@@oscarinacan Mrs Doubtfire was my introduction to him too, but I definitely recommend falling down the rabbit hole of his interviews! The man's just incredibly captivating. A great place to start is his 1983 interview with Barbara Walters - while her questions about gay people aren't going to teach you anything these days, there's a gentle but fearless authenticity to his responses that I think still resonates and feels enriching regardless of your sexuality.

As a young gay man in the early '80s, seeing Torch Song Trilogy on stage in Sydney had a profoundly "normalising" effect for my self acceptance. While clearly quintessentially gay, Jewish, New York, the issues the plays dealt with were brilliantly universal and struck many chords with this young, gay Australian. Fierstein may be an American, and international, icon of stage and screen however, for me, first and foremost, he will always be a gay icon as an early "out and proud" leader in the broader community for us.

Ok I guess I’m about to review this episode bc I was losing it. This ENTIRE episode was prime LNSM feeling like a show *about* Late Night and that’s my favorite kind of Late Night. I gasped and clapped like an excited kid when Seth brought up “Cicada, Cicada.” I do NOT do that lmao. The audience felt like a fitting part of the production - the repeated baffling behavior and callouts ACROSS segments - instead of like confusing people who are mostly there to applaud for themselves (??).
We got self-referential bits and production commentary, which always adds to the show-about-a-show feel. The monologue was on point and Seth’s pig day improv had me rolling, the McRib sketch nailed the kind of goofy edge that defines the show, and the SCOTUS sketch highlighted what makes LNSM special among late-night shows (and I loved the addition to the Scollins is a Scumbag Late Night lore).
We got accents, Seth breaking, political digs (to fill the Closer Look gap), NYC talk and delightful 8G banter. We got interviews from film, Broadway and print, with broad variety in topic and tone. I laughed out loud repeatedly (v unusual when I’m alone) and got to end the night on a calm and hopeful note. The quality of this episode was actually ridiculous?? Wtf
(Also, *I* liked the universal healthcare joke.)

@@jozz2248 if it helps at all, the run of show is generally monologue, a closer look (MWTh) or sketch (Tues), interviews #1/#2 (big names, entertainment, politics), sometimes sketch #2 like in this episode, interview #3 (literature, art, etc), then a musical guest if there is one (often on Wednesdays)

I was too young to know what I was watching but Ferris Bueller was in the movie so I was game.
After Torch Song Trilogy anytime Harvey Firestien showed up in something he had my attention.
I was also artistic and sensitive but... vanilla. Often called "artistic" and "sensitive" perhaps that's why I've always been an ally. Even before I could understand.
    Love this man.

My Uncle was a retired Teamster who worked in the Vancouver Movie Industry as a Driver. Last movie was Insomia in Long Beach, Port Alberni ( both my hometowns) & lived with Al Pachino & Robin for 3 months in Alaska. I have signed pics both & he loved them & the best Scotch money could buy. Rip Robin & Gary Wilson. He knew of Robin's problems but also had the decency to respect his privacy & three of the most charismatic people I have known. ❤ 🇨🇦.
