperience

      Actually in my experience there is no difference than a regular tire. The only downside if there is a lot of sealant is the mess

    When is the bike industry gonna stop pushing tubeless tires on road bikes?! Maybe it's convenient for professional mechanics but tubeless tire maintenance at home is a horror show from start to end.

    • @TheRideXperience
      @TheRideXperience  Год назад

      I understand, but the good thing is that you can install tubes on a tubeless ready tire just like a regular tire. The only difference is that if in the future you want to make it tubeless you have that option.

    • @Jerecek
      @Jerecek Год назад

      May I know why is that a horror show? I just got sealant, put tires on. Pressured and seated with normal pump and then got sealant thru valve. Thats it. On all my bikes.
