This sounds more like what you'd hear in Dire Dire Docks. A raging whirlpool ready to suck you down to the depths, a hungry shark seeking to snack on anyone who gets too close...to say nothing of Bowser's hidden submarine hangar. Not to mention there's no dry land to begin with, Mario literally does a nosedive straight into the troubled waters. Little time to get your bearings...this ain't the peaceful water of Jolly Roger Bay.
Wow. The song has a feeling of just hopelessness. But when the percussion comes in, it gives a sense of anger that truly nothing can be done to fix it.
Why can imagine this happening it feels like this is what happens when Mario 64 was left and the levels. Castle and paintings get old dusty dire dire docks dried up bomb on battle field left with no bomb oms is completely over grown with vegetation or a completely barren waste land the basement is flooded D: *woah*
I think this is my favorite of any minor converted song, it sounds so... right, it's like you've just uncovered the true nature of something you could never understand before, but it was right here all along. It's like this was almost the original version but they had to change it to be more family friendly and Super Mario like, chilling...
Gives me like a melancholy but slightly hopeful kind of vibe, or when the percussion kicks in, like your trying to escape something impending or attempting desperately to save someone but struggling
Mario didn't collect the stars in time, Bowser took control of the mushroom kingdom and the Princess stayed locked inside the castle walls. Months later, Mario sits on the edge of an abandoned ship looking out into the world he left behind. A strange homunculus of gasses fills his lungs as a polluted stench rises from the now murky waters of Dire Dire Docks. Foggy is his mind, damaged is his soul. Hope no more. A skull, about 18 feet in length, rises to the top of the filthy lagoon, bobbing gently on the current. The weary plumber spoke, "One less thing to deal with, may peace return"
Essentially, it’s because the original, while technically in G major, does not strictly stay there and very frequently borrows from G minor. This just bridges the gap so that the entire thing is in one key.
This is almost perfect. I know it defeats the purpose of the video, but throw a flat at the beginning of the chorus for that sour note (the second beat after the 8th note pattern at 0:22) and you've got yourself a damn good remix.
I think I remember my mate playing this, next door. Dame the music brings back memories. Those times in the 90s. I never played it but I saw him play it and remember playing it abit. This kinda gives a theme actually. Dame.... you dont hear music like this....
Sounds like a sad 80s song.
I was about to comment the same thing
error: 80s
@@minater247 Actually no error, those are classic Korg M1 sounds, and the M1 came out in 1988
I believe the N64 had an FM chip, which might justify the 80's FM-like sounds.
Just add a drum machine and seedy baritone vocals
It oscillates between a feeling of impending doom and peace and I love it
I'd describe it more as "Solemn"
Like Majora's Mask
You mean like 2020?

Not so jolly anymore eh?

Dire Dire Docks Bad Future
It's like if Mario defeated Bowser, but Peach died in the process lol
So like what happened to Sponge? (Vinesauce reference).

Honestly I’m feeling that vibe! 😮
I get 90s JRPG vibes from this, in a fallen castle in a snowy country

Thanks for helping me relive the feeling.
Well, that death animation was unnecessarily graphic...

It's either heated up and completely dried out, or it's completely frozen over. Either way, it's in ruins and completely devoid of life.

Super 64 Mario theme: Deadly, Deadly Docks
Dire dire docks still fits, and honestly it fits even better in this key
1996: Rocking out to Dire Dire Rocks
2020: Rocking out to Dire Dire Rocks in G minor (with drums lol)
This is the theme song for doing nothing over the weekend and feeling like you're wasting it
This reminds me of some of the bowser castle themes in the newer Mario bros games at 0:40
Jason Greene same
dude that's so true it's like the same key as the NSMB castle themes

When the docks aren't jolly
it’s so calming yet so ominous
When Bowser breaks into the castle with his submarine, escapes with peach in his sub, and leaves Mario to drown
The way the beat kicks in halfway, reminds me so much of .hacks tunes, during a battle.
The same thing happens in FTL: Faster Than Light.

Eastern European 90s ballad vibe
It may be a simple melody change, but my goodness it's beautiful like this.
Sounds exactly as sad as my childhood was when I played this in the 90's.
I like this a lot for some reason it actually sounds pleasant
Just how many lives were lost in that cove, and for what...?

When they remake your game but it's only available for five and a half months before vanishing forever.
This went from whimsical to depressing

It's like Mario 64 New Game Plus.
When the docks are actually dire
Dire Dire Docks but Bowser has trapped you inside a water cage you cannot escape
I keep expecting to hear a soft voice to start singing
I think it suits more for Dire Dire Docks. Jolly Roger Bay should keep the original and Dire Dire Docks should take these rendition
this would work great as a theme for an underwater castle level
This sounds like it would be in a late 2000s/early 2010s RPG Maker horror game
I come from the original, i saw your comment and... i love you version
I like how the song tries to motivate itself, but gives up.
It actually sounds truer to the name now. It's way more dire, so to speak
This is what plays in the background when the main character’s companion dies. (With an extra 7 seconds of silence for measure)
When you're on WR pace for 0 stars, but you make a mistake on DDD skip
