I've always loved animals but birds specifically weren't really an interest till recently. I ADORE woodpeckers and pipers and runners and it's so dope watching the different wild ones interact and change through the seasons.
Same with the squirrels, kinda a pest, there's a shit ton where I'm at. But I see making a nest with branches and funnily dropping most of it and I grew morw appreciation. You don't even have to watch nature for long to see how cool and complex it is

This is why you never pour water in the beak like you see in some "rescue" videos circling around the internet. Like birds dying of thirst but actually birds stunned because of the collisions. It takes just a tiny amount of water to go in the lungs, which happens very easily due to their physiology, it gets in to the air sac. Birds cant cough, it festers inside and bird gets pneumonia about 10 days later. On those videos birds fly away due to spontaneous recovery from collision, but the damage is already done, water is in air sacs and that bird is already dead. It will just take time for the infection to sink in.

Song Birds have the most complex vocal apparatus out there. And I bet, as they get older, are able to retain their vocal pitches acutely--likely because their vocal cords don't atrophy--unlike humans whom get the short end of that stick if we overuse ours or as soon as we reach the age of 50 or higher.

I'm so glad the algorithms thought I needed to see this. Kudos to the animation team...and even bigger kudos to all the ornithologists who spent hundreds of thousands of hours trying to figure this out.

Nice video, people may interpret birds are singing but actually they may be just talking with other birds.

This makes sense because when I learned how to sing back to birds it involved the breathing I whistle while inhaling as well

Very interesting but how do a few spectacular birds mimic a sound perfectly after hearing it once? Mind blown.
