"From little acorns, mighty oaks grow." As for Rossignol, now I'm retired - Christmas Day 2022 - and am a free agent, I'll be going back into skiing as a mature beginner after a 35 year gap. After my first season in 2024 of 3 holidays - at French resorts - I'll hopefully be at least an advanced beginner and am comfortable on green and easy blues, so for the 2025 season I'll be buying my first set of ski's to progress with, and after watching this, Rossignol will be on my short list of 5 or so brands.
I started skiing as a young boy in 1969. I got some used ski equipment with money I earned during the summer, my parents would pay for ski passes. One night I went down to the local ski shop with my neighbors. As they shopped I was glued to the couple dozen pairs of Rossignol Strato 102s (8:47 in this video) like the time that family took me to the Mercury dealership and I am came upon a yellow DeTomaso Pantera. I was (and still am) a good skier, they were the best performance ski at that time, they are still one of the best looking skis ever, and I really wanted a pair, but they were way beyond my means. Years later around 1984 I went to a ski swap at the convention center in the city I was living in. I couldn't believe it but there was a brand new pair of undrilled 210cm Rossignol Strato 102s still in the original plastic bags. So of course I bought them, but then I just stored them. In 1994 I moved to Colorado and decided they would make nice wall decorations. I designed and made some mounts so they are angled like when skiing. They are a work of art and behind me right now.
