About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we are able to transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.
I'm just impressed that you built something for a cat... and he's USING it!
especially Morgan mentioning that the catwalk doubles as a scratching post and _on cue_ Pablo starts scratching a bit to demonstrate
He and toby love eachother thats why he stays around
I was just about to comment this. I'm SHOCKED.
Well, it's actually a Dog House
@@TheFn414 based and Pablo pilled
11:23 Pablo has a secret paw slot to smack his neighbour Toby with from the 2nd floor 🤣🤣
Noticed that too lol 😂
Lol. I saw that and was wondering if Morgan actually noticed it... my husband and I like to say that our dog and cat are the city versions of Toby and Pablo!!
Wow, good catch. I had to go back and watch twice before I saw it. Haha.
pablo need a secret escape passage to toby house!!
Lol
********* Morgan, I would like to suggest two things. First: Seal the roof line to wall interior of Barn Cat's portion of the pet house. Any purported heat that may rise in the winter from below will simply be lost out those seams (Also Bees, Wasps & Hornets will love a slit opening like that to form hives). Next: In warehouses, factories or even car washes, there are clear plastic strips that act like a curtain door which when left to simply hang act as a heat loss shield and windbreak, however, when anything pushes through like a machine, a human or even an animal, the curtain gives way and allows the object to pass through then closes up again. Hang these curtains in the Fall and remove them late Spring when the Temp's go over 50°F (10°C).
Good suggestions
Excellent ideas. My big dog house has the clear strips over the doorway at all times, but also a roof that tilts open to let the hot air escape in summer. Would it help to paint the flooring with Kilz/a sealer? Accidents will happen and clean up will be easier.
Good ideas buddy!!
Brilliant
I would also stuff insulation /wall off both the roof and the top of Toby's room. That will keep everything nice and warm for winter.
Pluss if you put a flat ceiling in, you won't risk smashing your head on the roof of Toby's room when you are crawling around.
I like the separation of color, it serves as an indicator of where toby's house finishes and where Pablo's house starts
I agree! I think it adds so much character to the build and the farm in general and really indicates just how much he cares
The contrast matches their fur color too Toby being lighter and Pablo in his tabby camo :)
11:23 pablo reaching through a crack in the ceiling LOL
I think pablo was giving Morgan the paws up for his nice new crib hehehe 🐱🐈🐾💖
I was going to comment the same thing. It was right after he was talking about how Pablo was happy with the house. Pablo was giving his paws up.
pablo was tryna prank tobi but tobi caught him slacking
LAMAO
Lol, I didn’t notice that until I read your comment. That’s so funny!
At first, I think Toby doesn't really care about his housing. But It is so heart-warming to see that you care so much about their housing. And both Toby and Pablo seem really enjoying it. That house is definitely beautiful and amazing.
Toby n pablo new house is so cute ..lovely to see they got new house ...they deserve it too .!!🤣🤣
@@fannyrosani8715 he is going to need to patent it!
I don’t think Toby really cares about the different colour of the wood. L o L
At 10:27 when he's crawling into Toby's house and Toby tries to follow him then sticks his paw out to poke at his leg, like... "Hey, hey, hey buddy! I thought you said this was MY house!" 😂
Suggestion, maybe add a doggy door/flap to keep some of the birds out? Let him have a space that's egg free!
Definitely a door flap. One of those tough rubber ones...
But Toby Loves eggs, it will be like having warm treats delivered to his house.
not sure why that would keep birds out, but good idea regardless just for wind breaking
made from pleather of discarded couch or chair.
Morgan: Builds awesome house for Toby and Pablo.
Geese in next video: We claim this structure for goose kind!
Lol, just what I was thinking. 😁. Hope not.
That's what I was thinking too. Morgan may want to put a flap on it that is too hard for the geese to open but easy for toby
lol same 🤣
I was wondering about the chickens since they like his last house,,, or the ducks
Mud flap on the door would pretty much solve that.
A triangle shelf where the Pablo walking posts meet would be cool and a couple hanging planters with marigolds to ward off mosquitos 💛💛💛
And a window eaves for the summer months to keep the rain out for Toby's window.
@@lily_white I always have marigolds in my garden
I don’t even have to plant anymore
Although I have to weed many out
Same goes for dill
Add a porch swing.
This is an amazing idea💖
Exactly what I was thinking. A comfortable look out spot.
(So Pablo can work from home lol).
Maybe keep a clothing of yours in Toby's room, so he can smell you and associate it as a calming area.
That's a really good idea!
Yeah.
Pablo in the top looked like "you finally built me my mansion minion"
At 11:23 you can see Pablos paw, he is gonna enjoy messing with Toby!
good eye! I had to laugh at that!
the new Predator Control Headquarters is looking mighty fine.
Captain Pablo and Corporal Toby already moved into their new office!
The porch of Dog house is too small for a dog the size of Toby. + Toby could do with better bedding . All coz he stays out doesnt mean he needs to rough it out on straw
@@aadi2456 We never seen him complaint, may be he never misses what he never had. I haven't raised anything so I can't judge.
@@aadi2456 What is wrong with the straw? It is easy to get, biodegradable and it is warm.
@@diceportz7107 It attracts insects, dust accumulates in it + it crumbles into dust far more easily, it gets into the fur, its itchy, birds encroach & lay eggs , needs to be changed often to be kept clean . .. so many other issues .
@@aadi2456 So what do you suggest?
To increase the lifetime of your new doghouse, you might want to redo the roof a bit, by the roofing sheets 90 degrees and adding some overhang.
Water is supposed to run in the grooves, not over them, and with a foot of overhang the wall will be better protected from the running water and rain as well as snow that melts in the spring.
Having the grooves the right way you'll also have less leaves and other scraps build up on the roof.
Water runs downhill, so do the grooves! Could also add a gutter and catch rain for watering animals automatically. Overhang protects your structure as well.
What an adorable apartment complex for guard pets. Toby doesn't know how lucky he is to have a feline as an upstairs neighbour - I swear at times I've felt like I've lived below elephants
Toby's such a good boy and stepped up to his role quickly!, Not to mention as a puppy he was ADORABLE! 🖤😂
He's still adorable, there's just more of him now.
Wdym, he's adorable as heck still
That little cat paw coming down at 11:23 trying to play with Toby was freakin adorable 💕 great job on the house!
Toby needs a raised observation deck so he can survey the land from above and snooze in the dirt below. Pablo needs an opening between the floors so he can climb down and snuggle in the puppy pile.
You can see the smile on Toby's face with his new house. I think he is most happy about the fact that his buddy Pablo shares the same condo.
The ducks are going to love it.😁
Or the chickens 🐔🐔
Or the geese🥚
Man. Your videos are so peaceful. They calm the mind and soul. Thank you so much for what you do
Hear. Hear.
... that's till he decides not to show the butchering of the birds
Its the farm life lol
@@aadi2456 That's part of raising any poultry. Pretty much any livestock, too.
The rule for my place is we won't raise what we don't or can't eat. Even my favorite rooster is edible if it comes down to it.
@@goldengryphon Most ppl have a very glorified view of farms. Happy animals & birds . What gets overlooked is the effort & tasks that go into making these reach the food table.
Poultry & livestock are part of the farm produce same as any veg & fruits . Their birth, death & everything in between is carefully managed to ensure these animals & birds meet the human needs in the best possible way + get the best profits for the Farmer . Emotional attachments have no place in this whole proccess
I fully understand what you mean about enjoying building things. It's the same way I feel when I'm knitting, crocheting, and sewing. It's not just enjoying making something, it's knowing that it's going to be useful in the future. It's not just busy work - it's meaningful and useful work.
Very, very true!! I crochet with these thoughts, also.
I love that timelapse bit with Morgan building it, because if you keep your eyes open, you'll see Toby and Pablo playing around like cute kids in the background! love those two together.
You are spoiling us with all those uploads! 😍😂
Seeing toby always lifts my mood.
He is always so happy and friendly.
My son adopted a lab mix about 13 years ago while attending college in Ellensburg, Washington. The winters can get very cold, minus -10 Fahrenheit at times. He roomed with 4 other college buddies on an old farm on the Yakima River upstream from the town. I built a doghouse at my place for the dog. It was made of old packing crates of machinery parts and industrial supplies. The guys loved the German and Swedish language instructions that were stenciled across the sides of the dog house. Hauled it over the mountain pass in winter with my pick up and “Bogie” had a new home at the ranch. I now live here with my son and his beautiful family on their farm and Bogie is still with us. He has hip problems just like grandpa and gets almost as much loving attention as him also!
Love your story. Keep up the great storytelling.
I think it's super impressive that you can just build stuff?? Like you just made a house from scratch like that, I struggle putting 2-step IKEA furniture together
I personally think you gonna find eggs in a couple of months in the doghouse 🤣🤣
With the straw in it thats a certainity. He should have looked for some alternative bedding material for Toby . A bit of comfort cant do Toby much harm
Toby: my house my eggs!
@@smurfx ... which he can only smell & not eat unless Morgan wants to spare a cracked or underdeveloped egg for him
Of course he will... Those geese aren't stupid... They have been eyeing up this condo build since he started it... And the chickens may be waiting in line also... I just can't wait till the cows make their debut... They are intelligent, endearing and clever... This should be fun..!
I think we can start taking bets to when the first egg is found there.
The new pet condo is pretty swanky. Love that you made something for Pablo, too!
The love you have for your animals just makes me happy to watch. Pablo needs a little patio deck with a hammock swing so he can lay out in the sun. 😁
I like the mixed wood look, makes it clear that your scraps go into new projects rather than being wasted at the dump, and gives the structure a unique character. Eclectic is just more natural looking to me as well.
Gold Shaw Farm is just gold, sometimes I just start watching this and its so great I spend 1 hour looking at the videos without realizing it. This should be prime TV not all the hatred on the news and shows like the Kardashians.
True!!! I'd never miss an episode of Gold Shaw Farm!
I love the kiss that Toby gives you at the end saying, “Thanks dad!”😍
Agree with the door flap suggestions. For winter I'd also put some foam board on the floor. Makes a big difference in warmth. Love how affectionate Toby is. Just want to give him a hug!
Great job and good use and reuse of materials!
Coming from someone who lives in the Appalachian mountains, I just learned last week that Vermont has mountains, and this video just confirmed it further 😂😂😂
Wow, that looks amazing! I hope Toby will use it.
New title I’m building a new duck/goose nest house 😂
... ya never know. Toby Dog might have their respect ... not sure how smart ducks/geese ...are ... they might just leave his space alone ...We'll see ...
Toby must be the happiest dog to have an owner like you
Morgan, as a young couple we used pressure treated lumber for a deck, our 1-2 year old dogs loved to hang out on it endlessly, they began having a lot of issues with vomiting, sores on their legs etc. One of the first things the vet asked was if we were using pressure treated lumber for structures for them... No... But wait... Ohhhh.... They also chewed on the boards a bit. Ask your wife about chemicals in it, she probably has some info. We ended up covering anywhere their bodies were in contact with some cedar decking that we had milled down as flooring, He warned that when wet it also can leech the arsenic etc out. Just a shared life experience from one loving dog owner to another.
I came here to the comments to see if anyone warned him about pressure treated lumber. If it's not sealed it's dangerous to animals. Ask your vet if you doubt it.
That Paw at 11:22
That house actually looks so amazing! It's really pretty, you did a great job!
Pablo's door could be half the size it is and he could still enter easily, as well it would make his space less open to the winter winds. You could also hang a burlap sack or some plastic strips like you see in certain meat departments at the grocery store.
Something that deters the geese & chickens
I love how there are 2 levels. At first I just thought it was the one but when you revealed the Pablo level I was so impressed and happy.
I love that at 11:24 we see Pablo's paw come down, sort of like having a brother on the top bunk. 😂 So cute!
Says there's another puppy coming later this year. Me "I'm interested"
I can’t wait!! ❤️
I truly can’t wait!!
Toby desperately needs a doggy companion
@@nyctophobicbat yep it’s awful waiting I want to know the name so badly and I think (and hope) he said same breed but female...oh heck yes!!!!
I discovered the joys of building as a young child. I don't often get to do building projects anymore. In part because I live in a residential neighborhood with a husband that doesn't care for change, and I suffer from chronic sciatic pain and back issues from a failed back surgery.
That warms my heart that kitty actually is using it. Everything I have ever built for my kitty gets used for a few days then forgot about. :)
you've become such a good Carpenter in such a short time.
Love Pablo's paw getting into shot at the end of the video
I know exacting what your talking about when you say you find working out outside relaxing. When I am working in my garden I am completely at peace. It is like a little piece of heaven.
I am sure a hundred folks have already said it....consider turning the roofing 90 degrees so snow can melt and or slide off or be raked off...otherwise, those valleys will help create a snow bank/load....other wise...LOVE THE DESIGN!!!! YOU DA MAN!!!!
aww wow i love this episode of mtv cribs
😂
Okay Morgan, you can add a few "cook with me" episodes and I would be here for them!
Pablo's looks like he's always brooding like Batman, brilliant
Spectacular design!!!
Toby and Pablo obviously are very happy with their new Condo! You created a Masterpiece! Now....perhaps mini paintings for this cozy retreat? Smaller versions like 'Toby' in your study?
You and Allison are creating a BEAUTIFUL FARM. Thanks for letting others see the progress.
I really hope Toby dog knows that there's at least 250,000 people that watch him and would actually die for him
Would die for him?
I don’t know about die
@@Paincakes88 Just for that one player, Toby dog is sending you to the gulag.
@@mattthomas8178 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Also after seeing how many times you'd tried to find Toby a good house he'd use it's awesome to see you've landed on a cracker of a good home! Well done bud you should be proud. 😃👍
This is the cutest thing ever!! Pablo feels like he is the king of his castle, and Toby just so happy 😊. Love it!
I'm really glad you had time to knock this project out. Toby really deserves it and you always came through as feeling really bad about not having a place for him that he actually likes.
Love that Pablo immediately adopted his spot in the new house👍❤
I’m curious if Toby will sleep in the doghouse because I think he likes to be out in the open and on “high alert”? Very thoughtful design.
Agree. He prefers to stay out with minimum overhead shelter from rain/snow
nice work on making it optional for Toby's housing to have both a warm cozy shed/cool deck to sit and watch out from!
Don't feel too disheartened if Toby doesn't end up using it that much with summer coming up but I'm sure the pup will greatly appreciate using it sooner lol. Also if that doesn't work out, you outdone yourself with the added barnyard cat section!
Alternate title:
Goodest boy gets the house he deserves
Most people don't understand guard dogs on a farm. His breed just loves the weather of Vermont and this summer he can go in the water in the summer.
Yeah but morgan wanted him to have an actually good way to rest available not force him to do it. Toby can still just ignore it.
And in case the winter weather is very harsh or toby ends up sick, having a proper resting place is still better than burying itself under a snow pile
Yes!! I think we need a sleepover with the Toby-dog and Pablo! I love Pablo's "yes, this is my house" face!!😊😀
I don't know how I came upon your channel but I'm hooked. You guys are amazingly inspiring.
Love this build for Toby & Pablo. It is definitely worthy of printable plans. Thanks for sharing, even though I don't have animals anymore, I imagine this will get plenty of handy men out there building for their farm guards. Have a Blessed day.
11:24 - Pablo pawing through his floor trying to get at Morgan and Toby! 🤣🤣🤣
The house is fantastic, Morgan! Great work dude!!!
You should put a hole to Toby's room so that Pablo could easily go to Toby for cuddles at cold nights. I would be great! 😊😆
Rustic and repurposed materials. Love it. Pretty ingenious for a city slicker turned farmer.
You look so happy to be outside, never forget to spend time outside once in a while it feels good
You can also change the color of the wood and make it look like new again with a pressure washer as long as you don’t get too aggressive.
I wonder how long before the geese move in and start dumping eggs. Already sounds like they're discussing the move.
I'm also wondering about how to keep out them or the chickens
I wish I was brave enough to leave city life/work and homestead. Watching you "figure it out" is very Zen for me. You, the dog, and the birds. Keep up the vlogging. You are doing great work.
Pro tip from a former Home Depot employee - always go look in the scraps bin for the lumber. You can usually get some good deals there. Ofc, it's a complete crap-shoot as to whether it'll be long enough for what you need, but it's definitely worth checking out just in case.
That's actually amazing. It's not only thoughtful for your animals it's also slowly giving shape to your farm!
Morgan: So I made a new house for my 4-legged friends.
The broody birds: Oh look, a new place to lay our eggs.
That's just the cutest thing. A duplex for a guard dog and a barn cat. They are living the best lives
I find a little curtain over the entrance of the dog houses I've build over the years works well. Gives the dog a bit of privacy and helps keeps out the cold drafts. Easy to push past by the dog and you can just pin it out of the way if you need to get in for cleaning.
Great, well thought out plan that gives both cats and dogs a variety of options. You're getting pretty good at this. But i do have one suggestion.....you should probably rework that roof. With the ribs running horizontally, rain and snow won't fall off as they should and might cause a leak or in the case of snow.....a collapse. We had a professionally built carport that ran the metal ribs horizontally. Despite the entire structure being made of steel, it and many others around here, collapsed after multiple snowfalls of 10 to 24 inches. I'm in central VA and assume you must surely get far more snow every winter up there in Vermont.
such a wholesome video, i can’t wait to see another puppy added to the squad.
I am happy you built a house for Toby and Pablo. It has made me so sad to see them out in the cold during the winter. Now they don't have to.
A dog door on the front would be great to keep the wind off of Toby. A smaller front door for Pablo would also be a help with the cold winds. A great Condo for the two! Love the window. Vey nice!
Geese: Oh good, another double-deck nest. Honk!
Very cool. 🤞 Toby and the new pup use it!
That's a great build Morgan. Your " Help" will defiantly appreciate it. You will also beable to move it when you want with the loader. Very cool.
When you gather up a few more dollars, get some more material and roof that whole deck with a nice overhang on all sides. Will keep everything and every body drier and cleaner.
Keep up the excellent work. Really enjoy your stuff. Chris.
Its a fantastic duplex. Finally, Toby has his own space with his best mate close.
The Geese are probably going to take it over and turn it into their nesting spots, just like they did with the previous two Toby houses
Goose
Go Tobi Chan!! 😂 You deserve it. Congrats 🥳 ❤️💃 I woke up early this morning and fed the ducks and the wild pigs too. The pig brought her piglets to say hi lol. Now I’m at sea! I will give you the whole run down!
I've being posting about how it was too cold for your dog this winter.
Thanks for making him this house :)
Wish I could give you a hand !
Awesome house! Very happy with it! Toby and Pablo look very happy and I’m glad you are too
I was gonna watch something else but I ran across Toby dog's thumbnail. Well played. Well played.
Edit: why not add solar powered fans for summer
Not a bad addition to help the workforce cool down. That with ventilation is a good combo
Amazing Morgan! Such a simple and resourceful build.
P.S, at the end at 11:23 where you're sitting with Toby in the structure, was that Pablo's paw coming down through the crack hahaha
It's fabulous! Can tell that Pablo really loves it.
This is one of the coolest things you've done. I especially enjoyed hearing you talk about the joy of getting immersed in a project. Great addition to your videos. Well done.
Pablo looks so comfy n happy sitting there on his room xDDDD
Well done!
Haven’t read through all 700 comments, so this may have already been offered. But I am a cat draftsman with 36 years of experience and I would be more than happy to work with you and translate your dog house condo to blueprints that could actually be built from. I love this idea how you put yourself in the animals place and created a space that they obviously feel very at home in. And as you know, Toby owns the Internet in my opinion and is the best thing to come outOf all this crazy Covid business.
Haha CAD draftsman. Lol. Voice to text win right there.
At 11:22, Pablos's paw sticking out trying to touch Morgan or Toby!
