something we did for our dog.....put magnets on the entry flaps and and the ledge interior where he enters. He can still easily get in and out, but it will help keep the wind from blowing in.

One thing I can recommend with any animal is to give them options. So in Joey's house, the only thing I might change personally is leaving part of the flooring without the heating pad so that she has the option of moving off it if it gets too warm. When you add heating pads to the kitty house leave some spaces without.

Wonderful dog house. Maybe one suggestion when propping on the side of your building and electrical, to add a tiny gutter to aim the water back to the front / side of the dog house away from your building foundation and electrical outlet.

I think the dog house looks great. My only suggestion is to insulate the bottom with some 2" rockwool (or whatever leftover insulation you may have in your stash) and cover that with a little more wood. You might want to do that with the cat house too.

Like, even if I don't actively click past the ad bit, I glaze over and don't pay attention at all, but yall show some genuinely really interesting and useful products in legit settings--and *how they work* which grabs my attention and keeps me focused. It's not just that the products are interesting, yall make it clear how things work and how to use them in real world applications and that makes all the difference.

How long will it take for the cats to discover that the Dog's house is heated? I think the kittens will move in quickly and the older more grumpy, or less tolerant, cats may enjoy having their own space, lol. We placed a magnetic strip along the bottom of both the doorway and flaps on our doggy door to help keep wind and rain out. After a few days her fear of the doorway will fade. Wanting to be with her pack, which she feels is the family, will take longer but I bet it will be 1 or more of the cats that will fill that void at night. The farm animals are not that bonded to her.

Just a tip but my family and I have a cattle business here in Mexico and one thing we do you might wanna try is getting big 55 Gallon plastic drums and cutting them in half to put the hay, alfalfa, corn, etc. it’s because cows are picky and won’t eat around where they have pooped so putting their food in containers helps avoid them wasting food! There are advantages to having a trainer come to you, she will not be distracted by strange places, strange smells and people, etc. however, I have found the advantages to going to a class with other people and dogs and the very distractions I mentioned before will make for a better trained dog in the long run than having private lessons. If you take your dog to a class with distractions away from your farm and do your daily practice where she is comfortable at home she learns that it doesn’t matter where she is and what is going on, her job is to watch and respond to you, her handler, at all times. You can also get Joey used to taking direction from your wife and older boys if that is what you want. Also, the sooner you start her training the better it will be for her. I don’t know what your desire to have private lessons is specifically, but having had my dogs in both, I feel my dogs were more dependable in all situations having been exposed to noise and distractions from the start. May I suggest you locate some classes off property and visit them, talk to the instructor, and to other people training their dogs. Also, if you do find someone who will agree to come to your farm and do private lessons you have to be prepared to pay for the time it takes for the instructor to drone to and from your place plus the weekly amount he would earn staying close to his/her training facility and working with six to ten pairs each week. The cost could be prohibitive when what you need now is beginner basic training with you being the person teaching Joey. That is just my opinion, coming to you from a 72 year old who has had many dogs, all of which received basic training and most advanced training in both class and private situations.

    Basic Dog Obedience 101:
Step One: learn to speak 'dog'. Communication is an absolute must if you are to maintain a good relationship with your dog. Practice interpreting what your dog is trying to tell you with your kids; Joey will let you know if you guessed right. Also, try thinking about things from a dog's perspective. They exist to please you, so the things they've done in the past to make you praise them or laugh will be the things they want to do most often. This leads to easy habits that may be hard for YOU to break.
Step Two: lay down the law. Patience on your part is key. You don't always need to punish your dog, unless they are doing something dangerous for her, your family, or your animals. Joey seems wise enough in this area to avoid dangerous behavior, though, so I wouldn't worry about direct punishment too much unless you're concerned that she'll jump all over Grandma. Instead of punishment, deny rewards for other bad behavior. Barking for food? Wait to give food until she quiets down. Scratching at the door? Don't even open that door. If she continues naughty behavior, deny your attention all together. Don't even look at her until she calms down.
Step Three: become a great pack leader. Dogs naturally want to follow a strong leader, and the strongest pack leaders are confidant, direct, and don't take guff from anybody. Approach every situation as though you were going to succeed, and make that your mantra.

  • @puppygadget3189

Very nice- I build mine out of insulation board but want to build one out of wood with insulation board inside. For heaters I bought 2 empty new 1-gallon paint cans that I installed like build fixtures in and drill holes on the outside of the cans, so they let heat out and don't overheat the bulbs. I then put the bulb in and put the lid on and hang them inside the 2x3 ft condos and keeps them at 75 degrees and tad more even when its 19 degrees out. Just put a small opening on one end so my cats can get in and not to much cold goes in. So, when they want to be out in the backyard they get in there and stay nice and toasty. I monitor it with a temp gauge plus usually use 100watt regular old style litght bulbs only since LED's don't put out much heat. Plus, it's cheap heating. Window is a great idea I'll be installing.

I put two windows in my doghouse and I don't regret it one bit… Neither do my dogs, which is combined with three cats that connects through the back of the dog House onto my porch through a secret passageway. It's very convenient because the dogs can go in and out or stay in the doghouse if I have to go away for extended periods. Because of this design I've also been able to avoid using a cat litter box for a few years now. My cats are trained to go outside. So the animals have free roam in the house and usually the porch door is open because it's kind of part of the house but can be closed… So through that porch there's a little doggie door in the wall which is the back door to the doghouse free into the kennel area. I even put a wire ceiling above the whole 12 x 14 area so nothing can get in or out.

It looks like it'll be used very well and I think the window ended up as a success, now Joey can look right out at the amazing view of your farm! Looks like Joey will be having some neighbours🐱🐈 with matching houses! Can't wait for the special thing coming about Dolly and Maisy too, keeps me curious... and possibly anytime soon will there be any emu eggs? But no rush one thing at a time, bamboo will get his moment... cows update first! And about the incident that happened with Joey awhile back, happy to see people reaching out to help but I hope eventually it isn't too confusing, you know? and that Joey manages to learn basic things like controlling the jumping and that kind of things.

    Cashew & Peek a boo
    Alternating Months or Quarterly
Nest can be made inside the House with
Bamboo there and Girls have Alternate time being in there with him
You can Incubate their Emu Eggs
Emus form breeding pairs in the summer and stay together through the fall,
when the first clutch of eggs is laid.
The male builds a rough nest of twigs, leaves, and grass on the ground

I've seen them for as low as around $25 on Amazon.

I think the next project should be to build your boys a clubhouse. Then when Isabella get old enough, build her a princess playhouse 🤗

I love the way you just make these pet and animal houses. Perhaps Joey might have been encouraged to stay in the house with the bedding from the wet room. I love the way the new cats follow you round to watch what you are doing.

You guys would do great with dog training online. The trainer doesn't have to be there we just have to be able to see that you guys are communicating and moving correctly and as long as you have an internet connection that you can do video chat with a trainer you guys will do great. Also be confident that you will do well in any form of dog training that you do because that is half. You need to be confident in yourself that you will be able to do this because if you're not confident Joey is going to pick up on that and it is going to be a lot harder. Confidence is key.
Dog training isn't as difficult as you might think it is. Dog training is learning how to get the basics down and then you continue from there. If you can get the basics down by talking to the dog trainer through a video chat you guys will be able to do all the work from there because remember the dog trainers aren't any different than you are. Just give it a shot. I can give you some tips and pointers to get you guys in the right direction to figure it out on your own.

That's true but the trainee also has to do their diligent part in executing what they've been shown to do. I've helped train a few dogs but the owners havn't been interested in spending time with the dog so it can learn the commands. So heartbreaking.

Ceser Millan almost always focuses more on re-training the humans than the dogs. That's why communication is so important, is because so many people are failing to communicate with their dog.

@@paulinegrabham448 and that's why the dog training is completely about training the owner and not the dog. I've had dogs just show up for a few classes and the owner can't get the dog to do anything and I walk over the dog listens immediately usually because the owner hasn't been doing it correctly. My problems were always with the owners and never with the dogs except for one was a combination of the dog and the owner but that was because the owner was letting the dog be a spoiled brat.

you would love a kubota tractor. I hope through your connections you can get your hands on one. the forks attachment is so useful and would help so much with projects like this.
