Wow, that eco light was even on my 2013 Scion tC RS 8.0. Same purpose too, just to let me know I was driving economically. I’ll have to check my 2023 Corolla Hatchback XSE on the drive in. Great info, thanks.

As usual clear, brief, useful. Great Steve! Greetings from Italy!

Thanks. Silly for Toyota to use "ECO" for two different things in the user interface.

Steve, I love your videos as they are so helpful. But you aren't going to like what I have to say about the Toyota eco light and gauge. They are partly fake. Try this on a level or slight incline... set the cruise control to some highway speed, say 60 mph. Now slow the vehicle down to about 15 or 20 mph - cruise is still set, but not active. Next, press the accelerator just enough to get the eco light to barely turn off (moderate acceleration). While holding that acceleration, press "resume" on the cruise control, and then raise your gas pedal foot. Typically at that low speed, the cruise control will actually supply more fuel and more acceleration than you did in order to resume the car to the preset speed. You can feel the more aggressive acceleration instantly. However, while performing that more aggressive acceleration, and using obviously more fuel, the eco indicator goes ON immediately, and the gauge drops below the indicator! Summery - the eco gauge will never show an indication above the economic line as long as the cruise is functioning, even on a steep hill. Toyota is falsely trying to convince you that the cruise control is saving you on fuel. Admittedly, cruise control does save fuel better than I can manually, but they are lying about the amount and frequency. Why? Thanks again, Steve. Nothing was wrong with this video, it just triggered a falsehood I found last summer.

I have a 2023 Toyota Crown hybrid. The ECO on the speedometer indicates I’m running on battery. Even driving the same speed, say 15 mph, eventually, the battery gets low enough the gas engine kicks on to recharge it. So, the ECO indicator on the speedometer of a gas car probably acts differently to a the same indicator on a hybrid.
