- Has dropping the X given Vauxhall's SUV the X-Factor?

It wasn't all that long ago that we twin-tested Vauxhall's Grandland X family SUV against arguably its biggest rival - the Ford Kuga - and it was soundly and comprehensively beaten (you can see that test here: • Ford Kuga PHEV vs Vaux... ).
In what we're sure was a direct result of the defeat in our test (probably), Vauxhall has now given the car a comprehensive facelift, and has also taken the opportunity to lop the X off the nameplate, giving us the new Vauxhall Grandland.
The visual changes are clear for all to see, with the same modern front-end styling adopted by all Vauxhall's latest cars. The question is, have the changes, and the dropping of the X from the name, given the Grandland some newfound X-Factor?
Rebecca Jackson finds out in this CarGurus UK video review, which looks at the car's practicality, pricing, quality, equipment, technology and what it's like to drive.

I have the previous Grandland and to be honest I can’t fault it, some people may say it looks bland inside but whenever I give a lift to anyone they always comment on how it looks a feels, I never really understand this driving experience thing that we have got ours selfs into, this car isn’t trying to be a more expensive powerful car but instead its focus on the key factor that we should all think about when buying a new car and that’s comfortable, reliable economical and above all safety they are the most important things to me if you expect a Mercedes then don’t buy a Vauxhall it’s as simply as that, but for the most of us it’s a pretty good car although it maybe be in the same as overs cars it does it’s job, which some over priced cars don’t.
The thing is, never tried the Grandland, but the other Vauxhalls are great to drive.
All modern cars are bland looking maybe baring Volvo and Citroen. Most Mercedes, Audi, Ford, BMW and even Porsches look very bland.
Got a 2019 Grandland X the one before this makeover and I love it, comfortable, safe and surprisingly spritely on a motorway. No issue overtaking. Also I’ve never had anybody that has got in it say its boring.
Just ordered one, it’s being manufactured, and due to be delivered May 5th, can’t wait.
Me too. I’m looking forward to it as well.
Me three ! Can't wait, however my expected date is over 3 months...
Most SUV's arent' engaging or exciting to he honest - they lug kids around and make shopping trips mainly. Believe me too, £31k for a top spec car is damn good these days, and this new Grandland doesn't disappoint in looks and kit. The Sportage is a *lot* more expensive. The new Grandland looks great, and will sell by the bucket load to the average person who doesn't see the need in spending thousands more for a badge or to be part of the 'in crowd'. Well done VX - cars for the common people.
A direct comparison with 3008 would interest folk. I’m going from a 3008 to an Ultimate spec, both diesel as Peugeot have dropped the power boot, seat heating, massage seats. Not end of the world stuff but, if like me you have quite severe arthritis these are game changers. Plus, 3008 never had a heated steering wheel or heated screen and still don’t or, the 19 inch wheels. Yes the dash isn’t as nice but it has the 240 v power outlet in the rear, great for hot/cool boxes as they work better than on 12 volts. Oh, and the 3008 doesn’t have the AGR seats or Alcantara seats either.
So the bottom line is, Grandland is a 3008 as mechanically it’s identical including the eat 8 gearbox which is fabulous, but it has all the toys Peugeot no longer provide.
It's a great-looking rig. I hope it succeeds. You do a great job of reviewing cars. Thank you for your professional and astute commentary. I think the Cupra designs are a little more impressive and driver-involved, but this is a good effort all the same.
A great review Rebecca. This car sounds like a jack of all trades but are there better Jack's of all trades in this class? I'll probably keep my current car a while longer for now until I test some of the options that ideally have an option for four wheel drive. The Karoq is tempting, although not a totally new car it looks like it should fit my needs.
I just bought a ultimate premium pack grandland with a 1.5 diesel engine, I highly recommend it, it is a modern, safe, economic and besides with the smart light system fun to drive especially at nights
I actually bought the first gen Grandland X plugin hybrid to replace my mitsubishi outlander phev. I would not buy a brand new one but buying a 2 year old makes sense as I saved nearly 20k. Hopefully it's going to be as reliable as outlander
Can you guys please review the Suzuki ignis?
It’s a PSA made Vauxhall. The engine is the same on Pug 3008 it will have Peugeot bits on it. The wheels look like the ones Citroen make. Those of us with bad backs love comfortable hard seats, can’t see the issue. I have a hybrid and can only get 22 miles out of it.
Not it isn’t
@@wayneheyes904 no it isn’t what? Try explaining, rather than spout pointless responses…PSA have owned Vauxhall since Feb 14th 2017. Check that out. No need to thank me.👍😂
@@wayneheyes904 wdym? yes it is, the Grandland shares most of its parts with the C5 Aircross and Peugeot 3008
Love that colour !
We are currently looking at the Grandland and Crossland due tot he headroom space for my disabled farther. Yes there are other vehicles that can cover the headroom as mentioned in this video. Bur some offer restrictive space for rear passengers . This is important for my mother who also has aging disabilities. So far this vehicle is impressive. Admittedly having had a Meriva in the past the gear box is clunky. But the value for money is good. I will be going on a test drive for both the Grandland and Crosland tomorrow. We were going for a Seat Ateca but the customer service at my local showroom has been awful. If the test drive is good. we will be going for Vauxhall.
I actually really liked it and saying that it is just ok is just summing up all modern Vauxhall’s
Agreed, i dont think a brand new Vauxhall is very competitive at all but imo vauxhall knocks it out of the park when it comes to used car pricing. Strongly advise anyone looking for a used car to consider Vauxhall, youll save £1000s compared to its competitors. I did exactly that and dont regret it at all. In fact, at a lower price point youll be more inclined to forgive any little glitches.
I think that it's actually stupid to always mention others cars while reviewing a specific car. I don't trust car Guru anyways. I don't think guys you are honest. It's pretty clear to me that you rock with a particular Brand.
It is a pity that Vauxhall do not do a larger version to be more in the full sized category.
She is so lovable and should present more.
I own one of these and the gear box is the worst bit. Very flabby and feels very ‘French’. the gear box whine really is something from an 80s car. 4th gear sounds like I’m trying to compete in rally GB.
The best bits are the seats which suit me very well and the head lights. If you get one, or any vauxhall, make sure it has the IntelliLux Pixel Matrix LED® headlights. A game changer when driving at night. Makes it seem like the day time and almost magical how it works
New Vauxhalls are looking very swish. I've got the new Astra on order, very excited!
Good luck, Vauxhall reliability is crap thanks to poor PSA engineering underneath
Really! Never had many problems in 40 years. No worse than any other mass production car.
Strange you mention astra, I thought it looks like a SUV MK1 astra.

@@waynelott8216 PSA comes pretty high in the reliability index these days. Maybe you’re stuck in the noughties?
Thanks Becca…. It seems a bit small for a guy of my size!
always in ♥️ with RJ
What’s the point of that big screen if it’s almost completely taken up with the temperature? The Vizor looks stuck on this old design as well. The Grandland isn’t great overall. The Citroen C5 Aircross is nicer
Always great to see and hear Rebecca's reviews. surprised that stellantis does not sell it in the states....they could use it instead of the fiat junk sold here under the jeep brand ..😤🙄
The Electric Jeep arriving next year will use the PSA CMP platform
There’s no way the gear box sounds like a metro fgs
Not exactly Vauxhall's new image of being the next level.
And I thought it was called Grandad...
We just had the Opel version with the 1.5L diesel of this for 2 days. It is terrible. Acceleration is non-existent, steering is to sensitive and it is prone to following ruts in the road/road crown. Comfort is marginal and the electronics are just a little off (especially the automatic wipers).
1:17 that smile is contagious!
I just think it's sad that GM is pretty much non-existent in Europe and the UK now.
Regularly top the sales charts in the UK with the Corsa...

Not GM though
@@bighands69 true. GM is dead. Long live Stelantis.
Vauxhall needs to fire the people doing it’s interiors - the exteriors are great
Exactly what I think, the interior has very small buttons (why use physical buttons for practicality if they are going to be small as ants), and everything is just gray and bland. It screams boring.
Its funny it looks like a kia
Sportage for me
A british car ❤
Seats are hard. not for me
The amount of pervs commenting on hear is disturbing
H-E-R
Yeah but she is shagable you got to admit it unless your gay I suppose
No thanks Rebecca and my reason is simple - it is yet another SUV and our roads are crammed with them as it is.
We are not going back to cars anytime soon.
Oh Rebecca 😍
I love you❤️
This women asnt a clue
H-A-S-N-'T
W-O-M-A-N because women is plural .
Wouldn't but any Grandland, just crap PSA underneath, dismal reliability, plus PSA can never supply parts for them as everything goes on back order
Can’t comment on parts availability but every PSA brand finished higher in JD power reliability survey than bmw, Mercedes, all VAG brands except Skoda, Nissan and Renault
Grandland is horrible.
Vauxhall, For when you have given up on life.
Same story with Toyota! Ask Jeremy Clarkson!
