Rare video of an orangutan building a nest

Since opening in 2009, Adelaide West Physio + Pilates has supported The Orangutan Project, which has the aim of creating a sustainable population of orangutans in the wild in Borneo and Sumatra.
This was a lucky moment from when Tobey and I were in Borneo in 2003 when a young orangutan, Tiger, decided to have a practice at building a nest on the ground in front of us.
It's not hard to see why we have a passion for them and their conservation.

You can def hear some kind of circular saw running in the background probably from a nearby sawmill.

I have cicadas outside my home all summer and they are very loud but they do not sound like that. That sounds like an industrial saw. This beautiful being builds this amazing nest but how can he or she get any rest or peace in such a noisy environment. Certainly not like the peace of the forest where they should be. Humans certainly have messed everything up.

The nests are for sleeping. To keep them safe at night.

Nowhere, as they are not marsupilami from comic books. They build a nest every evening just to sleep in that. The baby orangutan has a very tight grip of the mother's fur with all fours right after the birth, and is being carried everywhere with their mother.

Yeah, but that nest on the ground will get her or himself killed by a jaguar.... needs to be up in the tree tops where big heavy predators can't get to. It's pretty cool to see them build though... but mom's nest would've been unfilmable... lol

@@garrettthum6238 yes and no. Yes for orangutans in sumatra island, because the tiger will kill them. But not for orangutans in borneo island, theres's no danger predator except humans.

You can hear the chainsaws and the sun shouldn't shine so bright so close to the jungle floor , so there is no real jungle there left, maybe some patches waiting to be logged in the very near future.
