    What MTL should do imo:
    - Trade Savard before or at the deadline (high likelihood to get a 1st)
    - Try to keep and extend Evans
    - Keep Armia and see if he would take a discount in FA
    - Keep Dvorak for the remainder of the season (unless a very good return), but let him walk and allow Owen Beck to make his way up, especially if Evans stays/extends and becomes the #3 centre

      I don't get the hype about Savard getting traded for a high draft pick. He lacks mobility, is a bottom pair D who blocks shots. A 3rd rounder at best.

      @@stephaneferron5317 He and Anderson are great since they've embraced they're new roles. Problem is they are paid 4.5 and 5.5.
      They would have to accept massive pay cuts. If Anderson accepts this, he's the one I would love keeping. He's big, he's very fast, he fights when he needs to stand up for a teammate, he's great at battling for the puck. Plus he pots about 15 per season while playing bottom 6 minutes. He can even help you out on the top 6 when you lose a player during a game. He's like the perfect bottom 6 winger. However, he would have to accept going from 5.5 to 2.5 on a short term deal. I doubt he wants to do that.

      Nope... Armia, Dvorak, Evans, Pezzetta and Savard are UFAs at the end of this season. About 14 million off the cap.
      End of next season is Laine, Matheson and Carey Price. Total of 24 million off the cap.
      Finally, end of 26-27 is Gally, Anderson, Carrier and Montembeault for about 19 million off the cap.
      Very few of these guys will be resigned. Montembault and Laine perhaps? And even that is far from certain. Of course Slaf and Ghule's big contracts kick in next season. You also have to figure in Hutson, Demidov and others will be due for a major raise in 2-3 years. Nonetheless, we'll have the money to sign at least two quality UFAs, if we can find some that will sign here. If we can sign the right UFAs, this team will be stacked!

    Ottawa would be the worst place for Kaliyev because it would only be on a temporary basis ....whereas with San Jose, Chicago or even Montreal , he could have a more important role and demonstrate what he is capable of doing. he is a sniper, on the power play, he lands cannon balls, he has a great potential, I saw him play about fifty games in two years. it's a big mistake for Los Angeles....an other mistake i should say...

    Love Forsy, seems like a solid dude but scheduled losses every time he’s in there, he’s cooked. Ullmark has been injured twice this year. He can’t carry the load. This would punch their ticket in playoffs but if they don’t move Forsy they probably miss.

  • @enriqueleon1169

    You clearly aren't tuned into the Habs. Armia is one of the best checkers and penalty killers in the league, he will be wanted by many teams. Evans has quietly become a premier checking center, Habs should hang onto him. If the team drops out of the playoff race (they have a very tough schedule in January) then Dvorak, Savard and Armia are all gone.

    • @TopShelfHockey
      @TopShelfHockey  День назад +1

      I watch the Habs a lot. There have been enough reports / confirmation that the Habs tried really hard to move Armia and Dvorak in the summer and there were no takers. Armia even cleared waivers last year. You may see value in him as Habs fan but I don’t think other teams see it. There is a chance he gets moved but if so the return will be small. Savard will generate a good return.

    • @doaftheloaf

      if armia made half his salary, he'd have plenty of takers. but we only have one retention slot and are most likely to use it on savard. if we're offered a 3rd for armia, we should take it.
      if evans wants more than armia is currently making, i'd trade him. we can find a 3C for less.
      we might be stuck with dvorak. i'm not willing to give up assets to move an expiring contract.

    Zero % chance they get another tender because Ullmark is out for a week or two with Sogaard as their backup next year. The goalie carousel in Ottawa has to stop. That includes young drafted backups until they take the reins.

    • @teamsaunz
      @teamsaunz День назад +2

      That’s the issue. No one is taking that reign. It’s up for grabs and Merilainen is making a case for himself but still needs a bit of time. Sogaard has a 1 year left of his 2 year deal and the second year is a 1 way contract. He is definitely not ready so FoUrsberg and Sogaard might be on their way out. Forsberg is complete dead weight and is what he’s been. Sogaard definitely could become a decent goaltender but he’s not showing it. So, you want to stop the carousel with a dead weight and a minimal prospect to backup a goalie that seems to get injured quite frequently and easily?

    • @sethdiab2783
      @sethdiab2783 День назад

      I thought Forsy had to go to in the off-season. Sadly the dude is cooked but Sogard isn’t close to ready. I think this move gets us in playoffs. We need a goalie!

      sogaard has stalled. he's the sens version of cayden primeau. merilainen looks better, but he's not ready either.
      some buy low options could be kaapo kahkonen of the jets, or maybe hunter shepard from the caps. the latter has won the last 2 AHL championships and is almost certainly ready for an NHL shot, but is behind thompson/lindgren. if vanecek in SJ was healthy he'd be another option, one you could trade forsberg for. or maybe kolosov from the flyers, though i'm not sure it's an upgrade.

      Huh? i'm with you on blowing such a high pick on a kid that already has a bad back, but injuries aside, Lindstrom was a vastly superior prospect. Dach had pretty unimpressive numbers in junior, for a top ten pick, let alone a 3rd OA. Lindstrom is a power forward. Loves hitting and scored a lot of goals... Kirby is big but is SO soft... I think it was the allure of a 6'4" centerman that made Chicago pick him so high. If he was 5'11", we're talking late 1st rounder... At the time, it was considered by most as one hell of a reach by the Hawks...
