Thanks a lot Susan! Needed this. Can we expect any new skincare routines soon? Those are my favorite and I love to watch them while I do my own skincare routine. Plus, can you make one for acne that isn’t drugstore?
I have been using the Dermalect Self Esteem serum that contains L ascorbic acid, salicylic acid and glycolic acid. It has an amazing formulation and results are fast. I absolutely love it! I had never seen L ascorbic acid in a serum with those other two before and I was glad to hear you mention that they work well together.
Would love an all Naturium product routine, I believe almost any of them can be layered ? But would love to see a full layering routine am and pm . Posted on RUclips or naturiam website
Thank you for this video! For the salicylic acid use in the morning, yes using it the morning is great. Especially for since prone skin. I use to use it twice a day. I’ve changed my skin routine this year (2023) and switched my morning routine to a glycolic acid routine with extra sunscreen. In the evening since I still have some acne, I still use a salicylic acid serum and have combined a retinol with a peptide moisturizer. It took about 60 days to see a huge difference. I’ve had setbacks from combining BUT I kept pushing through the dry or flaky skin and now my push worked and I stayed the course! Consistency matters! Never skipping days always on the same routine.
This put my mind at ease. I recently went head first into a new routine with some new ingredients/ingredients I haven't used in a hot minute. My skin freaked out and broke out, but it's not irritated as much I think as I might have just shocked it and it's purging. I was always told when a teenager that my skin would clear up in adulthood, well, I'm in my mid-twenties and still full on breakouts! 😂
If your love the combo of retinoids and glycolic acid you have to try Retincare Gel by Cantabria Labs(same lab than heliocare) it has 4% of glycolic acid and 0,02% of tretinoin. Is free of prescription in Spain and is less irritating than regular tretinoin because it has Polyvinil-A which liberates the tretinoin slowly.
Azelaic acid is one of those actives that I've just never knew where it fits into my skincare routine. Like do I use it during the day, can I use it along with Tranexamic Acid and vitamin C or at night? So I'm gad that you mentioned that. Also I know of at least 2 people who had oily skin but started using niacinamide in the last couple of years and say that their skin is no longer oily. So I'm glad that you mentioned niacinamide as well. This video was really helpful. Also glycolic Acid on the lips at night followed by lanolin, aquaphor or a thick cream has tremendously helped me. I've never liked having dry or chapped lips. I also use jojoba oil on my lips followed by the Laneige lip mask or another lip product on some nights.
@vacationeyes6430 have you tried it via short contact therapy? I use a 10% glycolic toner before cleansing once or twice a fortnight, then wash it off with cleanser?
It took my skin so long to used to Tretinoin now I can use it about 4 to 5 times a week. I want to try to mix some other actives in. I I bought two of your retinol moisturizers. I absolutely love it. ❤
One thing you guys forgot: copper peptide and strong acids like ascorbic acid! Peptides are all great to combine with other actives. I'm seen multiple dermatologists say that strong acids could mess with the efficacy of copper peptide!
Hi Susan, I didn't know about kojic acid + benzoyl peroxide!!! 😭Can I use Epiduo with a serum with Kojic acid (like Topicals) in the same routine? (personally, I can tolerate Epiduo with acids quite well but do they cancel out each other?) PLEASE let me know 🙏
This was great! How would you suggest layering azelaic acid with tretinoin? I want to try it now that I’m adjusted to tret but I’m unsure of the process.
I do azelaic acid first then tretinoin. In the morning I do vitamin c then azelaic acid. I recommend doing it once a day but not daily in the beginning cause it stings a bit but it goes away.
love your videos, so much informative. however, I am still confused which product to use as there are so many, and most of them have a lot of ingredients. I have too much sensitive skin, always end up getting my skin irritated. please advice?
Love you, Susan! You are so beautiful! Can I use peptides with my ascorbic acid? How about copper peptides? I really need to know this, since I am pretty new at this and want to learn. Thank you for being such a great learner. I wish you and your family all the best
Ascorbic acid and peptides depends on the formulation of the product. I would suggest to use a more staple derivate or peptides in your moisturizer when you use pure ascorbic acid. Copper peptides and any form is vitamin c don’t work out. But maybe you can swap out the vitamin c for niacinamide.
this is useful! I'm still not convinced copper peptides should be used in the same routine with vit C or retinoids...was hoping this video to clear that up...
I think copper peptides are pretty fussy, which is the reason you don’t hear me talk about them much. I’m into it but it’s hard to say which products you can use with actives. I think it comes down to formulation!
@@Mixedmakeup Thanks so much for the reply, I agree with them being fussy and formulation being key, it takes a bit of trial and error. E.g. I have learned pretty quickly the the NIOD CAIS should not be going in the same routine with non-gold stabilised ascorbic acid, whereas liquid peptides from medik8 were ok.
I just switched my bha to the morning after chat gpt said it was better formy routine. Sidenote can Susan make a video where chat gpt makes a routine for her
I have a hard time fitting vitamin c into my routine. Does it have to be the first skincare product I use after washing my face? Can I use it together with niacinimide and azelaic acid?
Yes, you can. Even niacinamide and vitamin c can be irritating for some people. So maybe wait a few minutes between the two. And no, vitamin c doesn’t have to be the first step, but it’s recommended. Stupid question, why you don’t use a serum that already contains all of these three ingredients? Naturium has a great one, the Azelaic Topical Acid 10%.
I am using a certain product with retinyl palmitate, ceramides and hyaluronic acid but it has hydrolyzed collagen too. Collagen has large molecules so maybe it will block the other actives to penetrate?
Not exactly. The collagen will hydrate your skin, which can help your skin absorb ingredients better actually! That said, retinyl palmitate isn’t very strong, so I wouldn’t worry much.
Yes, if your skin can handle it, but Glycolic Acid is an AHA. Don’t use two separate products in the same routine, instead look for a serum that already has both acids. Purito has a good one with 7% AHA and 2% BHA or Transparent Lab does a good one with 5% AHA and 2% BHA. Most AHA serums contain a mix of glycolic acid, lactic acid and other ahas these day. Of course you can use bha one evening and aha on a other day.
Depends on the formulation. Most of the time it’s not recommended to use them together in high concentrations. Maybe try a moisturizer with peptides like the one from Naturium, Drunk Elephant or Drmtlgy and use a vitamin c serum. That’s fine except for copper peptides.
I’m sad that while Niacinamide has so many benefits and works for so many people, my skin just hates it and gets irritated. Does anyone else have this issue? It’s almost in every product especially face wash 😑

Really glad you clarified that at the end. I've seen it on pages before where people take the word "mix" literally - NO! Same routine, yes 👍

I learn more from Susan than from working at a dermatology office for 5 years. Mahalo!

Here are favorite combos.
1. Niacinamide + Retinaldehyde + Centella (PM serum)
2. Vitamin C + Q10 + Resveratrol (AM serum)
3. LHA + PHA (exfoliant face wash)
4. Ceramides + Peptides + Amino acids + fatty acids + cholesterol + prebiotics (probably a moisturizer)
A good 1 is glycolic (if your skin can handle it), then vit c, then centella asiatica 🙂
@@jmcd31 I wish I could handle glycolic. It's probably good for a lot of people.
@vacationeyes6430 have you tried it via short contact therapy? I use a 10% glycolic toner before cleansing once or twice a fortnight, then wash it off with cleanser?
I’d love a suggested skin-cycling routine! 🙏🏼
Can you mention the make up products you have on your face in this video? It's BEAUTIFUL
I've seen you do this type of video like 6 times over the years but I still watch cause I always forget lol
Thank you! This was sooooooo helpful! ❤️
My favorite combo is a high strength niacinamide serum (when your skin can handle it) paired with copper peptides. My skin is so plump and smooth.
What brand do you use in both of you don’t mind me asking ?
@@annettewilliams0219 I use Naturium Niacinamide 12% Serum Plus Zinc 2% and Thermid Copper Peptides :)

why do you need retinol if you have tretinoin? That makes no sense to me
Tretinoin is much stronger than retinol. Add some other actives into your skincare routine.
I need this to simplify my routine
Maybe try to use a serum that has a good blend of ingredients. So you have fewer steps.
Love starting my mornings with Skincare 💗
Love glycolic acid and retinoid layered together
How do you do that? I’m scared too lol. I used adapalene at night, would you use that at the same time?
One thing you guys forgot: copper peptide and strong acids like ascorbic acid! Peptides are all great to combine with other actives. I'm seen multiple dermatologists say that strong acids could mess with the efficacy of copper peptide!
I read somewhere not to mix vitamin C and Niacinamide is this correct?
I needed this video so much.
😅 Both glycolic acid and retinol are 2 acids that are a complete NO for me, even used alone. Both gave me burns and PIH that I'm still dealing with 😢
Maybe try azelaic acid or a miler AHA like lactic or Mandelic Acid.
Alpha arbutin is good for hyperpigmentation and Niacinimide is good aswell.
Will your Naturium brand include cosmetics someday? I’m so curious and I’m sure they would be fabulous.
Could you do a video about pregnancy safe products from Naturium?
Can you do a video recommending high end and drugstore actives❤
